SHUT UP MY SHOW IS ON. (i love this old man)
Could you talk a little about Brian and Derek Taylor friendship? In pictures and videos they seem pretty close and ngl, Derek is rather attractive so (just pure speculation) I wouldnāt be surprised if Brian found him attractive too.
Yeah sure! Apologies for the long wait!
They met during an interview, and notably, Brian was kind of cold to him right out of the gate. (Probably because he was slightly ill at the time and not feeling well.) But Derek got him to warm up a bit and that's really what got the ball rolling on their friendship.
Brian had Derek ghostwrite for A Cellarful of Noise, after looking other places and really not finding anyone quite right to do it. Once that was done, Derek enjoyed working with Brian so much that he accepted a job as Brian's personal assistant. Obviously, that didn't go quite well, as a journalist is not a personal assistant.
They did have one specific issue in a story I've heard a few times. They went to an event with the Beatles, and at the end, there were three limos waiting out for them. The Beatles was always first, Brian's second and Derek's third. Derek got into Brian's limo, and drove away. When Brian made it back to the hotel, he started screaming at Derek. It got so bad that Derek quit because of it. Brian stormed off and sobbed in his hotel room. Derek eventually went to go talk to him and they worked it out, although Derek did not come back to work, no matter how much Brian wanted him to. Which, Brian probably felt extremely guilty about.
Otherwise though, it seems they worked together closely and enjoyed each other's company. Personally, I think the closeness in photos and such is because of the noise of the rooms they were in, they just needed to be close to hear each other. I just really don't see Brian being all that attracted to Derek. I mean, the man wasn't blind, I'm sure he recognized when a man was attractive, just likely wasn't attracted to Derek. I just don't see enough evidence of a closer relationship to assume they had something.
George Harrison and Derek Taylor interviewed on Terry Willesee Tonight (November 1984).
āGeorge, who is also Dominic [Taylor]ās godfather, wrote [in the book I Me Mine]: āDominic always seemed very familiar. Heās the first person Iāve seen all the way through from birth who I felt like I knew straight away.ā Dominic says of George: āHe was my fatherās closest friend. He is a lovely fellow who has been a wonderful and constant figure in my life.āā - article by Tanith Carey, Daily Mirror (March 31, 1998) Dominic is, of course, the son of Derek and Joan Taylor; and Dominicās film credits also include an appearance in Georgeās āCrackerbox Palaceā music video (as the gangster rat, according to IMDb). āReading what Derek Taylor had to say about George was captivating once again. Perceptions of the man I dearly love by someone as insightful and articulate as Derek have become somehow more important to me. Derek and George exchanged a special banter that often left others in the room completely bewildered by their verbal shorthand. It took time if you wanted to join in because their points of reference were wide reaching and covered decades of colorful and obscure characters and events, many shared during the phenomenal days of the Beatles that gave them a private world of experiences from which to draw. George quoted the wisdom of the great swamis, the Bhagavad Gita and the ancient Vedas, as well as the humor of Lord Buckley, The Goons, Lenny Bruce, Mel Brook's 'The Producers' and Monty Python. At the same time, Derek regaled us with history lessons on both wars, commentary on current events and politics. If anyone in our household had a question pertaining to one of those subjects, George always said, āCall Derek and ask him.ā He was very well read and shared with us information of all sorts, some of which we did not really wish to know, but all of it presented amusingly. I wasn't always certain what was fact or folly (although it didn't seem to matter).ā - Olivia Harrison in the introduction to the 2002 edition of I Me Mine
Brian Epstein was several years older than the Beatles; Jewish, middle-class, privately educated, with an interest in classical music, he seemed an odd choice for the Beatlesā manager. In fact, it was Brian who had chosen them. (...) A complete perfectionist, Brian was great for the Beatles at the start. But he took on too much. Six months after signing up the Beatles, he was also looking after Gerry and the Pacemakers, and he later added Cilla Black, Billy J. Kramer, the Dakotas and others to the list. His meticulousness also made him a bad delegator: when the Beatlesā career took off, in a way that nobody could have predicted, he couldnāt cope. He had no control over the ladsā actions and he had his own problems. Charming and amazingly successful, he still never quite fitted in. Yet without him, the Beatles might never have made the break from lunchtime concerts at the Cavern. The world owes Brian Epstein a great deal.

Iām certain that the actual Paul and John engaged in sexual activity. Iām convinced that they both penetrated each other. It seems that John was the first to penetrate Paul. My question is, when, in your opinion, did Paul fuck John for the first time?
I will have to consult my mclennon penetration timeline. I heard record keeping for this fell to Derek Taylor which perhaps led to his resignation
To celebrate Derek Taylorās birthday i enclose the only clear comprehensive 60s interview of him ive ever seen. I was high off my rocks when it was uploaded so i whooped and hollered with joy, and watched it right after listening to the Mighty Quinn by Manfred Mann (and they say 60s hippie culture is dead hey)
anyhow i also found one of Derekās earlier music and culture articles while doing achievable research for my history essay. i will also enclose that. because i can never resist searching up other contemporary in unrelated topics to see if they pop up!
to celebrate Derekās birthday, hereās my favourite extended bit of his writing: the time he and Joan first took acid, at Brianās housewarming party in May 1967 (from Chapter 11 of Fifty Years Adrift (1984) - the italicised sections are George)
