PORTUGUESE 🇧🇷🇵🇹:
📂 Ficha de Campo: Projeto Rastro Jurássico
Indivíduo: Apolo (Apo, Tico, Pip, Lio)
Espécie: Corythosaurus (juvenil)
Status: Sob cuidados humanos / Resgatado

📂 Field Report: Jurassic Trail Project
Individual: Apolo (Apo, Tico, Pip, Lio)
Species: Corythosaurus (juvenile)
Status: In human care / Rescued
Rescue History:
Unlike the other hatchlings born surrounded by the herd, Apolo knew silence too soon. Whether because he was smaller or because he was born during a flight, he couldn’t keep up with the adults. The herd followed its survival instinct and left him behind, camouflaged among the ferns, waiting for a call that never came.
When our team arrived to map the migration route, we found only this small brown figure with white spots, huddled and trembling among gigantic footprints.
The blue loop is not a decorative accessory, but the first gesture of care he received. It was made from a piece of our team’s technical marking tape. Tying it on was the way we found to identify him and ensure he felt like he “belonged” to something again.
Behavior and Adaptation:
Today, a year later, Apolo prefers notebooks to earthen nests.
Although the trauma of abandonment still manifests in startles at loud noises, he has developed a unique way of communicating:
Since he had no adults to teach him to “sing,” Apolo decided that our radio equipment would be his mentors.
We tried playing recordings of adult Corythosaurus, but he refuses to imitate them. He prefers to perfectly mimic the beeps of the devices, our voices, and—much to the researchers’ despair—the team’s coughs and sneezes.
Science teaches us about fossils, but Apolo teaches us about resilience. Meet the most stubborn “intern” at the Jurassic Trail, who’d rather mimic a radio communicator than be a dinosaur. 🦖💙📻
The New Muttaburrasaurus
A lot of people are displeased with the new depiction of Muttaburrasaurus mostly due to how shrink wrapped it is.
So I decided to sketch out my own version of it with more muscle/fat tissue and the classic inflatable nose seen in older depictions.
I always love it when we discover something new about a species we’ve known about for decades but I can agree that I’m not a fan of shrink wrapping.
