Gather around, dear children, and let me tell you a tale.
A tale of a man in a non sensical, chaotic world.
A new room has been finished at the facility I work at. It’s supposed to be a kind of ‘break’ or ‘study’ room. There are three grand living walls filled with a plethora of flora (it’s quite elegant, I must say). There are plenty of tables and chairs for people to interact and rest between projects and deadlines.
And in the middle of this lovely room is a kind of clock tower, with two faces.
And what an enchanting clock it would be
If it told the time
‘Oh, is the clock broken?’ I hear you ask.
No. No, my dear reader. It is NOT broken. It CANNOT be broken because it POSSESSES no GEARS.
It is hollow inside.
It is a decorative clock.
In the middle of this ‘relaxing, restorative room’ is a clock
That does not tell time
I cannot think of a single MORE ASININE thing than a DECORATIVE CLOCK.
I damn well had a heart attack when my coworker told me it didn’t, nay COULDN’T, work.
And I’m not the only one. Imagine putting a fake clock in a room full of intellectuals. Everyone is going insane. Some are in denial, saying there must be a mistake, it MUST be broken! Others are angry. Some are bargaining…
We are collectively experiencing the five stages of grief at my work place.
HR is telling everyone it’s simply a pretty thing to look at and to calm down.
Clearly, they are high on Windex.
Some of us are planning a rebellion to tear it down.
I shall keep you updated, dear reader.
