it’s #fbf but this one has more to it than that, it’s mode bmx’s 15 year anniversary. way back when in late 2004 not long after the last #backyardjam in #derbystorm my friend had decided to finish managing the skatepark, and really at the time "the bike shop derby" my employer was pulling away from bmx as once again the momentum of bmx was slowing down, the plan was hatched for me to manage derby skatepark full time while at the same time setting up my own bmx shop, it was a bit of a gamble really, but at least i still had a full time job within the park, so if the shop didn’t work out as such, no problem. With the help of guy terry and gaz sanders we started to build the first incarnation of mode bmx in storm skatepark, took road trips to distro’s to A get them to supply me and B stock up on a whole new shop range and basically that was it, december 2004 was the start of it all. Of course nothings ever straight forward! storm closed 9 months later i was jobless and with no shop premises! It could have ended there really, no indoor park, bmx was continuing to slow down in the area, what next?. It goes without saying a chance meeting years earlier with a local skateshop owner gave mode it’s chance to continue, massive thanks goes out to claire ashmore and danny calow at 24skatestore for the opportunity to keep this small core store alive, in hindsight and there’s very few photo’s of our shop from then, it was another miracle in the space we had that customers found us and kept the store going, some incredible times were had at this location and some long term friends made, the now infamous blue dog pub mini ramp putting us on the map really helped keep a very small scene going at this point. May 2007 it was time to move again, to our own shop space, not far from where we were, it was an odd shop as it was a converted georgian house over 100 years old and as such looked part shop part front room, but it was once again an almost fresh start for bmx, mutiny bikes a brand we’ve been very close to from day one had a massive fan base in the area and we the shop sponsor for some of their riders meant we had a whole new generation of riders as friends and customers. #fbf it’s back 2004 and the final #backyardjam #derby would host this is the year Roey graduated from his am class win the year before to riding in pro, Jamie bestwick came back to his old home and gave the crowds their own local to cheer on ultimately getting a deserved 3rd and this guy ended up 2nd @mikeescamilla rode every ramp and line available that weekend, flair transfers, combo lines and tricks, this no footed nose pick (my shot was slightly off on timing sorry mike!) on the wooden jersey barrier upon the flatbank to quarter setup caught a lot of people out, hard to ride, harder to make tricks happen on. #derbystorm would close not long after finishing that chapter in bmx #ukbmx #bmx #flashbackfriday #nikon #dslr #derby

#fbf the one and only @sirlayos at the 2004 #backyardjam can’t fault Sergios smooth lines and transfers with this partial flatbank to jersey barrier construction being not as easy as it looks.
