Today is National Industrial Design Day, and we’re observing the occasion with this sketch from Thomas Babbit Lamb (1896–1988), one of the many prominent industrial designers whose papers are housed here at the Hagley Library. This sketch was created for the A.P. Babcock Company at some point between 1924 and 1945 for its Kiddyland line of talcum powder. The product was one of many tie-ins to capitalize on Lamb’s popular Kiddyland cartoon series, which ran in Good Housekeeping magazine and provided the basis for a line of children’s toys, as well as a variety of related products and advertising initiatives. This sketch can be found in the Hagley’s Thomas Lamb papers (Accession 2181). To view other digitized items from this collection, click here to view them in our Digital Archives.
