STOKED! Took my #vintagemtb #diamondbackbikes DBR WCF Vertex out for the first time today since completing the restoration. Has to be at least 20+ years since its last ride. My rebuild of the Manitou Comp was a success, the action is flawless. So are the XT-M738 shifter/levers (they’re the only thing besides the tires and the @hite_rite that aren’t original equipment). Managed to find some loose bolts 🤣and the saddle may need to go, but overall, DAMN, I’m impressed. It’s crazy light, agile and the 42/32/22 crankset is noticeably different from the 46/36/26 on my Axis Pro. I believe I’m going to need to do a detailed comparison between this bike, my Axis and the Gary Fisher Marlin. My ‘95 #diamondbackbikes WCF Vertex is getting there! Chain sized & fitted (thanks for the video @parktoolblue), cables & housings on, grips installed. All that’s left: fine tune the shifting & brakes, rebuild the hubs, install bar ends. HOLY CRAP! I just scored a completely stock, totally unmodified, original down to the reflectors #1995 #diamondbackbikes WCF Vertex, in 19” (my size) for $160 on #craigslist!!! I haven’t had a chance to go over it in detail yet, but the chainstay protector doesn’t have a mark on it, and other than some rusty bolts and a chain that definitely needs to be replaced this bike looks ready to ride. The Manitou fork compresses but will definitely need a rebuild. The wheels are true and the tires even hold air. I am absolutely flabbergasted. The seller got the bike from his uncle many years ago, put it in a storage unit and forgot about it. He was happy to see it go to a good home. This is really, really, really going to be a problem. There’s no way I’m selling this bike! It’s running XT/LX, with Magic 230SBP rims and GripShift SRT-800 X-Ray with COMPLETELY CLEAR PLASTIC BITS. The Ritchey saddle is near perfect (it had a crappy gel pad cover thing).
