It's just another #MarbledMonday, woah, woah...
This swirly French Curl is one of seven specimens bound into James Nicholson's 1856 edition of A Manual of the Art of Bookbinding, and is making our Monday a little less manic.

Today I’m looking at paper I’ve saved from @vintage_paper_co_uk. This decorated paper was printed on paper waste, and you can see the type below the colors. I’ve seen some historic examples where this has been used on covers. Hmmm, a pamphlet cover or over hard boards? #bookarts #bookbinding #decoratedpaper #printeddesign #atlantabookarts (at Big River Bindery) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-XQ8VoJpbD/?igshid=k4d9rzu4o0gq

End of the year always feels a bit like a blur, right?
This whirlwind of #endoftheweekendpapers is from a sample book of paste papers produced by Bird & Bull Press. TGIF!
"I don't care if Monday's blue..."
Actually, we do care, especially when it comes to this brilliant blue marbled binding and complimentary blue marbled endpapers! (Not pictured: blue sprinkled edges and a blue silk bookmark. Swoon!)
This style of leather marbling is known as Valencia marbling, a variation of Spanish marbling known for its bright, vibrant colors.

This week’s almanac is actually the same edition as the one we shared last week, but the owner of this one (Naomi McClenachan) chose not to have it rebound, instead keeping the original decorated paper wrappers. A good choice, we think.
Bailey’s Pocket Almanac. Philadelphia: Francis Bailey, [1786].
We are loving the dentelles surrounding these bright and shimmery #endoftheweekendpapers, found in a binding by the Brooklyn bindery Frank J. Herzog & Co. The volume, an 1836 edition of the Charter of the City of New-York, was bound by Herzog for Dr. George R. Brush in February of 1888. Luckily, Dr. Brush saved the receipt, which not only identifies the binder, but also shows that he paid $3.00 for the binding - full red morocco, with the top edge gilt.

It's been a snowy, slushy week here in Philadelphia, so here are some bright #endoftheweekendpapers to usher in the weekend. Huzzah!
