āMy advice to other disabled people would be, concentrate on things your disability doesnāt prevent you doing well, and donāt regret the things it interferes with. Donāt be disabled in spirit as well as physically.āĀ -Stephen Hawking āā Iām guilty of using the term āDifferently Abledā in the past. I recently learned itās offensive because it implies that disabled people lack āable bodiesā or the ability to use their bodies well. So I wanted to make a shirt for those who identify as ādisabled.ā The word doesnāt have to be a scarlet letter; it could be a title of power. In this world thatās built for neurotypicals and those without disabilities, consider the strength that a ādisabledā person possesses. To live with SPD in an environment with bright lights and loud sounds. To communicate while deaf even though most people donāt know ASL. To know your surroundings even when blind. To make this world accessible - even when the opportunities are inaccessible. To me, thereās nothing more powerful than that. So, I designed this āPhenomenally Disabledā t-shirt. In the word āDisabled,ā thereās an āIā that uses the infinity symbol, an āAā thatās in ASL, an āLā thatās in Braille, and a āDā that uses the disabled symbol. Like Mr. Hawking said, āDonāt be disabled in spirit as well as physically.ā āā Description: Picture 1 - A girl in a wheelchair wearing a black t-shirt that reads, āPhenomenally Disabled.ā Picture 2 - Front facing picture of the t-shirt. #InvisibleIllness #DeafTalent #ActuallyAutistic #DisaBodyPosi #AbleismExists #TheBarriersWeFace #neurodiversity #disabled #disability #wheelchair #disabilityawareness #chronicillness #inclusion #love #accessibility #paraplegic #motivation #amputee #cerebralpalsy #nevergiveup #accessible https://www.instagram.com/p/CMh6eUcBghP/?igshid=1v2qpqfm6sdgv
