after being on again-off again with social media for a full decade now, i have come to the conclusion that social media cannot be saved. i will be returning to personal media as best i can because to get on what used to be the wonderful world wide web is now sickening and exhausting.

any given site or app meant for the connection and updates of your inner circle has devolved pathetically into a graveyard of advertisements and trends. billions of people comparing and competing to see who can do the exact same thing better than the last. individuality and the pride in it has faded.

im ready to begin documenting my life and enjoying my time in the ways that i used to be able to. scrolling tumblr was always hard to stop once you got started, but it never left you feeling inadequate. if anything, you felt less alone because its easier to find a community on here without all the posturing and trying so hard to go viral.

facebook was for family and now its a hostile political fighting cage, instagram was supposed to be beautiful moments of your life in photos and now people curate their pages for a popularity contest. dont even get me started on tiktok. we've strayed too far from our roots, even in the language we use pertaining to social media has changed.

aesthetic: adj. giving or designed to give pleasure through beauty; of pleasing appearance

brand: noun. a particular identity or image regarded as an asset

yes, a brand still has aesthetic appeal but we can see how our curation used to be about appreciation not jus solely presentation.

mostly, this was a rant pertaining to my feelings and my life but join me in moving backwards in time this year, in just this aspect, if this resonates or if you enjoy any kind of plants, books, crafting, photography, adventures, the outdoors, learning, yearning, and growing.
