almost delirious with pain. drinking mugwort and chamomile tea. and I celebrated deipnon last night which was nice, until I turned around after giving my offering accidentally and stared into the face of death. kidding but not really.
didn't get anything done but I did get a gig lined up for later in the month. I'll probably get $100 from it or so.
people are reblogging my medical vent posts which is surprising. I guess it shouldn't be. I never see people talk about mecfs anywhere.

Hekatean Deipnon for the hellenic month of Thargelion (May-June). Libations of mugwort tea and olive oil. Offerings of bread, garlic, onion, lettuce and hard boiled eggs.
We had a brief storm this afternoon where I, being a totally normal person screamed in excitement and put my shoes on and went to run outside in the rain.
.... And I totally forgot the laundry was on the line to dry ... So it got to stay out to dry again.
Tonight was my second deipnon! Last month it was very windy. With the earlier storm it was even windier. But the electricity in the air is fantastic. I'm watching the lighting from my bed right now before I head to sleep. I have a cat on my feet.

I want to start celebrating Deipnon so I'm making a list of wildlife-safe foods that can be left at crossroads or cemeteries.
Feel free to add on to this!
🖤 Birdseed (most bird seed is treated so it won't grow anything, but double check so you don't add invasive plants to an area)
🖤 Unflavoured meat or fish (boneless!)
🖤 Mealworms (need to be soaked first)
🖤 Wet cat/dog food
🖤 Fat balls (in winter when food is scarce)
🖤 Mixed nuts (non-salted!)
🖤 Grated/Chopped apples (Occasional, some wildlife can get drunk off fermented apples)
🖤 Grated/Chopped carrots (ensure any produce is pesticide-free)
🖤 Raw mushrooms (Always check and if unsure, stick to store-bought white cap)
🖤 Most veggies (avoid bulb veg like onions, leeks & chives, can be toxic)
🖤 Berries (Same as apples)
🖤 Hard-boiled eggs (Good source of protein in moderation, for many animals, including birds if chopped or crushed.)
🖤 Crushed eggshells (good source of calcium for many critters)
🖤 Cuttlefish bone
~ This post was getting really long so please please please read below the cut if you plan to use it ~
As a general rule of thumb, you should avoid cooked, baked or seasoned food if you're leaving offerings outside as a lot of human food is not safe for animal consumption.
*amending to say that I live in the UK. More specifically, the north of England. Whilst I would imagine that the diets of mammals and birds may be similar enough, I still urge people to do some extra research in to your local fauna.
I'd rather edit this directly than add new information on to reblogs in case people only come across this version.
*citrus is toxic to snails just like onion, so avoid using orange peels.
Consider where you plan to do this. I've since been advised that throwing anything on the ground in a wild area can still be a bad idea because it can introduce invasive pests (if you must, then wash any produce you plan to use).
Leaving food out and allowing wildlife to eat it sounds nice in theory but after looking in to this some more it can easily create issues like dependency on humans or overpopulation in one area. It might be best to just keep most offerings indoors. If you wanted to do this for Deipnon like me, then consider returning the next day to remove the offering and disposing of it yourself at home. I'm planning to get a food waste bin so it can at least be used for compost.
You could leave offerings by your front door or gate (where your property connects to the street, as this is also a crossroad). Just be mindful that this could lead larger animals like foxes to learn if you regularly leave food outside by a road... with cars...
I call to lovely Hekate Einodia, Sacred Mother of the Crossroads,
she who saunters along Sky, Earth, and Sea, crowned in stars and gowned in saffron,
Maiden of Funerals in joyous revelry among the lively spirits of the dead,
the Daughter of headstrong Perses, she who indulges in venison and solitude,
Maiden of Night, Protectress of Dogs, revered Queen of Witchcraft,
riding forth by bull-drawn carriage, she who guards the Kosmic keys,
she of utmost authority, Nurturer of Children, firmly gazing from the mountains!
I beseech you, Sacred Maiden, attend and bless my hallowed prayers,
and accept my offerings with graciousness so that I may walk steadfast in your Light!
