Popular crime writer Deon Meyer and photographer Adriaan Oosthuizen took on some of the country’s most beautiful dirt roads for this adventure motorbiking route guide. New horizons beckon around each bend and the word “adventure” takes on a new meaning as they cross the country.

Dirt Busters offers over 30 routes for experienced riders and novices who love the open road. Deon not only describes the scenery riders can expect, but weaves a story around each route in which he talks about the experiences they had, the interesting characters they met along the way and some of the challenges dirt roads riders can expect. The routes are illustrated with colourful maps and striking landscape photos. Each one offers something different to discover: a breathtaking pass, a meandering river, lovely old farm buildings, a waterfall or a deserted stretch in the Karoo with not a soul in sight.

The second part of the book contains a practical riding guide aimed at helping novices gain the necessary confidence to ride on dirt roads. In this part Deon explains the theory behind motorbiking. He offers several handy tips, for instance how not to fall over in a very sandy road, how to navigate dongas and streams, and how to avoid accidents in general. There is even advice on which tyres to buy and what protective clothing riders should wear.

Deon's website also offers downloadable GPS route files.  The second half of the book really makes it unique too with all the practical advice given for adventure riding in South Africa.
