Brothers, it is with deep regret, that I must report on the death of one of our Brothers from the 80′s, Timothy Delaney. One of the funnest guys to be with, he always had a smile on his face and was always laughing. His father, John Delaney, was also a Delta Sig at LMU, back in the 60′s. The picture above is a detail from a pic from the Carnation Ball on May 2, 1986; this pic epitomized Tim’s spirit for sure. Rest In Peace, Brother Tim.

Timothy John Delaney, was born on April 29, 1963, in Pasadena, California, to John Francis Delaney and Gloria Aurora Gutierrez-Delaney (deceased, January 12, 2009), the first of three boys. He passed away in the arms of his wife, Anita, along with his family around him on February 6, 2019. Tim struggled with medical issues and it’s complications from it shortly after a fall at home, two years ago, that left him with a traumatic brain injury.
Tim is survived by his wife, Anita, their three children, Sabrina (18), Sean (15) and Savannah (12); his father, John; and two brothers and their spouses, Tom & Cindy and Kevin n& Kim; and 3 nephews and 2 nieces. Tim grew up in Pasadena, CA where he attended Assumption of the BVM Catholic School and La Salle High School. During high school, Tim excelled on the cross-country and track teams and took on a number of roles in the high school musicals.
He attended Loyola Marymount University where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He graduated in 1986 with a BS in Biology and received his DDS from the USC School of Dentistry in 1990.
In 1994, Tim took over one of the first dental practices in Newport Beach, which originated in the 1950’s, from his senior partner, Dr. William O. Muff. He was constantly updating the practice with the latest procedures but always made patient care his first concern. His patients were very dear to him as well as his staff and they became like family. He loved being on the cutting edge of dentistry specializing in crown and bridge, sedation dentistry, cosmetic dentistry and TMJ disorder. His reputation grew to be very well respected among his peers and patients alike. In April 2016, Tim sold his practice to pursue other entrepreneurial ventures within dentistry.
Tim believed in working hard and playing hard and was always very active with his kids and his family life. When he was out of the office, Tim would either be surfing, biking, hiking snowboarding, or traveling the world with Anita and their three children or with friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the greater dental community and, of course, those he shared that special bond of the ocean and surfing.
Tim’s Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 16 at the Cypress Shores Park and Clubhouse, 3922 Calle Ariana, San Clemente, CA. A paddle out ceremony will be following afterwards, along with a reception.
