Backstory. The song was initially written as parody song, whichĀ made fun of the famous grunge scene in the United States in the early 90's.

Intended as a parody of grunge, the lyrics of the song make no sense, and are a intentional dig at grunge bands such as Nirvana who would use strange and unrelated phrases to construct their lyrics. In this way the lyrics came off as hilarious, and yet they work surprisingly well with the music, especially that classic "Woo-hoo!" refrain.

šBonus:
"Song 2" is the second single released from Blurās homonymous fifth album. It is a deeply catchy satire of grunge music. It is named "Song 2" because it appears as the second track on the album (both onĀ BlurĀ and the compilation album,Ā Blur: The Best Of), it is two minutes and two seconds long, and it is composed of two verses and two choruses. Fittingly, it also reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. sniff
Joke by Sicktracks: And this Track is so Sick, it reached number 2 without having to bear down š©

"Song 2" was first performed by the band on June 15, 1996 at the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden.
Damon AlbarnĀ told the audience:
"This is the other new song weāre doing. I donāt know what itās called, and I donāt even know what itās about [ā¦] ācos I havenāt really written it yet. Weāre gonna do it anyway. At the moment itās called "Song Number 2."
