discord server mods: the “neopronouns” role is not as progressive as you think. its only half a step above having “he/him,” “she/her,” “they/them,” and “ask for pronouns,” which is only half a step above having just those first three. (which, admittedly, is a number of steps above having just those first two.) it at least acknowledges neopronouns, but people still have to ask about the persons pronouns.
“but they can just put their pronouns in their nickname!!”
they can, but thats really alienating. why is it alienating, you ask? well, the people who use she, he, or they sets dont have to put their pronouns in their nickname.
“whats the problem with having to put ones pronouns in ones nickname when others dont have to?”
well, aside from the fact that they have to do something that others dont (when it would be easily avoided), they have to do something that makes them immediately clocked as “weird” by everybody. and some people are fine with that! but you cannot assume that everyone is.
“but i cant add roles for every set of neopronouns!”
we arent asking you to! were asking you to add a role for every set of neopronouns used by somebody in your server when they ask for them.
“but what if i run out of role space?”
then you can remove all the pronoun roles and have everybody put their pronouns in their name.
“but why cant i leave the ‘he/him,’ ‘she/her,’ and ‘they/them’ roles??”
like i said at the beginning of this post, that makes us feel really alienated. if you need clarification... read this post again. please.
“okay, i understand why the ‘neopronouns’ role is insufficient now. but i have a bot to assign roles!”
okay, then add each new pronoun role to the bot as you add it to the server.
“but my bot is hard to do that with.”
then use a different bot! if only part of the server can use the bot, then, no offense? the bot isnt right for the server.
