The way animals treat disabled animals honestly kills me.
I have four cats. One of them evil so she stays upstairs in a room with my brother. (She's not actually evil she just has some behavioral issues)
The other three hang out downstairs, unless I'm asleep, where I take my cat with me.
One of them is disabled. Queso has brain damage from abuse he faced in his previous home as a kitten. He has trouble tracking things, his behaviors are off, he tilts his head to eat/drink, and his sense of balance is horrible. He's happy and healthy despite it all, and is a little love bug.
The evil cat loves him. Loves him to death, he's the only one routinely allowed in her room. The other two are constantly accommodating him, and he does the same for them. My cat doesn't like to wrestle, but they play chase every day just ripping through the house. His attention span isn't the greatest sometimes and she either gets his attention again or is like ok! We are done! The other cat has been a motherly figure to him, and lets him suckle on his ears because Queso never had an actual mother figure wean him. Gus also takes care of a lot of Quesos grooming because queso isn't the best at it. They all show each other so much care, and while they can tell he's disabled, they don't care. They love him and treat him as an equal. They care so much about him and you can see it in every interaction.
Cats seem to have this accommodation thing down, I really wish people could take notes from animals like this. We can love our disabled siblings and treat them like equals.
If cats can be this caring towards their disabled, I can only imagine how caring people could be if they tried.
