THE MOON IN YOUR EYES - Diana
Warnings : attempted murder, a bit of anguish, a mention of blood, sarcasm, a hint of anger, sadness. Happy ending
The Mount Targon rose before your eyes with the northern lights as bright as you remembered, the sands of Shurima ended and the earth began with natural life beneath your feet indicating that you were home, a home that didn't feel like home.
You had wandered Runeterra for almost a decade, ever since Leona ascended and the hunt of Solaris for Lunaris and heretics was brutally initiated, with that, the search for your head.
You had no particular god, you just wandered, you did not believe in anyone, only in yourself.
And that's why you were named a heretic; for not following the same god of the Solari.
In the past, before you betrayed the Solari, you had been one of the best in the guard, an example to follow.
But you fell in love. Love is the death of duty.
You closed your eyes at the memory, shaking your head and pulling the shurimana hood over your hair and face before moving forward.
You missed the quietness of the villages, you even wandered into a few of them to notice that their population had dropped to worry, also that as night was falling everyone was retreating into their homes in despair.
Why?
You decided not to waste any more time, you had to continue climbing and in any case prepare to flee, which you were sure would happen.
But you had a duty to fulfill before the night of the full moon arrived.
As soon as you saw the trees become darker you opted to climb one of the trees near the caves, taking the pendant between your fingers and opening it carefully to see the tiny moonstone you had obtained.
You had to find Diana, give her that stone, and go to Ionia, nothing else, you had to be quick, you had to trust your instincts.
You got up from the branch crossing your arms with a sigh, walking on it thinking whether to look in the caves or in the mountain, you didn't know how much Diana had changed since you freed her at the cost of your honor, but it was for love.
You could see a few meters away the torches moving through the woods, you hid behind the trunk leaning out slightly to notice two children running desperately.
Your head tilted to the side with a frown, were they children, did they get that bad?
You moved from branch to branch stealthily, watching carefully where the children were going among the bushes and roots that made them stumble, they were going to some caves, Lunaris.
You straightened up when in one of their falls, they both went face first to the ground and the solaris surrounded them, you waited patiently, you wanted to see how much they changed, how far they could go.
And it became clear to you, that they had gone beyond the limits when one of the swords threatened their head in a move to kill.
It didn't take you long to throw one of the ropes, snapping it on the edge and pulling it into the tree so you would have a weapon to fight with. You observed their alert positions and the children hugging each other as they did not see a successful escape.
Again the rope this time choking one of them, luring him to your tree from which you launched yourself still holding the rope, falling on top of one and cutting his neck, you looked up to see them with a smile.
────Did they miss me...?
You grabbed the children and encouraged them to leave while you stood against the remaining four, readying the sword you had stolen from him mockingly, aiming at their heads individually with a smile.
You had an advantage, you didn't have armor like theirs heavy, you had agility, you were small. You could knock them down and run away.
But it is always bad to trust, so you kept calm waiting for them to give the first blow which you did not take long to receive, they seemed to want to attack with their bodies first to destabilize your position, getting a couple of stumbles and cuts filling your clothes with drops of blood.
Even so, you could not score a killing blow because they took good care of their vital points, they had a good training.
A kick in your chest, a long cut in the opponent's face by your sword made them both fall back and fall face first to the ground, you breathed a couple of times hard, holding your chest to catch your breath.
Still on your knees, raising your sword to them as a sign that you would continue the fight, you would not give up, you never have.
A silver beam of light appeared at your side straight at the solari, making you open your eyes and swallow your saliva to compose yourself, you subtly turned your head to see the silver hair pass by your side with speed and lunge at them with great speed.
Your breathing quickened at the sight of it, so you averted your gaze to where the children had fled before tightening your grip on the sword handle and walking over to the solaris being entertained by the lunari.
You did not look at her, nor did you approach, you just grabbed one of them and pushed him to lunge hard for a good fight.
The sword you had was buried in the trunk, taking advantage of the fact that you could not pull it out, you propelled yourself from it falling on him and using the rope to hang him with force, you only let him go when his neck broke.
Taking the rope as you untied the hanging body, twisting it in your hand you watched the woman stand up, she had no blood stains but on her cheek, her violet eyes were fixed on you immediately, you held her gaze, taking a dagger and adjusting it to the end of the rope, turning your body towards her with a firm pose.
─────You muttered jaded by her insistence, starting to walk towards her────I came to make you a beautiful delivery.
You took her hand seeing her forcing her arm not to take it, you didn't pay attention and left in her gloved hand the pendant.
────What is it?
──── You answered boldly, Diana looked at you, silently scoffing before opening it.
It was a surprise to see a moonstone fragment inside, forcing herself to look at you again.
───Did you come just to.... Hand this over to me?────I ask incredulously.
────You want answers, this might help you. Now that I've made my delivery I'm leaving.
You turned away to her chagrin, it was too dry, cold, bold conversation. It didn't seem like you were friends, it didn't seem like you were lovers.
But she knew, she had brought it on herself by being so harsh.
─────────You're hurt─────Decided to say in search of delaying your retreat a bit.
─────────You turned to look at her surprised─────I didn't know, I thought the burning in my abdomen and leg is just from the excitement!───Chillaste before laughing dryly, Diana looked at the stone between her hands.
You looked at Diana for a few more seconds, she was beautiful, you could even say that time apart had increased her beauty.
But as great as her beauty was, great was her hatred.
─── May you find the answers you want, Diana. Good luck.
You started walking with the slight pain in your leg, not looking at her again, but feeling her gaze on the back of your neck all the time.
You carefully climbed down a rock, feeling your leg protest but deciding not to pay attention to it until you were sure you were far enough away from Diana and her little territory.
You looked up at the moon in the sky, it was beautiful, like its representative on earth.
You averted your gaze with a grimace, it had been years, you should let go of that infatuation Diana had stopped feeling quite some time ago.
Are you so sure about that?
You looked at the lights of the village a few meters away, thinking to take shelter, heal your wound and leave before some gossipy villager sent a message of your stay.
They know you are here.
You spun around with the blade held high, Diana was looking at you from behind a rock with her arms behind her back crossed.
────It's not safe for you to be there.
────Since when do you know what place is safe, since you told me it was safe that the two lunaris you encountered would accept me?───You asked her coarsely, Diana gasped───I remind you that it wasn't.
───She extended her hand to your person and you immediately denied.
───Come on───She took your arm forcing you to walk with her.
You tried to let go, but when you put your hand on hers you felt that shiver you had had so much in the past with her.
It still had the same effect on you. And that bothered you.
Diana's hands ran across your abdomen touching the purple area to know the magnitude of the blow, you were nervous, and cold.
Soon you felt something even colder and doughy, which you knew was a remedy to heal quickly. You didn't look at her even when she stood up and looked at your face attentively.
She had noticed that you avoided looking at her and talking to her, which frustrated her and made her devise a couple of strategies to make you break those actions. She wanted to talk, she didn't want to before, she didn't want to overburden you when you were already dealing with your problems because of her.
────Oye.... Are you going to ignore me for the next while?
He had no answer.
And you swallowed saliva because of his tone.
────It's bad to ignore your elders did you know, it's rude and you're not rude.
...
Diana was getting more frustrated.
───Gema, stop ignoring me────── She asked crossing her arms.
He understood that you were upset, he understood that you didn't want to talk, but he wanted you to at least tell him if anything else in your body hurt he would leave you alone, or so he wanted to believe.
────It's not nice when you ignore me.
He watched you settle into the makeshift bed, this time with your back to him, completely declaring your lack of interest in talking to him.
And Diana understood, but couldn't accept it.
────Please? Stop ignoring me, I want to talk.
────Now if you want to, congratulations to you.
─────Gema, please.
─────No, before I wanted to talk, now I don't.
Diana dropped her shoulders and sighed, took one of the blankets and put it over her body silently.
─────I'm sorry I hurt you.
It was the only thing he said before leaving, he needed to meditate, to try to get in touch with his moon.
You swallowed saliva settling the blanket in complete silence, his apology echoing in your head.
By the time Diana returned to the cave, the sun was beginning to rise and she knew that the Solari would be looking for their companions. She entered carefully and peeked out where you were sleeping, your back was no longer turned, you were facing her and she could see your relaxed face.
You looked harmless, even easy to attack. Diana knew it was a lie, and she knew she shouldn't approach, but it was unavoidable.
So using her good agility and lightness she got close enough to be able to detail your face, your eyelashes, your cheekbones, your lips.
He sat down carefully, without stopping to admire your pretty face with tiny old scars that you got as emblems of won wars. His hand rose, he wanted to feel them, he wanted to touch you, but he refrained with regret and dropped his hand heavily.
"────I don'twant you near me, you believe in your god and your people who have done nothing but kill mine!"
Diana swallowed saliva, it was his voice.... His words covered in his rage after murdering the elders, and that wasn't the worst thing he said.
"────Diana, let's talk calmly, we have to get out of here!
───── I don't want to listen to you, Gema, I don't want to see you anymore!"
Her jaw trembled and her eyes came back to rest on your face, since that day she only saw you four times, three of them were from afar while she was traveling and in passing she was looking for you.
─────Murmuro taking the blanket to shelter you more──────I never wanted to say it, I didn't want you far away, I wanted you with me, I was afraid. I didn't want you to go away.
He got up turning around to get food, taking his crescent shaped sword he turned to look at your contracted face now, but decided to leave before you woke up.
You opened your eyes once you saw her hair disappear, you looked where she was sitting, she had left the charm there, but the stone was not inside.
You sat on the bed and looked at the sun rising, a sun that in the past you adored, you remembered your guards, your training, everything.
And you had anger, you had pain, you had fear. But you had endured many things from the bush and its people, and you were not going to remain silent any longer.
I didn't want to leave either────You raised your voice enough, you knew he hadn't left yet.
You hoped he would leave, you hoped he would be clear.
And he heard you perfectly because in a matter of minutes he had returned and was looking at you with attention, one that you returned.
────Since when...?
────Since you came closer.
────Since I...
─────I didn't want to leave either, I didn't want to get away, I wanted to talk, you made it clear that you didn't want that, you didn't want me to be with you either, you wanted me away.
Diana didn't take long to kneel down, put her gun aside and look at you with much more attention.
──────────This scar is new─────She pointed to one you had near your ear, you hummed in response────It's on your cheek too.
────You seem to remember my face quite a bit.
────I... I want to talk, do you want to?
──── Let's talk then─────Cediste settled in front of her, Diana straightened up thinking about her next words.
─────I never wanted you away, I didn't mean all that. I was upset, I was... Blinded by knowing that I was always surrounded by those who killed my family, I just wanted you with me.
────Hm.
────I know it's not justifiable, it never will be, I'm really sorry I yelled at you, I'm sorry I made you run away from here and be a nomad, I never wanted this....
You nodded a couple of times taking your gaze off her, Diana was worried, she was being sincere, didn't you believe her?
────What... What happened when I left?
───... Leona thought I murdered you, I had your sword in my hands.
───That's why you destroyed one of the representations of the sun?
───Leona was the one who destroyed it───Sigh realizing that you didn't believe her────I just wanted answers and I pay for my decisions every day.
────It was weird how I found it, it was.... It was on my bed, it just appeared there like it was nothing and it was so weird.... I knew it was from the moon, and I figured it would have answers for you, that's why I came back.
────You traveled for months, just for this...─────He pointed to the stone he had taken out of his armor.
────It's worth it if it helps you in your goal.
Diana swallowed saliva, clenched her jaw and lowered her gaze to just stare at the stone, her eyes were misty.
────I always thought of you even when I thought you hated me.
────I could never hate you.... Or anything resembling hate.
His gaze collided with yours, he could see a hint of mockery on his face.
────So you wanted me near you?─────He asked mockingly, Diana snorted in amusement.
She could see your smile, that smile that used to brighten her nights when she came back from her punishments in the past. How much she had missed that smile.
────She declared in a whisper, as if it were forbidden, leaning in to say it lower.
Diana imitated his position with a subtle smile.
───I still love you like the first day.
She saw your smile falter and turn into a bigger one, your hands clasped hers, taking the stone and placing it on top of her heart.
────This belongs to you, you are the moon──────Murmured you, keeping it in his armor.
You saw her hand go to your cheek, cupping it and making you look at her, her face was much closer.
────You... Do you forgive this misguided moon for hurting you?
────I forgive you everything, but you must be careful what you say.
Once your lungs demanded air, you parted with ragged breaths and smiled at her admiring her eyes.
The moon is in your eyes.
────Ah yes?, I believe that in my eyes there is only you.
