I've noticed that a lot of my friends of color seem to think that if they could "just" be CEOs of companies or be in positions of power that things will somehow be better and we can dismantle this oppressive system.

But that's not how White Narcissism works. Having more Beyonces or Obamas isn't going to destroy it, it just turns them into "exceptions" for people of color to strive towards while white narcissists are actively restricting those pathways.

Because White Narcissism requires an underclass.

When there are no people of color around, white hierarchy shifts and adapts. Fat, ugly, disabled, queer, and poor whites stay on the bottom, becoming the "servants" to the "better whites." It's so granular that it even shows up in small friend group dynamics: ie, the "fat" friend like Monica from Friends or Gretchen from Mean Girls.

Even if White Narcissists were to get their way and have a wholly white society (which will never happen*, see below for what would actually happen), most of the people who advocate for it would become/stay as the working class, serving as the very people they despise right now. We can see it in the rich vs working class dynamic already, a byproduct of the people who really spread and enforce WASP culture.

*But what is more likely to happen is that white narcissists will subjugate the "others" they view as lesser than, cuz what they really want is a return to open slavery. They want to openly own people again instead of hiding it behind immigration status or underpaid employees. Remember how worker's rights advocates say that companies would pay you nothing if they could? Yeah, they aren't exaggerating.
