some DMCĂ—Sanrio doodles.....
Please talk a bunch about Lucia, I am so down to hear it. She's such a cool, sweet character, and the Netflox trashfire did her so dirty.
Let's first establish that DMC2 is Lucia's game first and foremost. I know everyone loves Dante but Dante is more of a witness to Lucia's story than anything. Lucia is also the first playable female character in DMC2 with her own game. Once again a black woman paves the way! And yes Lucia is black and most likely Mediterranean black. (I know some people will disagree with me on where Vie de Marli is located but I'll explain on another post my views on the DMC world.)
But why is it important that Lucia is black? Because she doesn't fit into any stereotype that media often portrays black women as! Lucia is sweet, kind, smart, brave, silly, insecure, and strong. But none of these traits define her into a box, she's complex.
When Lucia first meets Dante she is hesitant but also playful (not sexually) by throwing a knife at a map behind him and hinting at that they will meet again soon. Lucia cares deeply for Matier and her home, making sure that the one she considers her mother was alright after their home was blown up by Arius. Of course she is smart and brave as most DMC protagonists are as they have to solve demonic puzzles, solve mysteries, and fight demons. You have to be brave to fight demons. And Lucia is especially brave as she was willing to face Arius by herself. In fact showed bravery several times as she was trying to stop Argosax from returning to the human world.
But her personal journey through all this is the cherry on top! Lucia finding out that she wasn't the biological daughter of Matier or any of the protectors but an artificial demon created by Arius. This made her scared and made her doubt herself and her actions thus far. I LOVE IT. Because she had to reckon with the fact that her life's foundation was flipped on its head. She confronted Matier, but Matier soothed her. Lucia tried to get Dante to kill her but Dante knew that Lucia was a human through and through because would a demon really do everything she had done so far? Would a demon care for their adopted mother or the village that raised them to the extent of putting their life on the line? No! That is a human! Lucia is a human! And she was willing to put her life on the line one more time after that!
Gods I love Lucia!
She gets to be the damsel and the warrior, the knight and the monster and it is just so damn good!
Her parallels to Nero as well oh my gods! Learning that you might not be who you thought you were and handling that. Protecting your family to the point of self sacrifice and self harm. Learning to accept yourself. And of course learning that your family kept secrets from you. Being sus of Dante as well lol. The angelic motifs both their devil forms have. Does it mean anything? No, but it makes me wish the two would interact.
In terms of gameplay, Lucia is far better to play than Dante. And she doesn't have as bad of bosses in her section as well. And she is so smooth to play especially with aerial combat. It's a shame she hasn't been in a game since. I love her combat style and think they could improve on it in a later game.
AND on top of all that, she's gorgeous! Look at her!
Lucia <3
It's been sitting on my drive for a while, should probably post it before June ends lmao

Devil may cry ladies!!! Got into dmc in the big 2026 (the games specifically) and i was soo positively surprised how they handled the women in the series. A classmate of mine was surprised I already wasn’t into it since it feels very much my vibe and honestly he was so right. These 3 were pretty fun to draw and I already plan to draw Kyrie and Nico but maybe later
How would you expand Lucia's abilities? Trish has her lightning, Vergil has his summoned swords and teleports, Nero has his Devil Bringer. What would you give Lucia to make her stand out?
I feel like this is more of a character combat identity question than a narrative one and so I might not have a satisfying answer. I'm actually really bad at character action games and I don't pay a lot of attention to abilities as a distinguishing factor.
I'd like for her to have sonic/sound-based abilities based on a headcanon that secretary devils can open up from the jaw all the way down that zig-zagging seam in their chests when in their devil form and emit sonic attacks.
I'd also like it if it was played up that she's a self-augmenting artificer. Internally generated magic does not actually appear to be Lucia's strong suit at all. Her non-DT kit is much more akin to Lady's than anybody else's. However, she does have access to magical items which she can and does use to augment her abilities. (I consider Dante's use of the amulet/hearts system one of many messy contrivances built into the bones of what dmc2 was.)
In the dmc world it could make her the equivalent of bangin' combat blue mage, but because dmc games are very linear, I don't think that archetype is suited to actual play.
(my simple baby answer is that she should just be fast as hell, give her some roller blades and/or some hype ass boots that look like the shit Clare Claymore was doing to her legs during the end of the silver lion encounter and just let her loose)
WHICH ONE OF YOU WAS GONNA TELL ME THEY DID LUCIA DIRTIER THAN I THOUGHT THEY DID IN THE ANIME?
I had to find out about this through a YouTube short.
So let me get this straight-
She was whitewashed in her brief cameo of season 1, and her story was completely taken out of what should have been her season. That’s what I knew the whole time. I didn’t think she was in season 2 at all until I saw this.
Apparently this right here was her??? And they fucked up by putting the wrong symbol on her arm so I didn’t know it was her!
Lucia’s symbol should be the Greek letter “Chi” and this right here is “Psi”
So the list of ways Adi has wronged Lucia grows-
•whitewashed her
•essentially erased her from a story that should have at least included her
•couldn’t even bother to put the right mark on her arm
•only gave her back her original skin color AFTER making her Arius’s minion. (Which I don’t like the connotations of that AT ALL)
•Making her Arius’s minion is the EXACT OPPOSITE OF HER GODDAMN STORY. WHAT WAS THE POINT!? This is blatant disrespect to her character. She despises that man.
“Be grateful for any content at all.” “It doesn’t ruin the characters!” “It’s not that bad!”
BULL. SHIT.
Adi doesn’t care about Devil May Cry, and if this isn’t proof of it I don’t know what is. He wanted to be the hero of what he admitted he thought was a dead fandom, and failed to show any sort of respect to its story or characters.
People dog on us for “wanting an exact copy of the games” when I’m sure most of us didn’t. I’m not 100% sure I would have even watched it as soon as I did season 1 if it was because I already knew what would happen, but I’d take an exact copy over this disrespectful slop.
He could have gone about this a million different ways without making it an exact copy of the games, and still do right by the story and the fandom.
