On her favourite cloud watching spot, Dyiana sighed. She was nineteen now. Time to leave the nest. She was more than ready. She had got everything she needed, earned the money she needed, learnt everything she could about medicine and how to drive and maintain her own ship so she could travel as far as she wanted. She was all ready to leave.. Except.. She was having some doubts and worries.

"Having some second thoughts?" A fimiliar voiced asked from behind her, causing her to turn, seeing Cindian walking up to her. "Dad.." She watched him come up beside her, chuckling as he ruffled her head.

"Don't worry, everyone has trouble leaving home. But you’re a good kid with a good head on your shoulders. You'll be fine." Cindian assured her.

"Thanks dad. It just.. kinda scares me what I'll find out there.." "It can be scary, but as long as you don't go poking your nose in places you shouldn't, I reckon you'll be fine." A small pause followed, then he added. "And you don't have to worry about running into your other family. That will be fine too." That caused Diyana to start a little.

"I'm not worried. I'm not leaving to find them, only to further my studies." "You say that, but you are worried about it. You curl your tail up when you get worried, and even now, your tail is curled." Diyana scrunched her muzzle up and glared at her tail, forcing it to straighten. That tail was the bane of her existence..

"If you're so not bothered about finding your family, you wouldn't be wearing the earring."

Diyana reached up to fiddle with the earring she was given. The earring was a - tradition, she was told. An identical earring was worn by a family, until the children were old enough to leave and start their own families, where they get their own earrings. Her birth mother had given the earring at the same time she given her away, to let her know she still loved her and was part of her family, no matter what.

"Well... it's not a priority.. but I guess it would be nice to know it they've stopped fighting.. Or alive for that matter."

Cindian just chucked. "A bit pessimistic there. I'm sure they've just gone their own ways." Diyana didn’t say anything. She didn't think it was likely, since after the group her mother left, the rest of her kind followed after... And the wreckage of the city left behind wasn’t encouraging.

"Still, even if I find them, I'll always consider you my family." "Why are you acting like you have to choose?" Cindian asked, placing a hand on her shoulder and pointed to her second earring. "You wear the earring we made you too. That's a symbol of your family here." He then took her hands, smiling reassuringly.
