Author's note: Hiii⊠Iâm not dead yet. Life has just been really hectic and everything. Iâm hopefully gonna get back into writing Disney villains (might branch out into Star Wars villains more on that later) so hope you enjoy.
Tw: Ernestoâs a loser ahh bish
âAnd the world is mi famillia!â The screen went black as the warm baritone was cut off in the middle of the song. It was 1942. Ernesto De La Cruz was at the peak of his career. The damnable bastard. Made large promises and even larger holes in your family. You remember being happy with him. That was a long time ago, though.
âMi Vida, you truly hold the key to my heart and are my world.â He whispered once upon a time on your wedding night. His smile was so lucid in your mind. It felt like your wedding night all over again. It was incandescent, lighting up your whole world. You had loved him once. You thought he had felt the same way. Evidently not. One day, Ernesto left a note. It flipped your world entirely.
âIâm going off to travel the world and spread music everywhere, mi alama. I wonât be home for a long while. Be safe.
-Love, Ernesto"
You cried for hours. You absolutely sobbed baby tears on the floor. Then you went to your best friend Imeldaâs home. Her husband, HĂ©ctor, had left with Ernesto. The only difference? HĂ©ctor had told Imelda he was going. They had a long goodbye, and their daughter got to say bye-bye to her papa.
Then, HĂ©ctor missed his daughterâs 5th birthday. Coco was confused. Not so much as a letter came from her Papa. Imelda was enraged at both of your husbands! How dare they abandon their families?! That was absolutely disgusting to her. She would never accept it. She didnât waste tears like you, however. She started a business. Shoe making. You two had been learning together from an older man in the plaza. You two had done it as a way to pass the time and spend time together. Who knew youâd start a successful business due to it?
Imelda was strongly of the opinion that music ruined your family. But shoes? Would put it together. Youâd both had daughters at this point. Your little girl was the spitting image of your husband. She had his eyes, his jaw, and his thick hair. She was an absolute sweetheart, though. Ernesto had made a name for himself by this point. Making a shit ton of money.
Your daughter held his last name, though. Every time he appeared in the paper, she would point and say, "Papa!" She had clearly drawn the connection in appearance and last name. You just smiled and nodded. How could you lie to her? She was so proud of her papa too. Like he held the key to the universe, as she got older, though, she became more and more spiteful to him. How could he leave her?! How could he leave you?! Every time she saw him in the paper, she would lose a spark in her eye. She knew what he did. She had always been clever.
She held true to this anger and spite for many years. All the way till now. Your daughter, once so small, happy, cheerful, and funny in that way only toddlers were, was a grown woman. She was gorgeous, intelligent, quick-witted, and kind. She was also a musician to boot! She was incredible on the guitar and could play (5 times better, in your correct opinion) as well as your husband. You were so proud of your little girl! You two were currently out. With the war blazing, you were in shock that anywhere with a TV (a rare commodity) would be playing a concert of Ernestoâs!
âMamĂĄ?â Your daughter looked at you quizzically.
âYes, my love?â
âWhy doesn't the public know about us? Why didn't you ever divorce him? Or make a fuss when he left?â You froze. That was currently⊠Wow, that wasnât what you were expecting on a Saturday.
âHe wanted the spotlight. I did not. Once he left, I thought about it, my love; I really did. But he rose so quickly! Plus he made so much money. I couldn't afford a lawyer half as good as one of his.â You replied with sadness. In truth, you also still loved him. You still did! Ernesto was impossible to get out of one's head! He was very charming.
âSo you didn't want him to know about me in divorce proceedings?â She asked. That had also been a factor. You had no idea what type of people Ernesto made friends with as a big shot! For all you knew they did drugs and other things! You didn't want your daughter to become vitiated!
âI did not, baby. I didn't know who your PapĂĄ was friends with. So I made sure to keep you safe however I could.â You stared at the TV as it came back on. Ernesto stood under a bell as ballet folklĂłrico dancers finished their set. They were absolutely beautiful, and your daughter was enraptured by their movement. You grinned at her. Taking your eyes off the screen.
âYou like them, huh?â You heard the bell ring and your daughter gasped in horror. Confused, you looked back. Only to find a bell where your husband once stood. You took a minute to gasp. Was he⊠was Ernesto? Was your Ernesto truly gone?
âMama⊠what⊠how⊠is he?â Your daughter stared at the screen. Her brain, racing to catch up with what happened to her papĂĄ. You yourself had no words. In your heart, you knew. He was gone.
âHoney, let's go home. It might be better to eat at home tonight.â You slowly guided her away. Luckily the walk home should be pretty safe. You guided your daughter through the busy streets.
There was yelling and shouting everywhere at once. Something felt off. You quicken your pace. A few rough-looking boys came out from the alley and began yelling at another group. It became very clear to you. This was going to become a shoot-out. You began running with your daughter. Right as shots crackled in the air. Screams followed suit. You pushed faster, you attempted to dig your legs harder. Then, it hit you. You heard an anguished cry. Then. Nothing.
