Postcard Postscripts: A Glimpse of 1960s Southsea: A Postcard Journey to the Solent
There is something so beautifully intimate about reading the casual thoughts of people from decades ago.
The front of this vintage card gives us a beautifully crisp, monochromatic look at a bustling Southseaโcomplete with the Rock Gardens, the Miniature Railway, and the Canoe Lake.
But the back is pure gold. Sent to a Mr. & Mrs. F. C. Plant in Birmingham on a dull but dry Thursday in 1960, Jean and Clive recount their day catching glimpses of royalty (the Royal Yacht Britannia) and eating lunch at the Hotel Parisien. They concluded their update with the ultimate roast of the local demographic: "P.S. We have not seen anyone here under about 60 today."
The petty elegance of a 1960s postcard postscript. We have no choice but to stan.
