Dagens ord ( Word of the day): Ă„ skjĂžnne - to understand, to get
Thereâs also the more general "Ă„ forstĂ„" (like "verstehen" in German) meaning to understand - I'm not 100 % clear on the differences, but it feels like "skjĂžnne" is a bit less formal and more used in "getting" something in an intuitive, gut-feeling kind of way than intellectually comprehending something.
It's also used in conversation the way you'd say "I see", to let the other person know you're following what they're saying, like "Ja, skjĂžnner" ("Yeah, I see").
Today's example: "TĂžff i pysjamas" by DeLillos ("TĂžff" is a norwegianification of "tough" - the meaning of it has shifted in the direction of "cool", though)

Translation:
Sometimes I'm so stupid That when I look at myself in the mirror I get irritated And I look stupid in my pyjamas (literally it's "I get stupid in pyjamas", the verb "Ă„ bli" is usually "to become/to get", but I'd translate it like this) And I look stupid in my coat And when I go on the bus Everybody gets that: Here comes stupid-stupid-stupid (basically) (It doesnât really translate well... In the original it's kind of a sweet and silly song about how you just feel differently about yourself on different days and you feel like everyone sees you that way too - the two other verses describe the same situation but with a different mindset, feeling cool or feeling like nothing)
