Dangerous Secrets Teaser Tuesday #9 - The Tree!
So I was actually going to post a video of a final copy of Dangerous Secrets today, but it hasnāt arrived yet! Grr! I did post a pic over on Twitter of my librarian friendās copy - sometimes we authors are the last to get ours! But IĀ didnāt want to waste an entire Teaser Tuesday on a single pic so weāll save this for next week and hopefully by then I can give you an in-depth look at the actual book!
In the meantime, today I want to discuss Iduna and Agnarrās tree. Youāve seen a bit of it in Frozen 2 when Elsa watches the now infamous exchange,Ā āWhat are you reading, your majesty?ā and Agnarr replies,Ā āSome new Danish author!ā Of course we know, from a closer look, it was the Little Mermaid, another Hans Christian Andersen tale. Fun fact - I actually wanted him reading The Snow Queen in my scene (hey, it didnāt have to be the same day!)Ā and had all these funny jokes about it, but I got overruled. Too on-the-nose, I guess! Maybe someday I can share that outtake though!Ā
But back to the tree. From the very first notes I received from the film team and my editor, they talked about a tree - a special tree in which Iduna and Agnarr spent time together. At first I imagined this tree out in the woods somewhere, but they already had something in mind - a tree in the Arendelle castle courtyard itself.Ā
They even had an idea, pulled from a visual from the film dev team to share with me. This was one of the first pictures they sent me when I took on the assignment.Ā
If you zoom in you can see Iduna is giving Agnarr a present, which is super cute! This never made it into the final book, but it would be a great prompt for some fan fiction, no?Ā
That said, the tree does play prominently in the book. Agnarr likes to sit under it and read,Ā but Iduna, being much more outdoorsy, prefers to climb it and hang out in its branches. It becomes the perfect hiding spot for the two of them when they want to be alone. (Well, that, and a certain other room you might have heard about...) And it sets the stage for a couple of major events in the book. One in particular that made me cry when writing it.Ā
Can you believe itās only 3 weeks till the bookās release? Itās getting soooo close!
