So much for being sneaky.
Up until that day, Kovu had been doing a fairly good job of going between the outlands and the Pride Lands without being caught. How his mother had continually failed to notice was a bit beyond him, but Kovu imagined she was a bit preoccupied as of late. The same could apply to Nuka. Either that or, the more likely conclusion there, was that his older brother just didnât care. The point remained that Kovu had been able to sneak about and see what Kiara had been up to from a safe distance. However, heâd slipped up. That day, Kovu had felt confident. He hadnât needed to go in with a mud disguise, he thought, and that was where heâd made his mistake. As he emerged from the tall grass, his eyes locked with those of someone he knew shouldnât see him.
In a heartbeat, Kovu tried to sneak back into the grass as though nothing had happened. He scrambled backward, eyes wide the whole while, and he managed to stumble a bit. This was the queen of the Pride Lands he was about to deal with. While Nala did seem a fair bit more lenient than Simba, at least in Kovuâs memory, he still knew that she might not be pleased to see him.
âWait, wait,â Kovu said. His voice shook despite his best efforts to keep it even. Evidently, the confidence he had come in with had vanished quite quickly.
âBefore you say anything, Iâm not here because my mother sent me. I-I just wanted to see Kiara...âÂ
As easy as it would have been to lie, Kovu didnât want to chance anything. Being transparent may have been the better option in this particular situation.
