Why brown parents are high key pretty cool
I was thinking about this the other day, brown parents are actually really cool, like respectable cool.
So I was looking at my own parents’ story and we immigrated here when I was like 5. I can't even stress how hard they worked. Like until I was 10, my dad barely got to see me and my mum for like 5 years. I’m talking 4 days in a month max at some points. That could not have been easy. Being in a new country, alone? That’s like the first day of school, except on steroids.
We definitely had it easier than most families because dads brother and sister had already assimilated here.
But living as a guest for 3 years and going from one place to another is NOT easy. Like until I was ten, my mom was basically living that single mom life, working that 9-5 job. Except her commute was like 2 hours since we couldn’t really afford another car and my mom hadn’t really ever driven until she came to America. So her work was actually like 7-7.
Eventually, we got our own place, and moved out, (with the grandparents of course). And even then I still remember the second-hand furniture we had to use, and looking back at it now they never really let me feel that we had any less than any other family out there.
As a child, I was never really in any extracurriculars. And that used to make me so mad because all my peers had opportunities to apply to clubs but looking back at it today, I really understand the sacrifices they’ve had to make to give me the comfortable life we have today. And this is just the tip of the iceberg if I went into all of the sacrifices they’ve had to make this post would likely send tumblr into overdrive cause it would be *That* long.
So thank you Mumma and Papa, for working your butts off, and for providing our family with everything we have today.
