I really miss working on my old Undertale fanfic, Descentale. It was this big project for me once... I even tried making it into a comic at one point... made multiple blogs about it. And ultimately, I realized I was no longer happy with it in its current state because I am a perfectionist to a fault.
I remember my OC that I originally shipped with Sans and Papyrus but ultimately switched solely to Asgore... Emily Patricia Thyme... EmPaThy. I still feel like she has a lot of potential as a character. She's a human magician, a divorced single mom, she's autistic, and she has a close relationship with her daughter, Patricia Anne Thyssens. I miss writing about them. I just lost my spark.
To be honest, that whole universe's lore needs a desperate re-write. Namely in the characters I made for the lore. Needs more diversity and less cringe.
But in all honesty, I think I was too lofty in my goals when I was trying to write that story. I really like focusing a lot on Asgore's relationship with Emily and Pat and even wrote a one-shot exploring those themes. I haven't published it on AO3 but maybe I should...
So, a long time ago, I tried to write this multi-chapter Undertale fanfic called "Descentale", which was a story that focused on the Undertale universe after the events of the game. It featured a lot of OCs, and I intended to delve into lore that I came up with for the Undertale universe as far as the history between humans and monsters. Sadly, I never finished the fic, and I don't intend to in its current state. But I do want to discuss my headcanon about human-monster history.
Once, sometime during ancient history, monsters had yet to exist. Also, many humans were capable of using magic around this time. Some magicians were more powerful than others. This often resulted in turf wars. To aid them in battle, magicians used their magic, the dust of the earth, and a bit of their own life force to create non-human soldiers, ones that varied in appearance according to their purpose. These were the first monsters. Monsters were fairly easy to create, though the most powerful ones took a lot more energy to make. Boss monsters were the strongest of all, often used as generals to command magician armies, or as guardians that protected locations and valuable treasures.
Unfortunately, most monsters were treated as lesser than humans, simply due to the fact they were so easily destroyed by human violence. They weren't even recognized as people, but as disposable tools without real thoughts or feelings. However, the longer monsters were allowed to live, the more humanity began to realize their initial perception of their creations was way off... not only were monsters far more emotional than humans, they tended to be more empathetic, peace-loving, and kind. Their souls and physical forms were weaker, but had more love in them than any human could hope to have.
It was this discovery that led human magicians to voluntarily ban the practice of monster creation, and to let their armies go free and form their own civilization. Monsters created their own kingdom, with Boss monsters naturally falling into the leaderly role. Eventually, monsters became just as prominent as humans were. For the longest time, there was peace between the two races... until rumors about monsters stealing human souls began circulating. You can fill in the rest.

Emily and Asgore: *are sparring*
Emily: *narrowly dodges a fireball*
Emily: *has an idea on how to win*
Emily: Hey, Asgore! You know how human souls are shaped like hearts?
Asgore: Um, yes?
Emily: And you use fire attacks, right?
Asgore: Yes?
Emily: Well, I guess that means... that you could say...
Emily: *seductively* You know how to set my heart on fire, Mr. Dreemurr~
Asgore: !!!
Asgore: ... Oh... ho ho ho! You... um... you win this one...! *blushes, too stunned to continue*
I’ve been working on Descentale since 2016, and the fact it’s still not finished makes me want to weep. What is wrong with me? I mean, honestly.

Yes, it’s been months... once again... but the latest chapter is finally here!
CHAPTER FOUR OF DESCENTALE (or Five, according to AO3) IS RIGHT HERE!
I hope I haven’t kept you all waiting too long. This is the chapter where Asgore finally shows up! And... so does someone else we know, for that matter.
This chapter is a few pages longer than the previous one, so I hope that sort of makes up for lost time. Enjoy!

Been pondering the next chapter of Descentale and thinking about how slow the burn between Emily and Asgore is actually going to be.
I’m thinking the two of them might develop crushes on each other relatively quickly, but neither of them say anything for a long time because:
Asgore is thinking, “What does a human want with me? I’ve killed six of her kind; there is no way she’d be interested.“
Emily is thinking, “What does a KING want with me? I wasn’t good enough for my human husband, so why would the King of All Monsters be interested?”
In other words, they’re so insecure about themselves and their faults that they refuse to confess. So there’s gonna be a lot of tension, and they’re gonna act like dorky messes around each other.
