Suburban landscapes

Underground nuclear test sites and neon signs are beacons for unnerved, crowded, and confused minds. Between basins and peaks, the American soup settles, seeming to only be stirred on the outer edges of the pot. I’d go so far as to say it’s been cooking unevenly for far too long, so much so that it can’t be unintentional. I’d forgotten that will to look, actively. It’s been a well needed week. I’m smoking like a chimney and I have too many packages on their way. Thanks for the love. Go look at some more photographs.

Ieva moved to Reno, Nevada to begin her job at Tesla. It’s a lot more lonely here now. I’m really proud of her and cannot wait to visit. I hope she knows how much I love her. Photographically, I’ve been feeling stale for a while, so I started making photographs with new equipment again. Not quite sure how I feel about it.
I’ve been thinking quite a bit about ideas of American Individualism in opposition to American Collectivism (not my ideas or philosophies but filtered and interpreted through my understanding of them).
I haven’t felt like I’ve made something new in a while. Everything I’m making seems like re-hashed work. I feel like I want to break that wall down just a bit more than usual.
Way too many windows, not enough mirrors. I need to photograph more people for sure. Odds and ends from the previous post.

I’m extremely stressed today, I had to give a presentation on what influences me as an artist, and what influenced influenced me to peruse the arts. I was beyond anxious and floundered my words quite a bit, probably sounding like an absolute moron. Oh well. I’m going through a period of not enjoying my older work and modes of working, and that’s the more pressing matter. I just hope I can make friends within my MFA program, a lot of my fellow students seem wonderful. I hope I can make some new connections.
