The only reason I don’t ship Dettles is because I think Nettles deserves so much better than Daemon
I understand that. It’s not obviously everyone’s cup of tea because Daemon is problematic and Nettles is one of the few genuinely good/innocent characters in the Dance. She does technically deserve better, but he loved her enough to sacrifice his own life for her and he treated her with the tenderness she deserved.
Again everybody is entitled to their own opinion as long as it isn’t rooted in biases. Not saying you are doing this anon, but some people use the excuse of Daemon being a morally gray man to say he shouldn’t be with Nettles while shipping him with every other (white/non-Black) woman in the books/show.
It’s a pattern cause I’ve seen this said in other fandoms like Bridgerton and The Bear when it comes to Black female characters. With the latter people will say Sydney is too good for Carmy, but if Sydney was a white woman like Claire some of these people wouldn’t care about Carmy being a hot mess. Hell, Claire wouldn’t even exist or if she did the end of her arc would’ve been last season, but that’s a separate issue.

She'd probably be a little bit turned on to be honest.
I can imagine she gets annoyed sometimes if he won’t let her get out of bed and throws his body weight on top of her to prevent her from doing so, but ultimately she finds it endearing.
Probably the most icky thing that I can headcanon is Daemon nearly beating a man to a bloody pulp cause he was being a bit too friendly, but that’s about it.
I think general mainstream fans might be more accepting towards Daemon and Rhaenyra’s relationship being “disrupted” by Nettles. Just in general Emma and Matt don’t have the insane chemistry that Milly and Matt did and as a former Daemyra shipper I’m not even interested in them in the second season. It would be far more interesting to see the conflict that Nettles would introduce to their relationship plus I can imagine Nettles and Daemon having good chemistry. It’s only the hardcore obsessive Daemyra stans, the potential racism is a WHOLE different story which could affect general fans’ outlook on Nettles but not all the fans of the show are going to be like that, hopefully
Unfortunately for as much flack as I give Dumbnyra stans for how they act towards Nettles and her relationship with Daemon it’s not just them that hold anti-Black views when it comes to the ship.
They won't call someone the n-word or say the only canonical Black girl should be cut from the show, but Team Green salivates at the thought of Nettles being abused by Daemon, and then they’ll go turn around and ship white couples that are just as if not more problematic than them.
(And some of them will argue with you if you even suggest that Dettles and Alysmond are on the same level in terms of problematic dynamics).
They really think “saving” a fictional Black woman(aka not wanting to see Black woman in a romantic light) doesn't make them as shitty as Dumbnyra stans. I’d believe they were sincere, but the fact that they have no problem shipping whatever as long as there is a white woman or other races front and center makes them full of shit too.
Looking at other fandoms like Marvel, Star Trek, The Bear, The Flash, and Bridgerton (yes even a show where the showrunner is a Black woman and she prioritizes diversity has issues with Black women being the love interest 🫠), general audiences aren’t any better when it comes to ships where half of the couple is a Black woman.
Like the ship could be perfect, there is no one else in the picture, and they were literally written for each other, but people will always find something wrong with it and act like the ship will bring forth the anti-Christ if it happens.
So Dettles is going to face an uphill battle in terms of everybody(crazy stans and casual fans alike) accepting their relationship and seeing it as anything more than a booty call, grooming, or forced “wokeness.”
