it  was  no  SURPRISE  that  james  was  used  to  photographers,  he'd  been  a  part  of  the  sport  and  the  world  surrounding  it  for  long  enough,  knew  the  power  of  a  camera  lens,  how  it  could  capture  the  most  VULNERABLE  moments  -  and  that  those  images  would  swiftly  be  lapped  up  by  the  hungry  vultures  of  the  media  to  sell  whatever  story  they  wanted  to  spin.  it  wasn't  the  fault  of  the  photographer,  they  were  just  doing  their  job,  but  he  had  a  lot  more  FAITH  in  the  team  photographer  to  keep  certain  images  well  out  of  the  media's  hands. ❛   do  you  not  ever  get  BORED  of  staring  at  my  face  through  that  thing  ??   ❜   james  questioned  amused,  looking  over  at  madison  .  .  .  or  more  the  lens  of  her  camera.  he  had  cooped  himself  up  in  the  mercedes  motorhome,  a  brief  moment  of  silent  relaxation  before  the  race  weekend  fully  got  underway.

the  bar  hums  with  life  and  he  lingers  outside,   balancing on the edge of a curb,   breathing  in  the  crisp,   night  air  as  he  daydreams  about  the  comforting  silence  of  home.   spread  across  the  couch  with  his  headphones  on.   lost  in  a  song.   conrad  glances  around  at  his  surroundings  and  recognizes  one  of  the  venue's performers,  the  sounds  of  people  drifting  through  their  farewells  behind  her.   to  capture  a  crowd  …    it’s  a  lifestyle  he  has  never  considered  for  himself.   far  too  bright.    “   you  ever  get  tired  of  having  all  those  eyes  on  you ?   ”  

claudia  was  the  LAST  PERSON  oliver  expected  to  provide  him  with  any  comfort,  as  he  saw  his  lead  fall  away,  his  car  finding  barrier's  time  and  time  again,  and  slowly  he  found  himself  disappearing,  behind  two  names  that  stepped  into  the  limelight  naturally  while  he  stood  far  behind.  he  remained  composed  before  the  camera's,  the  media  making  the  assumption  that  nothing  could  shake  him,  but  behind  the  scenes  he  was  CRACKING  in  every  direction,  like  an  outsider  staring  at  what  could  have  been  in  any  and  every  direction  that  he  looked. her  words  should  have  comforted  him,  but  they  only  caused  a  weak  and  sad  smile  to  find  him,  his  heavy  eyes  looking  up  at  her  from  his  position  on  the  floor,  a  place  he  just  wanted  to  curl  up  and  be  left  to  DROWN. ❛   how  can  you  say  that  to  me  after  what  i  did  .  .  .  you  should  be  out  there,  celebrating  with  HIM,  enjoying  your  new  life  .  .  .  not  here  with  someone  like  me.   ❜ even  now  when  he  looked  at  her  it  was  a  return  to  old  memories  -  memories  on  how  nervous  and  awkward  he  was  around  this  little  girl,  before  he  carefully  took  her  smaller  hand  in  his  own,  taking  her  on  a  tour  of  his  kart.  he  took  her  on  a  slow  lap  around  and  held  her  close,  soon  to  be  SCOLDED  by  his  dad  for  doing  it  and  he  blushed  embarrassed  before  declaring  he  was  being  a  gentleman.  that  same  girl  he  SWORE  he  could  hear  over  the  sounds  of  everything  on  track,  cheering  for  him  as  he  came  to  a  win,  his  lucky  star,  and  that  nickname  stuck  for  years. the  little  boy  grew  into  a  teenager  that  held  out  a  promise  ring  with  the  nerves  he  had  on  their  first  meeting,  but  with  it  held  the  idea  that  he  would  be  hers  FOREVER  .  .  .  until  he  wasn't  now,  all  those  many  years  later. ❛   i  really  fucked  up  .  .  .  i  fucked  everything  up,  thinking  i  needed  to  focus,  thing  what  we  had  was  a  distraction,  and  now  seeing  you  HAPPY  .  .  .  i  should  be  glad  you  have  someone,  glad  you're  loved,  but  i  never  stopped  loving  you,  and  i  only  have  myself  to  blame.   ❜
