I have my issues with the trans community but the body modification aspect is not part of my problem. The philosophy around the body modification (that it is the answer to all your distress, that it will all go away after you’ve had surgery and hrt, that once you have it you no longer have to think about the impact that being socialized male/female has had on you and the way you interact with others, etc etc) is obviously an issue, but I meet trans people who don’t buy into all of that very often, who still elect to have surgery. As a detransitioner, I feel sympathy, as I did have my dysphoria alleviated by surgery despite my decision to desist, and I genuinely don’t want to take that away from people, because I’m not sure I ever would have found relief through psychiatric treatment. I honestly feel like the choice to have body modification surgery should be available for the sake of body autonomy for all, and that the choice to have it shouldn’t be seen as an inherent moral failing. The availability of hrt and surgery for adults is not even close to the root of the issue with what’s going on within the trans community, in my opinion at least.
I see where you're coming from. I don't know how long you're detransitioned by now and doesn't matter how long, if long or short, your opinion is still valid. For me it was just that the longer I lived as a detransitioner the more I realized that therapy can help, even though it's hard and won't 'fix it' completely, but that doesn't mean that transition should be the other option. Things like depression, anxiety etc. Aren't fully 'curable' either and everyone who has that knows that but noone would ever alter their body for that, tattoos and colored hair doesn't count because that's not an attack to your overall health. For me it's important that the overall health is more important than just the mental health, especially if your mental health wants you to harm yourself
