Attention all kawaii lovers and purikura app enthusiasts!
- DecoPic is CLOSING DOWN -
Their official statement, found in the latest version of the app and within in their App Store description:
“To our valued customers,
An announcement and an apology regarding the cancellation of an application
----------------------------------------
Yahoo! JAPAN has decided to cancel all applications that don't meet its general requirements.
Therefore, the “ DECOPIC ” application will no longer be offered by the end of 2016.
We apologize from the bottom of our hearts to all those who have loved it for a long time.
*Until the application is uninstalled, you may continue to use it.
*Support for DECO SHOP will end on March 31st.“
Unfortunately DecoPic’s situation looks non-negotiatable and the decision seems final.
DecoPic is one of the world’s most professional and popular purikura apps available to people outside of Japan, allowing you to decorate your photos with cute stickers, text, frames and filters. It has a huge variety of sticker packs available to download in all kinds of styles, including officially-licensed Sanrio stickers. It has had over 30 million downloads since it was first created.
How to keep using DecoPic after its services close down:
- DO NOT UNINSTALL THE APP from your phone, period. There will be no way to get it back. Keep it on there forever.
- Update the app before the deadline, so that you have the latest version.
- You have until March 31st to purchase and download any new sticker packs you want from the DecoPic Store. Then it closes for good.
- Check through your personal sticker collection. If you notice any missing sticker packs that you remember previously purchasing/downloading, re-download them from the DecoPic store before March 31st (you won’t have to re-purchase them).
- Any candy currency you’ve earned in the app will be unusable after March 31st. It would be wise to purchase as many candy-paid sticker packs as you can before the deadline so that you are not wasting your candy.
- Just in case, backup all your phone’s apps to your computer.
Please consider sending the DecoPic creators a message through the Contact option within the app! Let them know how much you have enjoyed using their app, or let them know how much the cancellation notice has upset you, or even consider giving them some advice about how to meet Yahoo Japan’s new terms (if you’re tech-savvy enough).
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, DecoPic fans! :( Enjoy it while it lasts.
