I’m gonna send it here cause I’m embarrassed it’s so simple and maybe not even the correct read. Hatice is the complete inverse of Hürrem. Hatice was brought up in the court, showered in wealth and protected from the outside world. Hürrem, while she had a peaceful life outside, she was enslaved and brought into it.
Hatice saw everything she lived was a huge lie and trying to reconcile that destroyed her. It wasn’t just the cheating husband or other specifics, individually, but seeing it all clearly. The veil lifted and the horrors made clear. But sunk cost fallacy and there was no mental or physical escape.
Hürrem on the other hand who was from without, only grew more entrenched and more invested in the system as things went on. The horrors only ironically strengthening her dedication to very institution that brought her nothing but misery. Yes, she had her children to worry about and herself, but she also bought into the lie.
I hope any of that made sense, it’s hard for me to verbalize it.
No worries at all! This is a completely judgement free zone. I'd considered them as parallels before but not as the inverse of each other. That is an interesting take and I think it works honestly.
I definitely agree that Hatice relies on believing a fantasy or else her entire worldview falls apart. Meanwhile Hürrem becomes more and more resolved because if she loses she loses everything. And especially later in the show everything that she goes through highlights more and more how this is the case.
Ok so we finished season two of Yellow Jackets. I’m pretty good with the ending in general except for it being Misty, she didn’t need to have accidentally kill her best friend 😭😭😭 Jeff had us cackling he’s such a little guy and loves his wife so much. Now I have to sit with it for a while and digest it. Who is your favorite character?
Jeff is genuinely a fun character to watch. And the whole thing with Misty and Natalie is definitely A Lot. My favourite character has to be Natalie in both timelines. Given how she is one of the most reasonable and empathetic of the girls. She's such a compelling character and I have a lot of feelings about her.
