I've been trying to wrap my head around demi-fiendship. Maybe you can expound on this or point me towards some good meta?
In one sense, the protag is part demon for the mechanical purpose that the player has to support, rather than invent, a Reason. But I also feel like Nocturne is making a point that life as a human is different than demonic existence. Some days I think I grok that difference, other days I'm not sure really what they're trying to say the difference is.
Anyways, then we have the protagonist's in-between existence. And, well, unlike a human he can have magical affinity via magatama. I guess he might be influenced by the phases of kagatsuchi too? But most of the lore I've seen seems to imply it's all physical attributes, that he "retains his human heart." Can you think of any indication otherwise?
Thanks man
The one quote I always go back to is from the First Kalpa Loa:
It's probably my favorite "added lore" bit from the Maniacs version, as it really doesn't seem too egregious or contradictory to what had been established. So humans can change but demons can't--and since the Demi-fiend lives in a liminal state, he kind of exists outside of the rules of the "game," so to speak. The demon part of him voids out his ability to create his own Reason, but his "human heart" gives him a special role in sponsoring the "winning" Reason. He really is just all contrived gameplay mechanics when it's all laid out in this manner, as you implied. He's just a special lad, because he's you!
