Chapter 1 - Devil is a Part-Timer

This one is like, really long so bear in mind. This has like, 24 pages of not even story, on google docx's, I am sharing just chapter 1 [or what would be a chapter 1] of it.

The heroes, Emilia, Emerada, Olba, and Albert just won against the demon army and king Satan. Just as they plan to strike Satan down Archangel Gabriel and his small group of angel soldiers interrupt, surprising all as an angel appearing is very rare. No one knows Gabriel on sight, only Satan is able to recognize him through Lailah's description. Gabriel tells everyone that Satan cannot be killed, and after drawing out some tension he then explains that the demon king cannot be killed because Satan is also the sephirot Da'at. The tree of life is withering, causing a lot of problems in Ente Isla and it needs da'at to function and hopefully revive it. This comes as a surprise to all. Gabriel hints to Satan privately out of earshot of the others, not wanting to reveal Lailah's actions lest heaven look bad, it is because of special knowledge and a gem given to him by the angel Lailah, who saved Satan's life centuries ago. The hero's bring Satan to the western continent to be held within the walls of the Church of Ente Isla, unsure of what to do. Satan goes along with both to understand this situation as well, not being in a position to negotiate as the heroes defeated him and his army, and to figure a way to save demons. Alciel is allowed to follow them.

I've been reading the manga recently, I saw the first volume a few years back, and I've read a decent chunk of the LN, but got distracted by other stuff. So anyways I'm back on that shit but reading the manga, cause idr where I left off in the LN and kinda forgot a lot anyways.

This also means, fanart and fanfic hunting time. But there's so little of either, it sucks 😔. I've scoured so many different fanfic sites, I have seen the abyss, and it stared back; and its name is webnovel, wattpad, and quotev. I have learned that a popular genre in webnovel fanfic is multiverse dimensional chat, weird but pop off, and that no one is brave enough to make the ship be with Maou, instead they go with Emi. Also, an abysmally low level of Blue Exorcist crossovers, there should be more fr; tbh if I had a record of finishing fics I would do it myself, but I dont alas.

Also, people creating a lot of drama around the ending and particularly the Emi loss as they call it. Idk if I'm crazy but, romance was never the main point of the story; and having a child is never an indicator of love or a reason to get married, cause it don't often work out and causes more problems.

Tbh Maou shouldn't have gotten together with either Emi or Chiho as both are underage (Chi is 16, Emi is 17) with Maou being over 300 (humanized to a generously low 21). And he… doesn't really show romantic feelings to anyone nor has it ever been postulated he's ever been interested. The only indication we have that he might at least have sexual desires is that when Alas first called him [papa] Maou denied her being his, but not that he's been with anyone, but that's speculation and he could have been just focusing on this random child calling him dad. [There's a funny line in the dub that's like "lets focus on your breathing, not my sex life"; I'm not sure what the sub is like and don't want to search out that scene in the light novel]

Deadass thought Maou was aroace the entire time, gonna be real and that neither would get with him. More than being surprised Maou got with Chiho, I'm more surprised Maou got with anyone.

I do think Chi is a good character though, but the last few volumes rushed her development and added unnecessary baggage [such as the extreme power; her learning idea link is one thing, the bow yesoid another]. I also don't comprehend the reasoning on having her being underage, having her be 20-21 and in college wouldn't really change anything of her character--same with Emi.

I have seen in some posts that the manga is/has changed a few things and personally? I hope the manga just removes the romance for Maou entirely. Or make Maou less aromantic coded at least and pivot the interest to someone that's an adult; it would be just as head-whipping as that ending.

My suggestions: Either of the generals, one of the older co-workers, hell fucking Gabriel would be better.

Ashiya x Rika is cute though. Keep that.

Big brain idea; Emi x Chiho. They're girls of similar age, both from farm families, confronted with and have their worldview flipped over, strong of heart and mind. They get along great, I can see the love.

"I have a bathtub." She says this as if it's all the additional explanation that's required, meeting his open mouth with a reproachful scowl, like he's the one behaving strangely. "Relax, Maou. I'm not going to sponge you clean, if that's where your mind is headed."

"Why would you think my mind would be headed there?" he snipes, stepping fully into the room with the slow, careful movements of someone who hurts almost everywhere.

Emi rises to her feet, a cat-like gleam in jade eyes, almost glowing in the candlelight. "You're blushing." A small, private smile follows, then morphs into another look of intense worry. "And I know it's worse than you want to let on. Why do you think I brought you here, idiot?"

"I don't know, maybe so you could slice me up and eat me where no one would see?" Maou's sarcasm falls flat opposite the slightly disappointed frown she directs at him—almost a pout. She's unacceptably captivating in this light, even smattered with his blood.

Perhaps, especially smattered with his blood. Maou is still working that part out.

"What about you?" he blurts, feeling the words land like an anvil, waiting for a crash that doesn't come.

"Me?" she says softly, a little surprised. "I cleaned off well enough in the clinic restroom. I'm hardly the priority, now."

Most of what is left stains only her clothes—that's true enough—but the smudge of rust on her collarbone and the dried smear over her right eye remain. He reaches out and brushes the mark on the dip of her clavicle, imagining replacing his fingers with his mouth. Emi not only allows the contact, but leans into it ever so slightly, and his momentary fantasy pulses in his lower abdomen, threatening a repeat performance from the organ beneath.

"What do you want, Emi?" He's asked the question before, a hundred different ways, but never like this. Never with a dare folded into the words, a challenge he knows she won't rise to. So it's really no harm to extend the offer, prop open the door, and let Emi be the one to slam it shut as she usually did...
