Exes
Dr. Henry Loomis (Jurassic World Rebirth) x Fem!Reader
Description: You and Henry are exes who’ve been invited to the same mission.
Word Count: 3k
Warnings: TONS of sexual tension, (sexy)kisses
The moment you set foot into this mission, you saw him.
Dr. Henry Loomis.
You’re ex-boyfriend.
The man who broke up with you a few months prior due to his fear of not only losing his museum, but losing you.
As your eyes met. Your heart dropped. It had been months, and you’d never expected to see him after everything.
The way he looked at you never changed. His pupils were slightly larger, and he always had a look of admiration. Surprise, of course, but admiration. Even in the circumstances.
You were on your final dive to collect the last bit of DNA needed from the Quetzalcoatlus. The group, you included, started to hike up the steep climb so that eventually you could make the climb down into the nest for the objective.
Through this entire mission, you and Henry didn’t speak. Maybe once in a while, you would say a few words, just as a way to communicate throughout the mission. But when your mouths didn’t say a single word, your eyes spoke thousands.
Zora, Duncan, and LeClerc saw the obvious tensions between the two of you. The way you, too, would so obviously try to pretend like you didn’t care, try to keep a keen distance away from each other, and keep your eyes to yourselves.
But of course. They didn’t see that. You still loved each other, and everyone else could see it. The tension was palpable and thick enough to cut with a knife.
LeClerc spoke as they walked, turning his head to Duncan with a slight smirk on his face as I nudged his head towards the two of you, apart.
“So them two huh? They're gonna dance around each other all day or?"
He just raised a brow before Duncan looked back at the two of you.
"My friend...I'll bet you fifty bucks, by the end of this mission, they'll be all over each other."
As LeClerc listened to his offer, he just laughed. "Do you even have that much to your name?"
His friend just scoffed and fully admitted his fate before he burst out laughing. "No."
As you walked. You walked with concentration. Mainly on getting the mission over, and to really keep to yourself.
As you paced, Zora caught up and started to pace beside you.
"Ok, speedy! Is this your anticipation to get home or....?"
You lifted your head as she walked next to you. You honestly didn't even notice she was there until she started talking.
"Or?" You questioned as you watched her expression slightly change.
"You and Henry, silly. What's that all about? Not that it's really any of my business or anything."
Immediately, your eyes piqued some interest. Was the past between you and Henry really that obvious??
"I'm not sure what you mean." You knew. You totally knew. You were tense, almost erratic in the way you moved.
She just laughed as she watched you. She could read you like an open book. "Oh, you surely know. The tension between you two is thick enough to break."
You just scoffed playfully and sighed. "Damn. Is it really that obvious...?" Your body language and eventually your words deceived you as you just flat-out admitted something you couldn't really fight for.
"Oh, it's obvious." Zora teased as she gently bumped your shoulder. "So? What's stopping you from having a little thing with the Doctor, huh? You two seem close, yet so distant."
You just gave her a look that spoke a thousand words, before you admitted what's been eating at you throughout the mission. "He's my Ex. That's probably why we seem close." Before she could respond, you just gave her a knowing look.
"Oh? You two? Seriously? Oh, I'm sorry, did you or?" She was obviously regretting involving herself in my business, since, well, she didn't think of it that way.
"Oh no! no! He ended it with me." You spoke softly, so the conversation was mainly between the two of you. Since, well, she was one of your friends.
"Really? With the way he's been looking at you ever since he's noticed you've been here, it really counteracts his actions, I've noticed." Zora just smiled at you. She was trying to lighten the mood by being playful.
Her words made you turn around out of curiosity, and damn was she right. Yes, he was in the middle of having small talk with others in the group, but once in a while, he would peek over, like he was physically checking up on you.
A small flush fell across your cheeks as you turned back around, and Zora noticed automatically. "Oh my god. You're still in love with him, aren't you?" She teased before she gently pushed you.
Your eyes met hers, but you soon looked away, like you were too embarrassed to truly admit that you were still in love with the man who had left you months ago. "If I said yes...?"
She just laughed. "Before I answer that...why did he break it off with you...? There just seems like a missing piece to this puzzle here."
"His museum had gotten a letter a few months ago about, well...shutting the place down. That's his lifeline, you know? That's his whole career in front of him..." You stopped for a moment before you continued. It all came back to you."
"He'd gotten distant, sad, and desperate. Eventually he felt like because he couldn't keep his career how it had always been, he thought he didn't deserve me. I think he was afraid that he couldn't treat me the way he usually could with everything that was going on, and I think he felt that it was unfair... so well, he just said he needed some space, and here we are."
Zora listened as she gently caressed your shoulder in comfort. "You know what I think? I think that man is so deeply in love with you, he's smitten with you, and he has no idea how to express it to you after everything."
"Oh, Zora, please-" You just teased before she cut you off.
"No! Listen! I'm being serious! You should at least try to make some kind of small talk with him. That man is in love with you."
You listened intently before you truly thought about it. God, was she right? Was Henry really still that much in love with me after everything?
Soon enough, the group had made it up to the top of the cliff. Duncan and Zora were setting up the gear and all the materials needed to successfully get to the Quetzalcoatlus's nest.
You sat near the edge of the cliff. Not near enough to give you a heart attack, but just comfortably enough before you felt a presence sit down beside you. It was Henry.
"Henry." God, the way his name just slipped off your tongue made you wanna just smile.
"Hey." He slightly smiled at you before he inhaled. "How have you been...?"
"I've been ok..." You spoke with a softness to your voice before he landed his eyes on yours. "And you? The museum, how's that?"
He just nervously laughed like he was trying to keep everything positive. "Ah, that, yeah, well, um, unfortunately closing down, so, but I've been-"
"Oh shit- I'm sorry..I really did love that place." You gave him a sympathetic look as you listened. You knew that day was coming but but you never thought it would be so soon.
He just nodded, "Oh no! It's um, I don't know honestly. I'm kind of stuck at this point in my life right now."
"You're not alone by the way...I just wanted to make that clear." You just faced him with your eyes, and all you could see was that admiration, that desperation to just get something, or someone right.
He was thinking, contemplating, and it was quiet for a moment, so quiet that you could truly feel the tension that Zora had brought up from before. You tried to lighten the mood to make him think of the positives. "Do you remember when you asked me out on a date for the first time, and you took me to that museum and just got so deep into the history of the place, you thought you had screwed up the date?"
His expressions lit up as you told an early memory the two of you had together. "Oh my god...I really thought I messed that up, because what woman wants to walk around and listen to a man talk about dinosaurs?"
You just gave him a soft smile as you gently nudged his arm, referring to you as someone who'd listen to him talk about his passions.
His expression softened, and god were those eyes just something. As he gently touched overtop of your hand, making sure the coast was clear before he gently laid it overtop of yours, in a way that was comforting, yet appreciative.
The tension felt like electricity through the touch that was your hands simply overlapping each other. Those nervous butterflies were still in your stomach, even after everything.
Your moment together was cut short when the group was ready to start trailing down the side of the steep cliff, which was disappointing and honestly hard to let go of. This wasn't exactly your cup of tea, but it was a part of the mission.
As you started to adjust your gear over and around your hips, you noticed Henry was not looking all too good. He was afraid of heights and 100% not ready for this.
As you finished adjusting your gear. You moved over to him to give him a slight caress on the back, full of affection and affirmation; no words were needed.
Even with a gentle caress, his body reacted to you, tensing and yet almost immediately relaxing when he realized it was you would was touching him that way.
"You got it." You spoke before you reluctantly let him go, before you moved over to Zora, who was waiting for you to settle off his cliff.
He smiled, almost wanting to pull you back in, just to feel you once more. His stomach churned not only out of fear of the next activity, but he was also lovesick.
You were nervous, but the quicker you did it, the better it would be, since, well, not everything good or bad lasted forever.
You followed in Zora's footsteps as you watched her descend the cliff slowly, but with a pace. Doing little hops as she adjusted her rope every time to the pace she was making herself. There was no other way down except well, down.
Your hands shook as you slowly leaned over the edge, holding onto the rope for dear life before you began to hop down and land right back against the cliff, safe and sound. For now.
"Oh my god. I can't believe I'm doing this!" You said with a nervous laugh.
"Oh, come on! You're a natural!" Zora raised her voice in response since she was further away from you.
As a majority of the group started to make their way to the location of the nest, you watched Henry, who was right above you. He was obviously uncomfortable, more scared than anything, as he held onto the ropes for dear life. Once in a while, he would slip against the rocks and catch himself, which, every time he did, made you think you were having a heart attack.
You, Zora, LeClerc, and Henry finally made landfall in the Quetzalcoatlus nesting area. The area almost looked like it had originally been some ancient temple long before these creatures had made landfall in these areas.
Henry immediately moved in and got to work on trying to carefully collect the DNA that was needed for the final sample, as he spoke with Zora about some possible outcome ideas for the samples whenever they got back to land.
You scouted out the area out of curiosity, since this was your first time being in a dinosaur's nesting area. As you wrapped back around the entrance of the nest, as soon as you stood, the mother came flying in, landing just on the edge of the entrance of the nest before immediately starting to peck and flap at you.
The creature was huge, and you didn't get much reaction time before you were scattering around to find a place small enough that the Quetzalcoatlus couldn't reach you.
Henry took a deep breath before panic started to settle in as he collected the last little bit of sample that was needed. "Got It!" He spoke out before the Quetzalcoatlus headed straight for him, and he dove under it, dropping that precious sample. LeClerc threw a hard and bulky object at the creature. Making it turn around and follow him out of the cave as soon as it realized what, or really who, had hit her.
As the Quetzalcoatlus faded out of sight, Henry immediately ran for the sample that they so desperately needed before Zora had yelled for him to watch out for the rope.
It was too late before he had been dragged out by Duncan, who was pulling the rope back up. You followed, and so did Zora, except she caught herself on the rocks before the cliff, trying to grab at your hand before both you and Henry were dangling on the edge of the cliff.
Both of you hit the side of the cliff before. Ultimately, you held onto the side of the cliff, almost hyperventilating as you predicted your fate right there. "I think I'm going to be sick!" You cried out as you shook. Henry called out for you before he tried to push and pull to grab the sample.
As Zora watched, she noticed the ropes giving into the tension between his movements and the rubbing of the rocks. "Henry! The rope is going to break!"
Henry hurried before he grabbed the sample and exhaled. "I got it!" He smiled before the rope broke on both of you, leaving you stranded on the side of the steep cliff with nothing to hold onto, both the extruding rock.
"We're going to fall!" You cried before you held on for your life. Henry was doing just as bad, a foot or two away from you. he held onto the rock protruding from the cliff as he tried to control his breathing. "Shit- Shit-" He exhaled in panic.
Your grasp slipped so slightly, and you cried out in fear. This was it, this was going to be your death, and you couldn't even admit to him that you still loved him.
"Henry!" You spoke out in heavy breaths as you looked over at him.
He didn't have to say a single word. His eyes, the way his brows furrowed into a sadened look as he listened oh so intently, like it was his last time hearing your voice.
You started to slip before you panicked. "I- I love you, Henry!" You couldn't hold on anymore as you slipped to what appeared to be your death.
Before even hearing your full words, he dove after you as both of you fell. He didn't need to hear the full words because, truly, deep inside, god, he knew that you loved him more than anything in the world.
Both of you came crashing down, slamming into branches, leaves, and eventually plummeting straight into a body of water below.
As you fell straight into the water, your body reacted to the shocking chill of the water's natural temperature, before you could even gasp up out of the water for a breath of air, Henry pulled you out in desperation. Both of you were soaked from head to toe as he pressed you flush against his warm body.
He was gasping for air, but focused fully on you. "Are you alright?? Please tell me you're alright!" He spoke out as he quickly moved pieces of your wet hair out of your face. You could feel his hands shaking with adrenaline as he touched you oh so gently.
The way he felt against you was bringing back those sweet little butterflies you've had in your chest before when you had been around him earlier that day. He held you close, his arm holding up your back, almost wrapping you around him in a secure blanket.
You slowly nodded to his voice before you spoke, "I'm ok, I'm alright..." You trailed your hand up towards his neck as you pulled him closer to you. The first time you had seen him here, on this same mission, he had the same look for you now as he did when you first caught each other's eyes. His pupils were big, his brows were furrowed, and his jaw was slackened just slightly.
Oh my God. This man loved you.
"We're not dead." You spoke as a smile sparked on your face.
"No. No, we're not." He followed your smile with his own
"Holy shit." You just laughed in amazement at how lucky both of you truly were.
He just chuckled at your way of coming down from the adrenaline as he admired every piece of you.
As you came down from your adrenaline, you just looked back at him before you wrapped your hands into his hand in a gentle manner, before you smiled at him.
"I love you." You spoke with a true heart, a heart full of love for the nerdy man who was holding you against him.
He didn't respond immediately because he was nervous. He was afraid of telling you about how he feels about you, the situation, and all his apologies he wanted to make to you for being selfish.
"I-" He stuttered slightly as his cheeks flushed.
You smirked playfully at him as you kissed his cheek before slowly taking off his glasses, before gave him a soft kiss against his lips.
He pressed his lips deep into yours as he passionately kissed you. Running his hand to wrap around your hip and the other to stay on your back for support.
You pressed your body against his as you smiled against his lips. You tried to put words together as both of you pressed your lips together, desperate, hungry, and downright sexy. "God, I've missed you so much-" You made out in mumbles as you never let each other go. Only letting go to catch a few breaths here and there.
He desperately hummed against your lips as you kissed him. "Oh," He gently groaned, as he grabbed the back of your neck to breathe.
As he breathed heavily, he placed small kisses on your lips and your forehead before he looked into your eyes and spoke to you, after everything.
"I love you so much." He caressed your back as he placed a kiss on your nose.
"I know." You whispered close to him as you smiled, before you wrapped your arms around him, embracing how he felt, his body fitting perfectly between yours after all those months without him.
