a good twenty minutes goes by where maelle says nothing, simply watches. she can see the way he gets caught up in his head and she knows the shifting of his expressions when he's chewing a thought until it's nothing but sinewy bits caught between his teeth. the culprit this time isn't his work.
she'd wager it isn't even the paintress, tucked beneath her monolith. lurking in wait.
taking a breath, she untangles her limbs from their pretzel fold and steps out from the shaded patch of ruins beside a group of stubborn trees, pending to reach the sun. "if you try to think any harder, whatever brain you have left is going to come out of your head in the form of steam. do you even have much brain to spare for that?" it's a gentle sort of tease as she sidles up beside him, hands behind her back while she rocks up on tiptoe to knock him with her shoulder.
a pause, brief. allowing him no reprieve between jab and sincerity.
"i think you should talk to her," sophie, she means. because who else would have gustave worked up in such a way? "you know, long before she becomes nothing. but what do i know? i'm just a kid," the grin she sends his way is a mischievous one, albeit knowing. whatever happened between gustave and sophie isn't her business, but if anyone deserves some semblance of happily ever after ( until the sand runs dry in the hourglass, until the clock stops chiming, until the paintress rises to paint again ), it would be gustave. "or," she eases, side stepping away with a little sway and hop. "i could ask one of those five hundred women who make eyes at you like you're a puppy they need to take in what their intentions are with you. emma already gave me the go ahead and everything." @demainvient
