A rare IRL picture of me but attending Distant Worlds in my city tonight and I'm super excited
shoutout to the lady who also arrived 2.5 hours early for the Distant Worlds concert, who told me she'd been playing since Final Fantasy 1 and at 6 years old she was trying to beat the game with as low a level as possible and replaying it with all different parties--she owns irl versions of nearly all the FF8 Triple Triad cards and she had her original FF1 cartridge and game manual with her to be autographed by Nobuo Uematsu at the VIP meet and greet.
She told me she would absolutely DIE if Sakaguchi were there as well as Uematsu, that it would be her dream to meet them both, and was feverishly talking about how they had recently posted photos together on social media so MAYBE they would both appear. She said over and over again to the people nearby that she would die if they appeared together. We were wishing her good luck and that she would survive the concert.
My seat wasn't anywhere near hers, but I wish I had seen her reaction when they announced Sakaguchi was in attendance. I'm so happy for her and I hope she's all right now.
A Thank You to the Final Fantasy XIV Devs.
I've played FFXIV since 2013. I bought my PS3 and PS4 just for FFXIV. It's been a constant in my life since then. For better and for worst. I also met the love of my life through Final Fantasy XIV back in Heavensward. I reached out to a random FC recruitment listing in the PF. They wanted members and I have a solo fc so I didn't want to join but I love helping people with stuff and so I offered to help them with content and stuff. The FC leader introduced me to the officers, his partner and his bestie, and said bestie and I have been together now for a long time! We became friends quickly, bonded over our love of Final Fantasy and other games, and before I knew it we were together and didn't wanna be apart.
I think a lot about how I would have never met him in the day to day. We're from different parts of the country and I feel so lucky to have met him.
It is because of FFXIV that I was able to meet him.
When Stormblood released we played early access weekend together as a couple, and since then we've done the same for every expansion. We always take early access weekend to enjoy together.
Life has had many ups and downs since then, I've been dealing with health issues for six years now and some times it feels like I'm just waiting for life to start again. But through everything, he's there, constant, reassuring. I am not religious. But I feel so blessed!
Now Stormblood is my least favorite expansion story wise, but it has so many great moments in it, and one of them is arriving in the Lochs and doing the instance solo instance with Songs of Salt and Suffering playing in the BG. It's a high point in the game for me, and I fondly remember doing the story with my sweet heart and us getting to the Lochs and doing the story while we chatted via Discord, him on his PC, me on my PS4. Songs of Salt and Suffering is still one of my favorite FFXIV songs. And tonight they played it at the Distant Worlds concert, and I got to be there to hear it live with my best friend and love of my life holding my hand the whole time. I get lost in sadness a lot. Chronic illness makes it feel like I'm waiting to die and not living sometimes, but I am so grateful that despite me feeling like I'm falling apart, I have someone that loves me and cares for me, and makes me smile and feel cherished ever day.
And though there is a lot about XIV that disappoints me sometimes, I really do owe a lot to it.
So a big thank you to SE, and the FFXIV devs. I know they'll probably never see this. But I am so thankful. But a SPECIAL thank you to Soken and Arnie Roth. Arnie said Soken was with them last week in Canada and that Soken personally picked out the song list for this round of Distant World, and I am so thankful to him, because it was such a treat to get to hear one of my favorite songs from the first expansion I played throught with the love of my life.
Distant worlds - First of all - Amazing. If you can and you love Final Fantasy, go. It's good mix. I knew nothing of FFXVI and enjoyed those songs too. The videos are so full of spoilers... so be warned. FFXVI fans have got energy. One guy somewhere in the back screamed "LET'S GO!" when were just about to start that section. You'd think it would be FFVII fans, but no I think the FFXVI are vocal ones now. Got to see Masayoshi Soken, Amanda Achen and Arnie Roth. There is no zoom on my photos. It was a little too close as my neck is paying for it today. Really lovely performance. Did the VIP thing to get the autographs, there is also a photo, which I am always like ummm no thank you... Also the part where you have to talk to people... I suck at, not that I am rude, I am just nervous and kinda switch into this character I play and I'm always like "WHY IS IT YOU THAT COMES OUT AND NOT ME?" "WHY CAN'T I JUST BE MYSELF??" The two dudes I talked to in line were cool. They got me pumped for FFXVI. We talked about all the Final Fantasies. Even stranger in paradise. I did surprise them that Final Fantasy was in fact my first Final Fantasy. The two ladies I made the mistake of talking too were mean girls and said mean things about people's home made costumes. Like bro, that girl made that shit, be nice, sewing shit is hard. Biggest annoyance. I got there at 650pm, got in at just before 7, finished getting my wrist band at like 710, and the merch line was closed because it was at capacity. So I could not buy shit. I had planned to buy a lot of shit because no custom fees or shipping. I was hoping to get something from Dawntrail or FFXV. I wish that concerts would send you a list that you can pre-order, pay, and then pick up all it at coat check. I brought that endwalker cover from home. My tease: Nothing surprises new Final Fantasy Symphony goers than the one winged angel. This was my first distant worlds, but all videogames live performances dating back to like 2006 to as late as 2012, always had that as the secret song. As had the FF7 symphony. But yeah, people lose their shit and it's super cute. I love how happy they get. We did get to sing along so that was cute and fun way to switch it up.
My surprise - I teared up during Battle of the Four fiends from FFIV - the part when Rydia comes to save our asses. Also, are orchestra people not use to full houses? Because the FF7 one, the Joe Hisaishi one, and this one, they at times seemed so surprised at our joy and reactions. Even a couple taking pictures of the crowd. Admittedly, I don't go to the symphony, I can't see the orchestra at the ballet or the opera.
