Get to know me!
Hello Friends,
My name is Nyla Johnay Conaway and I want to welcome you to my blog! I will share some fast facts about myself, so get ready!
Preferred Name: I typically go by Nyla, but if you want to make me feel special you can call me Nyla Johnay or NyCon. Johnay is my middle name; I have been trying very hard to use it more often because I feel like it gets ignored. My second nickname NyCon is a combo of my first and last names and it also is a play on the word icon.
Pronouns: she/her/hers
Hometown: New Haven, CT (clap it up, the home of lollipops, hamburgers, and me of course)!
Major: I have not declared my major yet, but I am intending on majoring in Africana Studies, possibly minoring in Psychology, and doing a concentration in Community Engagement and Social Change.
Fun Fact: I write with my left hand, but I do most other things with my right hand.
Things we can chat about: Honestly anything, but if you want ~super specialized info~ ask me about Africana Studies, playing sports in college (especially track and field), caring for your natural hair while living in a dorm, fashion, and the AEMES scholars or mentoring program
Now onto some bloggy things, this blog is called Nyla in Noho and the name was created with some help from our lovely blog manager Aneliz. There was also some inspo from the show Emily in Paris, we can talk about this in another post. I like how the N’s are matchy-matchy and I think it flows well. I do not do ~english~, but from some searching online I believe that this ~stylistic device~ is called consonance. Please do not quote me on that and if I am wrong, please correct me. I will try to not be embarrassed.
That is all for now loves, we will chat later. Tootles.

What defines a hero?
As defined by Oxford Languages, a hero is “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities”. However, in mythology and folklore, another definition of hero emerges, again defined by Oxford Languages as “a person of superhuman qualities and often semi defining origin, in particular one whose exploits were subject of Ancient Greek myths”.
So: Why is there a difference in definition?
As society expands and modernizes, people’s view on things often change. Something that was socially acceptable before is now a crime, but then again, there are old traditions that are lost to time. An example can be found in Ancient Greek traditions where even if your enemy was sleeping under your roof, you could not harm them. In theory, that principle remains today but under the umbrella term of murder, but, people still have the liberty to do it under their own roof without getting attacked by the gods from breaking the laws of hospitality.
That sounds really bad.. wait..
Never mind that, I hope what I’m trying to convey in understandable.
Yet, even if there is a difference in the definitions, all heroes go through the same cycle, some a little easy to detect than others. This cycle was first defined by Joseph Campbell, author of The Hero with a Thousand faces.
In simple terms, the cycle is as follows :
Good guys
I haven’t posted about Legion in a while as I was on trips for the ending of last season and beginning of this so I wasn’t watching it live. It’s always harder for me to react when I binge something. It was especially hard with this one as I wasn’t sure what to think.
On one hand we saw David cross a moral boundary that made it hard to root for him. Even if I could understand how he could justify this - from his point of view the evil being who ruined his life had brainwashed his love and this was nothing more than when he took that delusion from their minds and destroyed it. How they could turn on him to that. But this time Syd was convinced not brainwashed. This time he did the wrong thing. Like Trish he is confronted with his deeds. He is the bad guy and he only gets worse this season.
He creates a cult around himself to have bodies that would die protecting him. he keeps them attached by drugs. He kills anyone in his way indiscriminately. All the while telling himself he’s a good person and deserves love. Even the voices in his head know this is delusion.
Sill, it was also hard to root for Division 3 people too. The way they are all so certain he’ll destroy the world in the future and must be stopped that they let a monster who created this problem run free. They let man who made David who he become by taking away everyone he loved ones by killing and manipulating people just go with no repercussions. David might’ve enjoy that use of his powers that puffed all these soldiers but Farouk was ultimately one pulling the trigger. And that’s even without what he did to Oliver and Melanie. I half suspected he was manipulating Division 3 people and was going to take over Charles in the end.
His change of heart is not very well shown. Yes, he kept saying he cares about David but at the same time he murdered his sister, tortured his friends and was ultimately responsible for his delusions of grandeur. His main advice almost to the end was that they are like gods making their own rules and other, lesser people were just a hindrance. When did he change into live and let live kind of guy?
But this season was about a chance of second, better life. Of another try that lets you make better choices. Maybe he will free all these mind trapped inside other skulls. And Amy and Lenny are never going to meet him. Oliver and Melanie are going to be fine.
I suppose maybe after everything else failed this season. After trying to make David respond to his proclamations or making him do what he wanted and failing. After seeing David who would rather destroy the world and himself than have anything to do with him. I suppose that might’ve been enough to try choosing another way. At least for now.
