Bridget with an orchid on Caturday.
I was carrying it back after watering and just set it there for a moment. She was mildly curious at most.

An epiphytic orchid with striking fragrant blooms, Dendrobium nobile 'Cooksonianum' (rock orchid) is adaptable to different growing conditions. It thrives in higher humidity and needs well lit conditions from autumn to early spring and kept drier in winter.

Dendrobium bellatulum is an orchid from low to moderate altitude mountain forests in southern Asia. It is an epiphyte with cane pseudobulbs and the flowers which emerge from leaf nodes on leafless stems are known to be fragrant.

lots of people don’t know we have so many - or any - native orchids in Aotearoa! we have around 120 species of native orchid in several different genera, and several undescribed species as well. these are a few of my favourite native species from the last year or so :)
from top left to bottom right: raupeka/easter orchid (Earina autumnalis), tutukiwi (Pterostylis sp), mountain caps orchid (Caladenia lyallii), silver-back spider orchid (Corybas macranthus), māikuku/white sun orchid (Thelymitra longifolia), green bird orchid (Chiloglottis cornuta), common onion orchid (Microtis unifolia), striped sun orchid (Thelymitra pulchella), and winika (Dendrobium cunninghamii)
