Yesterday ( October 10, 2016) the weather was pleasant, enjoyable even considering we live in Las Vegas. The sky was full of endless clouds casting shadows and the all mighty sun was only giving out a few rays of sunlight. Overall the day was so beautiful and I spend must of the afternoon outside. I was hanging out with one of my best friends his name is Raldy. Raldy owns a Geo Tracker (sort of like a Jeep) the convertible top was open and we were just siting there listening to Disney music on spotify. Then came the song savages from Pocahontas. At first we were both singing along but then the question was ask "who is the real savage the settlers or the Native Americans?" Obviously being the Disney fan that I am, I answer " the settlers the leader is Ratcliffe".  While Raldy look at me puzzled and said "they were both savages". I looked at him shock and confused so I did the only thing I could think of and took out my backpack. I pull out my bell hooks Education as the Practice of Freedom book and quote " I imagine them hearing spoken English as the oppressor’s language, yet I imagine them also realizing that this language would need to be possessed, taken, claimed as a space of resistance” (hooks 1994 p. 169). The settlers are stripping the Native Americans of their own land, culture and the song color of the wind states that the settlers are barbaric humans that have a strong believe of manifest destiny “You think you own whatever land you land on The earth is just a dead thing you can claim” (colors of the wind, Pocahontas).

Raldy then argues “two wrongs do not make a right.” And with the song ending -spotify played both part one and two-. We listen “Destroy their evil race Until there's not a trace left” sang the Native American and the Settlers. Then I agree with Raldy but did not physically say it out loud I just turn towards him and he said “ Yup they are both savages.”
