I'm really happy she's standing up for herself.
At first, I was uncomfortable when I saw her call out posts, because I thought to myself that she would only bring more trouble to herself but then I realized that I thought that because society had taught Black women to never make waves.
We can never stand up for ourselves and are expected to just take it. This is the same thing at work, we can't make any waves, we have to smile through it or stay impassive even when faced with the most disrepectful colleagues. I would never speak up, because then we are seen as the problem, not them: we're overreacting, "it was just a joke" "it's just not that deep" "ugh nobody can say anything anymore".
Another thing is, we're not allowed to make mistakes or to get something wrong.
You'd think Letitia was a criminal or something with the way people are reacting to this day...but she posted a problematic video and tweets and then never talked about it again. She stayed silent for 2 years and did her thing, but the critics and threatw and attacks kept coming and she did say anything.
Why would she have to go through something her White counterparts don't have to?
Why does she just have to accept the disrepect for years when the fans are always begging for forgiveness for the White actors, or preaching to "separate the art from the artist" or whatever.
What's happening to Letitia Wright is not ok. It doesn't matter what you think about her or if you like her or not....This is not ok.
It's not ok to harrass and target and a Black Actress and to put her past actions on the same level as assault and rape.
And I see the people who are very vocal in defending problematic White Marvel actors but who chose to stay silent now.
