                    there  were  likely  to  be  many  secrets  left  undiscovered  in  jason’s  life,  the  newest  of  which  happened  to  be  the  strange  twist  of  fate  that  had  planted  him  squarely  in  the  path  of ...  well,  himself.  eyes  not  yet  haunted,  skin  not  yet  burnt,  future  not  yet  ashen.  left  with  no  explanation,  no  way  home.  but  it’s  not  as  if  it’d  taken  long  for  jason  to  realize  he  didn’t ...  want  to  leave.  there  was  an  unspoken  chance  here,  and  jason  had  long  since  left  behind  any  notion  that  this  was  about  saving  himself.  this  was  about  saving  t.j.,  about  giving  a  young  boy  the  opportunity  to  see  a  tomorrow  jason  never  did.

                    and  he  hadn’t  actually  meant  for  the  kid  to  find  out  what  awaited  him;  hell,  he’d  just  been  content  to  wait  in  quiet  for  the  time  to  intervene,  so  that  the  younger  would  never  have  to  be  burdened  with  that  caliber  of  foreknowledge.  but  as  often  happens  for  jason,  what  he  wants  is  never  usually  what  happens.  and  the  only  thing  to  do  then  was  to  tell  the  kid  what  to  look  out  for;  to  inform  him  as  best  the  vigilante  could  so  that  he  wouldn’t  find  himself  in  death’s  crosshairs.

                    and  now  it’s  here.  the  countdown’s  begun.  jason  hasn’t  slept  in  over  36  hours,  but  no  part  of  his  body  screams  at  him  for  rest  --  or  if  it  does,  he’s  grown  deaf  to  the  plea,  focus  so  crucially  pinpointed  on  this  singular  task.  they  just  have  to  get  through  the  next  24  hours.  just  24  hours  and  they  should  be  out  of  the  woods.  so  far,  everything  was  going  according  to  plan.

                    which  meant  it  was  the  perfect  time  for  something  to  go  wrong.  his  phone  pings  with  a  new  text.  two  simple  words.

                    [ sms ]:  i’m sorry.  

                    the  immediate  seize  of  panic  that  grips  his  chest  is  unrelenting,  and  jason  swears  every  manner  of  curse  he  knows  under  his  breath  as  he  starts  moving.  “ he  didn’t,  tell  me  he  didn’t -- ”  already  pulling  on  his  gear  even  as  he  waits  for  the  gps  location  trace  to  come  back.

                    it  does.

                    “ fuck!! ”  jason’s  out  the  door  and  chasing  down  the  first  pilot  in  his  contacts  list  before  the  location  even  flashes  a  name  across  the  screen.  he  doesn’t  need  the  name.  he  knows  those  coordinates.  and  he  knows  himself.  he  knows  where  t.j.  is.

𝙷𝙴  𝙳𝙾𝙴𝚂𝙽'𝚃  𝚀𝚄𝙸𝚃𝙴  𝙴𝚇𝙿𝙴𝙲𝚃  𝙷𝙴𝚁  𝚃𝙾  𝚆𝙰𝙻𝙺  𝙸𝙽𝚃𝙾  𝚃𝙷𝙸𝚂  𝙿𝙰𝚁𝚃𝙸𝙲𝚄𝙻𝙰𝚁 diner  at  this  hour.  nor  does  he  expect  her  to  sit  across  from  him  and  cut  off  a  piece  of  apple  pie  he  had  just  ordered.  (  it’s  been  a  long  day  and  he’s  craving  sugar,  don’t  judge  him  ). confusion  flashes  across  his  features,  brows  knitting  together  and  making  it  seem  as  though  he’s  almost  insulted  at  the  fact  that  she’s  critiquing  the  pie.

another  forkful  of  pie  disappears  in  his  mouth  as  he  pointedly  ignores  the  comment. ‘ all  right,  bobby  flay,  did  you  come  here  t’  film  an  episode  of  chopped  or  did  you  find  out  what  happened  to  that  group  of  girls  i’ve  been  tracking  ? ’   one  of  the  waitresses  stops  by  the  table  to  place  a  second  fork  on  the  plate  and  jason  gives  lois  a  pointed  look  before  he  pushes  the  plate  forward  so  that  she  can  grab  the  fork  if  she  wants  to. ‘   you  want  some  coffee  too  while  you’re  at  it  ?  ’

          “ TOILET PAPER GOES OVER !!! OVER !!! NOT UNDER !!! ”

      "  it looks like you're in trouble there. can i help?  "
