despite having many family members, caterina is not particularly close with any of them as all the amell children were sent to separate boarding schools as soon as they were old enough (litcherally six years old) at the behest of their grandparents. 

cat attended a boarding school in paris from ages 6-13 and ages 13-18 were spent in milan. only two months of every year were spent at home with her parents and siblings. many letters were written

she developed a deep love of reading and learning at these schools, spending all her time in their libraries. 

when cat returned home for the summer one year, she learned from her father that her mother had disappeared months earlier. they hadn’t succeeded in finding her and they never would. cat has opted to believe that her mother was so distraught by never truly knowing any of her children, that she left so she wouldn’t have to bear the reality of it. 

during her last year of school, she decided to apply to universities/colleges in small-ish towns because her home wasn’t much of a home anyway and she wanted to make a new one somewhere she felt like she could connect with the community

lo and behold, decimation !

she’s been in decimation for five years, completing both her bachelor’s and master’s at ccoud.

EDUCATION: high school ; ivy league (undergraduate degree in english literature; master’s degree in comparative medieval studies; phd specialising in medieval mythology specifically surrounding lycanthropy and ‘madness’)

SKILLS: kind and empathetic; an excellent teacher more for this reason than for any ability to stick to the curriculum. surprisingly dry and sarcastic. attractive when he wants to be, and occasionally even magnetic. terrible cook, alright dancer, horrible singer.

HEADCANONS:

CANON. everything we already know except also he’s gay. DECIMATION.  Remus never thought he wanted to teach, until he was doing his MA and became a learning support officer for several of the undergrads. He even put it off for a while; his mother was an art teacher, and he had always seen it as sucking the life out of her, even more than his constant illnesses as a child had. But even after doing his PHD, the desire still lingered, so Remus moved to Decimation to join the ranks of the damned: high school teachers.

When he’s not trying to inspire uninspirable kids, Remus can be found wandering the woods in the middle of the night (his insomnia is chronic and incurable, especially around certain times of the month), frequenting local coffee shops because of his inhumane resistance to caffeine, or nose-deep in some dusty tome in the library. He always tells himself that he won’t teach forever - just until he finishes his book - but frankly even he’s starting to doubt his lie.

HEADCANONS: Enid and Aaron were like siblings and she looks up to him, as a child she was the tree climber and a bundle of energy, she wears a black choker to cover up the scar from her murder, loves comic books, favorite food is spaghetti, interested in photography, became a nurse after she was in her own timeline and some memory remains of that. Plus she wants to help people out as much as she can to do something with her life.

HEADCANONS: gi hun is an eccentric man who has had troubles in the past with gambling and going into debt. however, as luck struck him - something he still feels questionable and disturbed about - he won the lottery and was able to pay off his debts and attempt to help his ailing mother. unfortunately, she passed - and with his only child, a daughter, moving to the united states with his ex-wife and her husband, gi hun felt he had nothing left for him in south korea and thus picked up and moved to america. witty, funny, and kinda dorky - gi hun somehow managed to find decimation and despite having a decent sum of cash, he’s still chosen to take a job in retail as a cashier for the local chocolate shop. (in which he’s had his fill of chocolates and thinks he can never eat more).

HEADCANONS: yelena is known in this life for her intense desire for rebellion - always moving against the status quo, for better and worse. though she’s intelligent and could have continued her education, she chose an opposite direction. as much as she loves her sister and family, she strives to be different and not just part of a system - like the life that lurks in her dreams.

WHAT THEY’RE PLANNING TO DO IN DECIMATION: yelena was russian born, but with no memory of her biological family or why she was unable to remain with them, her life with natasha and their adoptive parents is all she’s known, though they were always honest about the adoption. they travelled often and eventually settled down. she took up gymnastics from a young age and seemed to take well to most activities. admittedly, she’s always been one to not dwell on any hobby too long, though, with the exception of her penchant for getting into trouble. despite that, she’s stayed close with her sister, only drifting apart every so often but always coming back together. she now lives with her in decimation, working at the bar owned by dean winchester - whom she has a complicated though deep friendship with.

HEADCANONS: klaus is the type that would smile at you just as soon as he’d stab you in the back. not known for being the nicest, he does down within have a large heart that knows deep compassion and love. after years of betrayal and abuse from his parents and the knowledge of his birth, klaus always felt like the outsider of such a large family - only finding comfort in his older brother elijah and his younger sister rebekah. having been a social pariah most of his life, klaus stuck to the shadows when he could - though he never missed an opportunity to keep the eye of the room on him in order to display his wealth or skill.  he only recently found himself and his worth, and in that he found caroline forbes. falling in a storybook romance with her, and devoting his entire being to her - klaus would stop at nothing to ensure she has the best life possible.

HEADCANONS:

CANON. John was 18 in 1914; of course he signed up, worked as a medic in the trenches, and served at the Somme, Verdun, and  Passchendaele. It’s mostly his medical skills that stop Evie, Rick and Ardeth from ending up on the radar of the British govt every time they nearly get disembowled by the undead.

DECIMATION. He never knew what he wanted to do with his life, except that seeking adventure, according to his father, was a foolproof plan for any man; the army, which approached him some time after sixth form, when he was floating about spending his inheritance, seemed like the best place to find it. He was wrong, of course; John is rarely right, something that most people don’t notice because he’s so charming about it.

Leaving was a huge leap. The trauma bonding is real and the sense of being useful (something that, though he’d never tell Evie, he’d never felt at home in London) is an almost unbreakable thread that ties every medic to the army - but he was sick to the stomach of it all. Adventure, as it turned out, looked very much like war, and where had adventure led his parents anyway? Into a burning plane, that was where. So he served his final deployment and moved to the States to be closer to Evie and start some sort of new life.

So far this new life seems to consist of brutally long shifts and depressing interactions with the American health insurance system, along with wasting time picking up men in bars - though that’s not a change from London - and irritating Evie by teaching Alex bad habits. He’s an alright brother (by some standards) and an interesting friend (by many others) as long as you don’t give him any money for dubious “investments” and keep one hand on your expensive watch.

WHAT THEY’RE PLANNING TO DO IN DECIMATION: Work, make a life for herself

LIFE IN DECIMATION

She got a degree in philosophy

She grew up in a family of acrobats here too

She moved to Decimation so that she could spend some time spreading her wings, as she’s spent so much of her life with her family

She’s working at the Bar and Grill, and trying to figure out what exactly she wants to do next

Her dreams are vivid, and she remembers certain things very clearly. Some days she subconsciously wants to pray to her Saints, but then catches it and reminds herself that that was just a made up religion in her dreams/nightmares

She spends a lot of her free time on the roof of her apartment complex, and she enjoys the additional challenge of climbing out of her window and getting to the roof that way
