An icy shock is sent down his spine as soon as Desdemona's tone for once, turns STERN and angry. The argument between them had started off over something stupidly small and gradually SNOWBALLED as the evening went on. Before he could stop himself, he had thrown a derogatory insult her way, too frustrated to say anything of real note. Kai slowly turns around to face his wife after he was more than ready to head back downstairs to the basement instead of facing any consequence for his hurtful words.

Kai's fingers tap against the doorframe irritably, his INKY hues settling on Des with the flicker of rage finally dying down. " Then don't make me say it again. " A long exhale leaves him after a beat, the tension in his shoulders slowly leaving as well. " You know I don't want to be like that with you, babe. It's just been a long day. "

                          Waiting outside the large door after knocking, she wondered if the other was even home. Cheeks puffed out as she rocked back and forth on her heels, head tipped back until she heard the door opening. Seeing the other woman she flashed her a grin, “Good, you are home,” she greeted but made no move to walk inside. She wasn’t sure where they stood, but that’s what testing the waters were for.

                     There were several ways to get her attention. Normally, she would have preferred a phone call or even a random drop by and have a little chat. But no, it never was nor could it be that simple. This was the third body to pop up on her radar within the last two days and she was beginning to take the hint that someone wanted to have a chat.

Folks talked ( some willingly while others needed a little...persuasion ) and when they did, it helped her move further along with her searching. This time around though, no one was really up for talking unless a monetary bribe was offered up. It wasn’t uncommon for lower level demons to bite their tongues and tell her to go piss up a flagpole, but there was something off about this time. The mere mention of Desdemona Godfrey had them clamming up and refusing to play ball. 

She of course did get the final piece of the puzzle ( punching faces took a toll on ones knuckles, either that or she was getting old and really, that was a mess for later ) after she had a lengthy talk with members of an illegal gambling ring. Faith still didn’t understand kitten poker and she wished she didn’t have the dogs because she would have walked out with the jackpot. But after she pumm—spoke with the kind...people at the game, she wound up at a nightclub on the other side of town.

Romantic love had never been easy for Kai to understand. Seeing it in movies, reading about it in books, seeing it in real life over the years as he grew up around his peers, yet not witnessing it between his own parents. He never felt it until he had spent enough time around Desdemona. And they had been happy for quite a while, hadn’t they been? Kai had done what he had believed to be the right things in a relationship. Though, with his parents tragic deaths came a nosedive in his mental health, in how their relationship functioned in day-to-day life, in how Kai viewed Desdemona in general. 

Would she never be satisfied with the amount of pain she’s caused him? 

“ Shut up...shut up. Just fucking shut up! “ Kai grabs the nearest thing he can grab onto, ending up with him hurling a glass ashtray from the table into the wall at what he believes to be Desdemona herself standing before him. An explosion of small shards of glass litter the carpeted floor of the basement and he carelessly steps towards her with gritted teeth, looking like a unhinged, rabid animal. “ You think I wanted this?! You’re the one that wants me like this. You enjoy it don’t you? Fucking crazy bitch. “

Remember? Of course he remembered. The love they had before she decided she was too good for him, that he wasn’t worth sticking around for. It had been real once, not all hatred and aggression, but instead Kai’s first and only time experiencing romantic attraction. A deep ache resounds in his chest as his eyes lay on what seems and appears to Kai’s eyes as a very real visage of his former lover. Her words are music to his ears, calming even as he tightly grips at her clothing and feels the shakiness of his hands in what feels like the fabric, but in reality is only a blanket draped on the couch. 

“ You’ll never leave me...tell me you’ll never leave me. Everyone leaves. I can’t fucking trust anyone anymore, Des. I couldn’t even trust my own    my own flesh and blood. “ Kai’s voice wavers as he speaks in reference to Winter, forcing himself not to think any further about the way he took his sister’s life with his own hands.

Kai feels his throat constrict at the query Desdemona poses to him, hitting too close to home to the deep insecurities he’s had since he was a child. Since starting this movement, recruiting members into the group, he’s felt a sense of belonging he never had before. People who looked to him for guidance, approval, wanted to hear what he had to say; he had all of that now and more. Even if it was a faux friendship when it boiled down to it, relationships built on intimidation and big promises to fulfill, Kai would still rather he be in this position than where he was a couple years ago. 

“ Did you come here to play therapist or did you come here for an actual reason? “ Kai says, swallowing the lump in his throat, irritation evident in his tone as he stares down his current political opponent. There was no need to be all smiles when they’re under his own roof, she’d get a peek of the man that lay beneath the surface of the outspoken but polite facade.
