âAre you sure this is a good idea?â Robert looked at Mandy.
âWhat do you mean?â He asked, as they walked up a drive.
âItâs just that they might feelâŠâ Mandy looked for the right words, âcheated, since SDN has a worldwide exemption from the No Superhero Ban.â
âAnd employs people who are more than willing to ignore said ban.â Countered Robert, as they reached the door, âI thought Chase was meeting us here?â
âHeâs supposed to be.â Shrugged Mandy, before knocking on the door.
The door swung open and a girl with long black hair looked at them.
âHey, are your parents home?â Asked Robert, looking around.
âWho wants to know?â Asked the girl, after a moment.
âWeâre dispatchers for the SDN.â Answered Mandy, âThis is the Parr home, right?â
âViolet, whoâs at the door?â Came a womanâs voice, before a woman with auburn hair appeared behind the girl, âWhoâs this?â
âYouâre Helen Truax,â Asked Robert, looking at her, âright?â
Helen paled, before she tried to shut the door, which Robert prevented by putting himself between the door and the door frame.
âMaâam, trust us, weâre not here to fight.â Grunted Robert, âAt least give us five minutes.â
The pressure on the door lifted, allowing Robert to push the door open, âFive minutes.â
âWeâre dispatchers working for the SDN,â Said Mandy, choosing to leave out that she and Robert were also heroes, âweâre hopingââ
âWeâre not interested.â Helen shut the door in their faces.
âOkay, that wasnât five minutes.â Said Robert, looking at Mandy.
âWell, they do frequently relocate,â Sighed Mandy, walking back to Robertâs car, âit makes sense that theyâre jumpy.â
âYeah, I just didnât expect her to shut the door without hearing us out.â Mused Robert, as they got into the car, âDoes this mean we get to keep Mr Incredibleâs car?â
âNo, Robert.â

Helen kept herself busy with household chores, those dispatchers turning up to, presumably, recruit her and Bob for hero work.
âAnother save by Blonde Blazer and Mecha Man,â Helen glanced at the TV, which Dash probably left on before she sent him to do his homework, âDespite the scepticism of many, myself included, the SDN has restored the image of Superheroes around the world, with their latest team, the Z-Team, taking down Red Ring and Shroud in a climactic battle at the SDN headquarters in Torrence, a battle that saw the return of Mecha Man, as well as Track Star, loaned the powers of Blonde Blazer.â
Helen watched as footage from the battle played out, she recognised Punch Up, a villain that had almost beaten Bob back before the ban.
âThe Z-Team is the flagship result of SDNâs Pheonix Program,â Continued the newscaster, âthe most famous member being Prism, a pseudo influencer who live streams most of her patrols, and her regular torment of the Z-Teamâs dispatcher, who was in the news recent for being hit by a bus three times over a four-day period.â
The footage changed to one of the dispatchers that visited their house a couple of days ago, just as he crossed the road, and was âbodyâ slammed by a bus, sending him skidding a few feet, coming to a stop outside a door, before he got up, brushed himself off and nonchalantly sauntered into a bar. The scene then changed to Blonde Blazer, with Mecha Man crouching in front a child a few feet behind her.
âThe SDN has started to recruit older heroes, like Mr Incredible, Frozone, Elastigirl, Gazerbeam and Plasmabolt to work as dispatchers,â Said Blonde Blazer, âtheir experience would be a great benefit to the younger heroes.â
âI understand that some of SDNâs dispatchers are former heroes themselves?â
âAnd current,â Confirmed Blazer, âThose of us that have secret identities work for SDN at various levels.â
âMainly because the actual pay we get in the suit is crap!â Yelled Mecha Man, after heâd sent the child over to their mother, âI get paid twice as much while working in the basement!â
âWe actually work at SDN as civilians because itâs easier to respond to a crisis if we can reasonable explain why we vanished for a few hours.â Corrected Blazer, giving Mecha Man a look, âHe just likes to complain.â
âHow do they know if youâre telling the truth?â Asked reporter.
âWe use timesheets and track our comm links during the period in question,â Answered Mecha Man, âI did have to deal with one of mine going out for a sandwich while there was a fire going on downtown.â
âI understand that you work closely with the Z-Team?â The reporter redirected their attention to Mecha Man.
âI do,â Mecha Man looked slightly embarrassed, âAlthough⊠it is a bit weird to work with a guy I put behind bars⊠after I cut two of his fingers off.â
âYou also burnt off Flambaeâs eyebrows,â Added Blonde Blazer, âalthough that could be argued as self-defence.â
Helen put the laundry basket down and watched the rest of the interview, before deciding to bring the matter up with Bob that night.
I
âStill think this is a bad idea?â Asked Courtney, glancing at CoupĂ©.
âTheyâve been retired so long that they wonât know how to work the most basic of equipment.â Said Janelle, âHow did we get stuck with Gazerbeam of all people?â
âBecause Robert and Mandy were going to handle Lawsuit and Mrs Stretch Armstrong and Prism and Flambae got the only cool one?â Responded Courtney, getting a smirk.
âHeh, cool one.â Janelle chuckled to herself.
âSay, did Sam ever get back from that special assignment?â Asked Courtney, looking at Janelle.
âI know that both Mecha Man and Blonde Blazer have brought up their concerns.â Answered Janelle, âWaterboy and Phenomaman have been dispatched to look for him.â
âSomethings not right.â Said Courtney, âI donât know why, but my gutâs telling me somethingâs wrong.â
âItâs probably all those processed foods youâve been eating.â Responded Janelle, âItâs giving you indigestion.â
âAre you fucking--?â
âWeâre here.â Said Janelle, bringing the car to a stop.
âGreat.â Muttered Courtney, as the pair got out of the car and walked to the front door, âSo, howâre we doing this? Direct or acting like Jehovaâs Witnesses?â
Janelle raised her fist and knocked on the door. After a couple of minutes, the door opened and a older, somewhat muscular man with blond hair stood in front of them.
âCan I help you?â Asked the man, looking between Courtney and Janelle.
ââŠSimon Paladino?â Asked Courtney, after a moment.
âNo, Iâm his partner, Jack,â Said the man, looking at them, âheâs away on a business trip.â
Janelle frowned, before Courtney gasped, âGamma Jack.â
Jackâs face started to sour, âIâm not interested in talking to journalists.â
âWeâre with the SDN.â Janelle, before looking at Courtney.
When the other woman didnât move, Janelle flicked a knife at her, jolting Courtney out of her silent hero worship, âOh, right.â
Courtney vanished, getting Jack to raise his eyebrows.
âI can see where youâre standing on the grass.â Said Jack, as Courtney reappeared, âWhich youâre not supposed to be standing on, by the way.â
âSorry, you were my favourite hero back when I was a kid.â Confessed Courtney, âBroke my arm in three places after I jumped of my house roof trying to fly.â
Jack frowned, before he looked at Janelle, âIs she usually like this?â
âNo,â Answered Janelle, âthis is new.â
I
âI hate being incognito.â Grumbled Alice, as Chad knocked on the door.
âWell, you were warned that we had to keep a low profile and you still chose to come.â Said Chad, before impatiently knocking on the door again.
âAlright, alright, I heard you the first time!â Yelled a manâs voice from inside the home, before the door swung open and a black man looked at them, âCan I help you?â
âMr Lucius Best?â Asked Alice, looking at him.
âAnd if I am?â Asked the man, giving them a suspicious look.
âWeâre with the SDN, who want to recruit you as a dispatcher.â Said Chad, âWe, being actual heroes, took some valuable time from our incredibly pack schedules in the hopes of recruiting you.â
âYou really want to be here, donât you?â Asked Lucius, looking at Chad, âChase has already convinced me.â
âIâm sorry, what?â Alice blinked, before Chase hobbled out of the sitting room.
âWell, you two were sitting on your fucking asses, so Blazer sent me to do the shit you two motherfuckers were supposed to be doing.â Said Chase, âSince youâre here, you can drive me to Robert, seeing a friendly face might make the Parrâs more agreeable.â
