Everything is dark. Hard. Cold.
Then crack.
A sharp sound. Light. Air. You fall to your knees, coughing, stone dust all over your skin.
āCareful there, Y/N.ā says a voice you know too well.
You look up fast. White spiky hair. Sharp green eyes. A small grin.
āā¦Senku?ā you whisper.
āTen billion percentā he answers āWelcome back to the land of the living.ā
You blink, confused āWaitāhowāwhat happened? Where are we?ā
He hands you a really useless dress to cover yourself āHumanity got turned to stone. Long nap. I woke up first. You were my classmate, remember? The one who always drew manga characters during science lectures?ā
You let out a breathy laugh āYou said that was a waste of brain cells.ā
Senku smirks āYeah, and now those brain cells are my new entertainment department. I revived you because people need fun as much as they need food.ā
He leads you to the village. The air smells clean and wild. People wear furs, not clothes. Everyone stares when they see you.
āWhoa,ā says Chrome, eyes wide, āAnother one from the stone world!ā
āYeahā Senku corrects āShe knows about comics, anime, musicāall the stuff we lost. Sheās gold for rebuilding culture.ā
A man with a spear stands by the gate. Green eyes. Serious face. Kinro.
You stop. Heās tall, the sunlight making his eyes shine even brighter.
Senku says, āKinro, this is Y/N. Sheās with me.ā
Kinro stares for a second too long, then turns away quickly āUnderstood.ā
You smile shyly āHi! Uh, nice to meet you.ā
He clears his throat āYou⦠should get proper clothes.ā
You laugh a little āYeah, everyone keeps saying that.ā
Senku grins āHeās just being polite. Donāt mind him, heās allergic to fun.ā
Kinro frowns but doesnāt answer. You notice his ears turning pink.
That night, you sit by the fire telling stories.
āSo in this show,ā you explain, waving your hands, āthe main character can stretch like rubberāā
āImpossible!ā Chrome interrupts āYouāre making this up!ā
āNope! Itās fiction!ā you say, laughing. Everyone joins in. Even Kohaku giggles.
Kinro stands nearby, pretending to be on guard duty again. His eyes drift to you every few seconds.
Kohaku leans close to him āYou keep watching her.ā
He stiffens āIām watching everyone.ā
She smirks āSure you are.ā
You notice him after a while and wave āHey, Green Eyes! Come join us!ā
āIām fine here.ā he says quickly.
āAw, come on,ā you tease āYou canāt guard the fire from that far away.ā
He hesitates, then walks closer. You grin up at him āSee? Thatās better.ā
Kinro doesnāt reply, but the corner of his mouth almost, almost moves.
And when your laughter fills the air again, he lets himself listen.
Itās been a few months and now youāre part of the village⦠clothes, work, friends, even a small hut near the lab.
You help Senku and Gen with new ideas: music boxes, board games, little shows to make people laugh.
Life feels simple but warm.
One afternoon, you sit near the lab, sorting papers when Gen leans on the table with his usual grin.
āSo, Senku,ā he starts, voice playful, āIāve been thinking. Out of all the statues in the world, why her? Why did you choose to wake up our dear Y/N first?ā
Senku doesnāt even look up āBecause sheās useful. She knows modern culture, media, human psychology, entertainment. Itās efficient.ā
Gen laughs āEfficient, eh? Or maybe⦠personal?ā
Senku raises a brow āPersonal?ā
Gen smirks wider āDid you, my scientific friend, perhaps have a crush on her back in the old world?ā
Senku snorts āPlease. Ten billion percent no.ā
You look up from your work and roll your eyes āSenku isnāt one to think about things like that.ā
Senku nods āExactly. My love is for science.ā
Gen turns to you āAnd what about you, Y/N? Did you like him?ā
You laugh, shaking your head āNah. Not my type at all.ā
Gen gasps dramatically āOh? Then who is your type?ā
You grin āHmm⦠someone calm, brave, maybe a little shy.ā
Gen wiggles his eyebrows āOho, interesting~ā
Not far away, two guards stand by the village gate⦠Kinro and Ginro. They hear everything.
Ginroās jaw drops āDid you hear that, brother?! She said brave and shy! That could be me! Maybe I should ask her out. Iāll start by bringing her a flower!ā
He starts to move, eyes sparkling.
Kinro blocks him with the end of his spear āDonāt.ā
āEh? Why not?ā
āShe doesnāt need your nonsense.ā
Ginro pouts āYouāre just jealous.ā
Kinroās eyes narrow slightly āYouāll embarrass yourself. And her.ā
Ginro sighs but still grins āHuh, youāre blushing, Kinro. Maybe youāre the shy one she likes.ā
Kinro turns his face away, silent.
Ginro laughs loudly āI knew it! My serious brother has a crush!ā
āFocus on guard duty.ā Kinro says, voice firm. But his grip on the spear tightens a little.
Back near the lab, Gen keeps teasing āSee? Even she admits Senkuās not her type. Maybe she already has someone in mind.ā
Senku shrugs āAs long as it doesnāt distract from her work, she can like whoever she wants.ā
You smile quietly, eyes drifting toward the gate where the green-eyed guard stands tall and still.
āYeah,ā you say softly āWhoever she wants.ā
The sun is high. Youāre walking around the village with a sort of self made notebook, jotting ideas.
āOkay,ā you mutter, āI need a new game for the villagers⦠something fun but easy to teachā¦ā
You stop at the forge, at the well, at the bakery, asking everyone questions. Everyone laughs, gives suggestions. But the last stop is⦠the gate.
The two brothers, Kinro and Ginro, stand tall as always.
You clear your throat āHi! Mind if I ask you a few questions for a new game?ā
Ginro immediately perks up āQuestions for a game? Ooh, maybe the prize is⦠a date with me!ā
You blink āUh⦠what?ā
Ginro grins āYeah! I could even bring flowers! Iām good at flowers. And⦠maybe a hug at the end?ā
Kinroās jaw tightens. He doesnāt say anything, just stands still.
You tilt your head towards Kinro, grin slowly, and your eyes flash a little⦠dangerous āAm I allowed to punch him?ā
Kinroās voice is calm āYes.ā
Your fist moves fast. Smack. Right in Ginroās shoulder.
āYOW!ā Ginro screams, hopping on one foot, then stomps off, crying and muttering about flowers and unfair treatment.
You cross your arms, grinning āWell. Thatās done.ā
Kinro stares at you. He doesnāt smile. He doesnāt speak. He just watches.
You tilt your head āYouāre quiet. I like that. Calm people are⦠easy to talk to.ā
He looks away āā¦Iām listening.ā
āGood enough,ā you say cheerfully. You sit down on a rock near the gate, scribbling in your notebook āSo⦠you two are brothers, right?ā
Kinro nods once āā¦Yes.ā
āWhich oneās older?ā
Kinro frowns āā¦Me.ā
āAh. That explains the serious face.ā You grin āThe younger oneās trouble, huh?ā
His lips twitch. He doesnāt answer.
You scribble a little in your notebook, then look up āSo⦠whatās it like, guarding the village every day? Boring?ā
āThatās fair,ā you say, nodding āBut hey, I bet you see a lot of interesting stuff too.ā
He tilts his head slightly āā¦Maybe.ā
You grin, leaning closer āYou know, I like learning about people like you. Quiet, strong⦠types. Makes me feel like I can learn everything if I try.ā
He glances at you, briefly meeting your eyes āā¦Why are you smiling like that?ā
āBecause I like talking to you,ā you say simply āYou donāt have to talk much. Iāll do enough for both of us.ā
Kinro doesnāt answer. He doesnāt move. But you see his eyes soften a little.
You scribble another note in your notebook, then glance at him āSo⦠friends?ā
āā¦If you insist.ā he says finally, voice low but steady.
You grin wider āGood. Friends it is.ā
The two of you sit there, quiet but comfortable. No one else around. Just you⦠and Kinro.
The morning sun is soft and warm. Youāre carrying a basket of small stones and sticks, materials for the new game youāre designing.
You find Kinro standing by the edge of the village, sharpening his spear. Green eyes catch the light.
āHey,ā you call cheerfully āI need your help with something. I promise it wonāt be dangerous.ā
He glances at you but doesnāt smile āā¦What kind of help?ā
āIām making a game,ā you explain, waving a stick āSomething where villagers have to move stones in patterns without dropping them. Could use a strong guard to⦠test it.ā
Kinro raises an eyebrow āā¦Testing, huh?ā
āYep! You can show me if itās too hard or too easy.ā you say, bouncing on your toes.
He finally nods āā¦Fine. Lead the way.ā
As you explain the rules, you notice his attention on you, subtle but constant. He doesnāt say much, but you donāt mind.
āSo,ā you say casually, āhave you ever played anything like this before?ā
āā¦No,ā Kinro admits āā¦I mostly spar or guard.ā
āPerfect,ā you grin āYouāre my first official player!ā
He stiffens slightly, then picks up a stone. You hand him another.
āHere,ā you say āTry balancing it. Donāt drop it.ā
He frowns, concentrating āā¦This is⦠harder than it looks.ā
You laugh āTold you! I designed it to make people think, not just run around.ā
After a few minutes, heās doing surprisingly well. You clap softly āWow, Kinro! Youāre actually good at this. Maybe youāre smarter than you let on.ā
He flushes just a little, lowering his gaze āā¦Iām focused.ā
āFocused⦠and cute.ā you tease lightly, nudging him with your shoulder.
He freezes, eyes widening slightly. āā¦I⦠am notā¦ā
āShh,ā you grin āYou donāt have to say it. I know.ā
The two of you sit for a while after the game, quietly arranging stones and sticks. You tell small stories, funny things from the modern world, silly TV shows, games you love. Kinro listens, occasionally asking short questions.
āYou really like all this⦠entertainment stuff?ā he asks finally.
āOf course!ā you say āPeople need fun, even if itās just a simple game or a funny story. Thatās how you make life brighter.ā
He nods slowly āā¦I understand.ā
At one point, a stone rolls toward the edge of the cliff by accident. You jump to grab it, but Kinroās hand is already there, steady, stopping it.
āThanksā you say softly, holding his hand for just a second before letting go.
He doesnāt look at you. He doesnāt smile. But his grip lingers a little longer than it should have.
You grin at him āSee? Youāre already part of the game⦠and part of the fun.ā
He clears his throat āā¦I⦠guess so.ā
By the time the sun is starting to set, you two sit side by side, stones and sticks scattered around. No one else is nearby.
āYou know,ā you say casually, āI like talking to you. Even if you donāt talk much, itās⦠nice.ā
Kinro looks at you āā¦It is.ā
You smile, leaning back on your hands āFriends?ā
He doesnāt hesitate this time āFriends.ā
And in the quiet of the evening, with the sky turning gold, it feels like the first real bond is forming between you and Kinro, slow, careful⦠and maybe a little dangerous for Ginro if he ever shows up again.
The forest is quiet. You carry a big basket full of sticks, stones, and other little things for your new board game. The path back to the village is uneven, and the basket is heavy.
āUgh⦠maybe I took too much.ā you mutter, wobbling.
Out of nowhereā¦
āHere.ā
You look up. Kinro. His spear is still on his back, but one hand is already under the basket āYouāre struggling.ā
āI⦠I can manage.ā you say, surprised.
He shakes his head āNo. Youāre carrying too much.ā
Before you can protest, he lifts the basket easily and starts walking beside you.
āā¦Kinro?ā you ask, laughing softly āYouāre supposed to be guarding. Rules are rules.ā
He frowns, glancing around as if heās looking for something.
You grin, teasing āYou never leave the guard spot.ā
He blinks at you, silent for a moment, then just shrugs āI⦠can make an exception.ā
By the time you reach the village, a small crowd has gathered. Chrome, Kohaku, and even Senku are watching.
Kohakuās eyes widen āBut he never leaves the post!ā
Senku smirks āInteresting. Seems the friend-from-the-modern-world effect is real.ā
You step down from the path, holding part of the basket while Kinro carries the bulk āThanks, Kinro. You didnāt have to.ā
He grunts softly āā¦I know.ā
Ginro watches from afar, jaw dropping āWhoa⦠my brother is⦠helping her? And⦠looking⦠normal?ā
Kohaku nudges him āSee? Told you thereās something there.ā
Ginro blushes āā¦Maybe I should ask her first about board gamesā¦ā
You laugh and unload the basket with Kinro āSee? Told you itās fun to have friends in the village.ā
He sets the basket down carefully, eyes on you the whole time āā¦Friends.ā
āExactly.ā You grin at him āAnd good friends look out for each other.ā
Kinro doesnāt reply, but when you glance at him, you notice his eyes soften just slightly. The strict, calm guard is gone for a moment, replaced by⦠something warmer.
The villagers whisper among themselves, confused and curious. Kinro leaving the guard post? But as he walks back to the edge of the village after helping, his posture still straight, he glances at you once more.
And you catch the tiniest, almost invisible smile on his face.
The weeks pass quickly.
Every day, the village feels louder with laughter, chatter, the sound of hammers and tools, and your voice somewhere in the mix.
You talk to everyone. You always smile. You help with games, with science, with stories.
And Kinro heās there. Always close enough to see you, never close enough to touch.
At first, he tells himself itās nothing. Heās just⦠protecting the village. Watching over you like everyone else.
But then, one day, he catches himself staring too long while youāre laughing with Kohaku. His heartbeat goes wild. Too fast.
He straightens, gripping his spear tightly.
No⦠focus. Rules are rules.
But the rules donāt stop his heart.
He starts noticing little things. The way you hum when you work. How you push your hair back when you think. How you always talk to him first, even when others are around.
Every time your eyes meet his, he feels⦠something. A heat he canāt explain.
One evening, as you wave to him before going back to your hut, he just stands there. Silent. Watching.
Itās not just friendship anymore, he realizes.
I⦠like her.
The next day, Kinro does something no one expects. He leaves his guard post and walks straight toward Senkuās lab.
Inside, Senku and Gen are busy working, something with glass tubes and a lot of smoke.
Gen spots him first āOhhh? The mighty guard Kinro leaves his post? Whatās this, a miracle?ā
Senku doesnāt look up āIf the village isnāt on fire, make it quick.ā
Kinro stands stiffly, his usual serious face hiding how nervous he feels inside āā¦I need to ask something.ā
Senku raises a brow āGo on.ā
āā¦What does Y/N like?ā
Both men freeze. Then they share the same slow, evil grin.
Gen leans closer, voice dripping with amusement āWhat does she like? Ohhh, Senku, did you hear that? The serious golden knight is asking about romance!ā
Kinroās ears turn red āā¦Itās not⦠romance.ā
Senku finally looks up, smirking āRight. Sure. Youāre just⦠scientifically curious about her interests.ā
Kinro looks away, jaw tight āI only⦠want to give her something she likes. Something from her world.ā
Senku shrugs āI have no time for this love experiment. Butāā he gestures lazily at Gen āāshe was talking the other day about missing āmangaā. She said she misses reading a good new one.ā
Kinro blinks āā¦Manga?ā
Gen chuckles, eyes twinkling āOhh, right, you wouldnāt know. Itās like⦠a story drawn on paper. With pictures and words. People read them for fun, to laugh or cry.ā
Kinroās expression is blank, but his mind races āā¦Drawn stories.ā
āExactly!ā Gen says with a grin āItās art, emotion, humor, sometimes romanceāoh wait, maybe you want to make her a romantic one~?ā
Kinroās face goes red again āā¦No.ā
Senku rolls his eyes āHeh. Whatever your reason, good luck. Iām too busy rebuilding science.ā He reaches over and hands Kinro a few sheets of precious paper āHere. You can use these. But make it count.ā
Kinro stares at the paper as if itās gold āā¦Thank you.ā
Gen leans against the table, teasing grin still in place āSo⦠whatās the plan, great guard? Going to write a tale of love and destiny?ā
Kinro ignores him and turns toward the door āIāll⦠figure something out.ā
āSure you will,ā Gen calls after him āJust donāt make it about fighting rules!ā
Senku smirks āHe probably will.ā
Outside, Kinro walks toward the edge of the forest, the papers tucked carefully under his arm.
He stops, sitting down near a quiet stream.
He stares at the blank sheets for a long time.
Heās not an artist. He doesnāt know how to draw. He doesnāt even know what a manga really looks like.
But he knows what you look like. How your laughter sounds. How your eyes light up when you talk about your world.
Thatās enough.
He takes a small piece of charcoal from his pouch, something used to mark the ground during patrols and presses it against the paper.
The first line is shaky. The next one is smoother.
He draws a stick figure. Then another. Then the sun. A bad tree. He frowns, erases with his finger, tries again.
Hours pass. His hands get darker with charcoal. His paper fills with uneven shapes but slowly, they start to look like something.
Like you. Laughing. Holding a strange modern book.
He doesnāt know if itās good. Probably not. But itās his. And itās for you.
He sits there until the sky turns orange. Then he carefully folds the papers and hides them inside his vest.
For the first time, he allows himself to smile.
If this can make her smile⦠itās worth it.
That night the air is cool and still. Youāre on your way back to your hut when you see the two brothers at their post.
āGood night, you twoā you call softly.
Ginro waves with both hands āGood night, Y/N! Sweet dreams of me!ā
You laugh āYou wish.ā
Kinroās reply is quieter āRest well.ā
He opens his mouth again, then closes it, stepping back as if heād changed his mind. His eyes linger a second longer than usual.
You tilt your head, smiling āSomething wrong?ā
He shakes his head āā¦Nothing. Good night.ā
Days pass, and it keeps happening.
He catches your sleeve like he wants to speak, then pulls back.
He takes a breath as if to say something important, then goes silent when anyone walks by.
You notice. Of course you do.
One afternoon, you decide youāve had enough guessing.
You walk to the gate where he stands, perfectly still, eyes scanning the horizon.
āKinro,ā you say with a mischievous smile, āI need your help. Itās important.ā
He straightens immediately āWhat kind of help?ā
āForest duty.ā you answer vaguely.
āā¦Forest duty?ā he repeats, suspicious.
āYes,ā you insist āCome on.ā
You lead him through the trees until you reach a quiet clearing filled with soft grass. You stop and sit down on a small hill, putting your bag beside you.
Kinro looks around carefully āWhere is the problem? Is someone hurt?ā
You laugh āNo problem. No danger. Just sit.ā
He blinks āā¦Sit?ā
āMm-hmm.ā You pat the ground next to you āI donāt need help for real. I just wanted to be alone⦠with you. Just a few minutes, I swear. Then you can go back to your duty.ā
He hesitates, torn between the rules and your voice, then finally lowers himself beside you.
The forest hums quietly around you.
You glance at him and smile āThese days it looked like you wanted to tell me something. This is your chance⦠if you want to.ā
For a moment he doesnāt move at all. Then he looks away, shoulders tense.
āI⦠did something,ā he says finally, voice low, ābut⦠donāt laugh at it.ā
You blink, confused but gentle āOkay. I promise.ā
He studies your face, making sure you mean it, then reaches into his vest and pulls out folded sheets of paper.
āā¦Here.ā
You take them carefully āWhatās this?ā
He exhales āā¦A manga.ā
Your eyes widen āA manga? Waitāwho drew it?ā
He looks down, cheeks pink āā¦Me. You told Senku you missed reading them.ā
Your heart jumps āYou talked to Senku about me?ā
He nods once, still not looking at you.
You unfold the paper and stare at the lines. Theyāre rough, smudged, drawn with charcoal. The figures are clumsy but full of effort.
You squint a little, trying to understand āIām really glad for this, but Iām sorry, Kinro⦠can you explain whatās happening here?ā
He gives a tiny, nervous laugh āā¦I canāt draw. Not well.ā
You smile softly āYou have other talents for sure.ā
He glances at you, and you shift a little closer, close enough that your shoulders touch. He stiffens but doesnāt move away.
You point at one of the stick-like drawings āWhoās this?ā
āā¦Thatās me.ā he admits.
āAnd this one in the dress?ā
āā¦You.ā
You grin āI see.ā
He begins to explain each page, the two figures training, then laughing, then standing together under a big drawn sun. His words come slowly at first, then faster as he forgets to be shy. The story is simple but warm: two people who meet after a long sleep and rebuild their world side by side.
When he finishes, you hold the pages like treasure āYou ran out of paper?ā
He nods āSenku said itās too precious to waste. I used everything he gave me.ā
You look up at him, eyes bright āKinro⦠this is one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done for me.ā
He swallows, still pink āItās not perfect.ā
āIt doesnāt have to be,ā you answer softly āItās you.ā
You stay like that for a while, quiet and close, the forest whispering around you.
Kinro glances sideways as your smile makes his heartbeat race again, faster than ever.
The forest is quiet. The two of you are sitting close, the half-finished āmangaā between you. Kinroās voice has gone very small.
āYou⦠liked it?ā
āI loved it,ā you whisper āItās honest. Like you.ā
The words hang there, heavier than the air. You shift a little closer, your knees brush. He doesnāt move.
āKinro,ā you murmur, āin your story⦠do they end up together? Do they kiss at the end?ā
He freezes, startled by the question.
You smile as shy as he never saw you be āKinro⦠can I⦠can I kiss you?ā
He turns toward you, his eyes catching the last light through the trees. The space between you feels smaller, warmer.
He then snaps out of the freeze and give you a big solid nod.
Then you reach up and rest your hands lightly against his cheeks.
He leans just slightly into your touch, breath unsteady.
The forest wind moves through the leaves, gentle and bright, as if the whole world exhales with you. Then you kiss him. It's soft and calm just as the moment wants it to be. Your hearts beating fast, together, as if they're connected.
After the kiss you leave your hands on his cheeks and smile at him so brightly āThank you for all this Kinro.ā
Your hands move on their own before you even think about it, wrapping around him in a quiet hug.
He freezes instantly, his whole body tense, his face turning a deep shade of pink.
For a second he doesnāt even breathe, like heās not sure this is real.
You hide your face against his chest, smiling to yourself.
He finally exhales, slowly, carefully, afraid to move too fast, as if the smallest mistake might wake him from a dream.
The morning sun spills over the village like honey, bright and loud with voices. Youāre helping Kohaku carry baskets when she gives you that knowing grin.
āSo,ā she says, stretching the word, āyou and Kinro went to the forest yesterday?ā
You blink innocently āWe did. I⦠needed help with something.ā
āMhm.ā Kohakuās grin widens āAnd now youāre glowing like someone polished you with sunlight.ā
You laugh āThatās just the sweat.ā
From the other side of the field, Ginro nearly drops a bundle of firewood āI knew it! She did something to him! Look at him!ā
Everyone turns. Kinro is at his guard post as usual, but something is different. His posture is still perfect, yet thereās a small softness around his mouth, a calm that wasnāt there before.
He even waves at a child who greets him. Waves.
Chrome whispers, āHe waved. Kinro waved. Thatās basically a confession in guard language.ā
Gen bursts out laughing, fanning himself dramatically āAh, young love in the Stone Age! The stoic knight has fallen!ā
Senku doesnāt even look up from his workbench āTook him long enough. The data was obvious weeks ago.ā
You roll your eyes, cheeks warm āYouāre all reading too much into things.ā
āSure we are,ā Gen says, sing-song āAnd that tiny smile youāre hiding is just coincidence, right?ā
You try not to smile harder, but itās useless.
The day goes on like that, with whispers, giggles, teasing. Even the older villagers seem amused. Every time you and Kinro cross paths, passing baskets, talking quietly over meals, someone is watching, smirking behind a hand.
Kinro pretends not to notice, but his ears turn pink every single time. Still, he doesnāt scold anyone. He just keeps working, calm and steady, the faintest curve on his lips when youāre near.
By evening, the whole village has silently decided on something: you and Kinro are the pair now. The sweethearts of Ishigami Village.
You havenāt said it out loud, and, obviously, he hasnāt either, but somehow everyone already knows. And maybe you both like it that way.
Days go by, and nothing is ever said out loud. You and Kinro never call each other anything different, never hold hands where people can see, never even sit too close. But somehow⦠everyone just knows.
And because itās Ishigami Village, that means one thing: nonstop teasing.
Today youāre with the Science Team, helping Senku and Chrome move heavy wooden parts for some new āmachineā. You donāt even know what itās supposed to do yet, something about ācentrifugal forceā, āmechanical advantageā, and ādonāt touch that, itāll explodeā.
After hours in the sun, everyoneās starting to sag a little.
Gen wipes imaginary sweat from his brow āMy poor delicate hands were made for performance, not manual labor.ā
āThen perform some lifting..ā Kohaku snaps, carrying two beams at once.
Youāre somewhere in between, panting but still smiling āOkay, okay, one moreāā
Suddenly a shadow falls across you. Kinro steps in, silent as always, and takes the beam right from your hands.
You blink āKinro?ā
He doesnāt meet your eyes āYou look tired. Iāll take it from here.ā
You open your mouth to argue, but heās already carrying double what you were. Effortlessly.
From a few meters away, Ginroās voice rings out like a trumpet āWhoa, WHOA, Kinro helping the ladies!? Is the world ending?!ā
Kinro ignores him completely, which of course only fuels Ginro further āI mean, look at him! So chivalrous! So heroic! Next thing you know, heāll be handing out flowers to all the girls!ā
Gen smirks, leaning close to Ginro āHmm⦠all the girls, you say?ā
Ginro blinks āYeah!ā
āBecause from where Iām standing,ā Gen says, gesturing with mock seriousness, āheās only helping one of them, the others are still there, sweating.ā
Ginro freezes. His eyes dart from Kinro, whoās still quietly working beside you, to you, laughing softly, brushing a strand of hair from your face.
āOh.ā Ginro says āOhhhhhh.ā
Gen grins like a fox āTook you long enough to load that data, buddy.ā
Chrome laughs āYeah, even I knew that!ā
Kohaku crosses her arms āHonestly, itās kind of cute.ā
Senku, who hasnāt looked up once from his blueprints, just mutters, āStatistically speaking, everyone knew.ā
Ginro throws his arms in the air āWHAT?! Am I the only one who thought they were just weird friends?!ā
Gen pats his shoulder āYou sweet fool.ā
Meanwhile, you try to hide a smile, but Kinro catches it. His expression softens for half a second before he looks back down at his work.
āYou didnāt have to take my spot, you know.ā you tell him quietly.
āI know,ā he says simply āBut I wanted to.ā
And from behind, Gen whispers loudly to Chrome, āDid you hear that? āI wanted to!ā Thatās practically poetry from him!ā
Kinro sighs, still working āā¦I can hear you.ā
Gen laughs āAh, romance and rage, a perfect combination!ā
By the end of the day, the machine is finished, everyoneās exhausted, and the rumor mill has officially decided one thing: even if you two never say it, Kinro is absolutely, definitely, hopelessly yours.
Ā EPILOGUE
The night is calm, the air full of the smell of firewood and the sound of laughter from the village square. You step away from the noise for a bit, walking toward the small spot overlooking the lights.
The stars are clearer here, endless, quiet, beautiful.
You remember how you used to stare at the sky through a window, with city lights drowning everything out. Back then, you wished life could feel like one of the stories you read or watched, full of adventure, full of people who mattered.
Now here you are: in a stone world, with friends who feel like family, and a boy with beautiful green eyes who somehow turned all of this into home.
Footsteps crunch softly behind you.
āStill awake?ā Kinro asks.
You smile without turning āCouldnāt sleep. The stars are too loud.ā
He stands beside you, silent for a while. Then he sits down, spear resting across his knees. You glance at him, his profile calm, that tiny line between his brows gone.
āHard to believe how much has changed,ā you whisper āWhen I woke up here, I thought Iād never fit in.ā
āYou fit better than anyone.ā he says quietly.
You rest your head against his shoulder. He freezes, then relaxes slowly, the tiniest breath escaping him.
āSee?ā you murmur āEven you donāt seem so strict anymore.ā
He chuckles under his breath, a sound you donāt hear often but that you love āMaybe I just stopped fighting what was obvious.ā
You look up at him āAnd whatās that?ā
āThat Iām happier when youāre near.ā
Your cheeks warm, but you donāt move away. The stars blur a little as your eyes sting with happy tears.
Down by the fire, the others notice you both on the hill.
Gen smirks immediately āLook at that. Our favorite couple enjoying the moonlight.ā
Ginro squints āWait, are they actuallyā?ā
Kohaku elbows him āYes, Ginro. They are. Everyone knows it but you.ā
Senku doesnāt look up from his notebook āStatistical certainty reached weeks ago.ā
āYeah,ā Gen says with a grin āStone Age or not⦠loveās got good timing.ā
Back on the hill, you hear faint laughter below but donāt care. You just sit there, head resting on Kinroās shoulder, both of you quiet as the night deepens.
For the first time since you woke up in this strange world, you donāt miss the one you left behind.
ukyo notices everythingāthe way your breathing slows as you drift off, the tiny shifts in your postureāso by the time you fall asleep on him, heās already prepared to catch you.
he doesnāt say anything right away; instead, he just smiles faintly and adjusts his position so you can rest more comfortably.
he finds your trust charming. people are usually a little more guarded around him, maybe because of how perceptive he is. but you⦠you just fall asleep. itās something he doesnāt get often in a world thatās always so loud.
when you wake up, he dismisses your concerns with a gentle chuckle. ādonāt worry about it. itās nice knowing someone can relax around me.ā
the night was quiet, save for the soft rhythm of insects in the distance. you sat beside ukyo near the campfire, half-listening as he explained the constellations aboveāhis voice soft and steady, like the tide. before long, the warmth, mixed with his calm tone, blurred together, and your eyelids began to droop.
he noticed immediately, but he didnāt say anythingānot even when your head slowly tipped onto his shoulder. instead, he reached for his hat and placed it on top of your head, careful not to startle you.
for a long while, he just sat there in silence, listening to your slowing breath and steady heartbeat. it was rare for him to let down his guard completely, but with you leaning against him, the world seemed to fall into its own quiet rhythm. when you finally stirred awake, blinking groggily, ukyo only smiled. āhey, easy. you were out for a while.ā his voice was far too gentle for someone who claimed to be just a friend. when you sat up, embarrassed, he shook his head. āitās fine. I didnāt mind at all.ā
tsukasa
tsukasaās always composed, but the second you fall asleep on him, that calm cracks a little. he goes perfectly still, muscles tensedānot because heās uncomfortable, but because he doesnāt want to risk waking you.
heās not used to being seen as a source of comfort. people fear his strength, his idealsāso your trust throws him completely off balance.
he moves with caution, adjusting your head so your neck doesnāt hurt when you wake up.
the forest was still tonight, except for the soft rustle of leaves in the breeze. you sat beside tsukasa, your back against a fallen log. heād been sharpening his blade for the past hour, but when your head suddenly fell onto his arm, the sound of steel against stone came to a halt.
he froze in place, blinking down at you. the corners of his lips lifted faintlyāalmost imperceptibly. āyou really do trust me, donāt you?ā he murmured, shifting closer to you and setting the blade aside, his muscles relaxing beneath your touch.
the world around him was always loudāsurvival, duty, convictionāall things he knew too well. but right now, those fell away. his hand hovered above you, uncertain, before finally brushing a loose strand of hair from your face. the gesture was hesitant but undeniably tender. when you finally stirred awake, startled and apologizing, he only smiled softly. āitās alright. even the strongest need rest.ā
kinro
kinro stiffens immediately when you fall asleep on him, like his brain just blue-screens. heās not used to this kind of closeness, and it makes his heart stutter in a way he doesnāt quite know how to handle.
he sits there, staring straight ahead like a soldier on watch, but the red slowly creeping up his ears gives him away. he doesnāt move thoughānot even when his shoulder starts to ache.
after a few minutes, the tension eases. he glances at you from the corner of his eye and faintly smiles to himself.
if you wake up, heāll look away quickly, mumbling a quiet, āitās fine,ā in that stiff, awkward tone of his. but he wonāt meet your eyes for the rest of the dayānot because heās mad, but because his heart wonāt stop racing.
youād both been sitting guard near the edge of the village when the silence and cool night air lulled you into drowsiness. kinro was talking about patrol schedules when your head suddenly tilted, resting against his shoulder. he froze mid-sentence, blinking rapidly like his brain needed to reboot.
for a long time, he didnāt move. his back stayed straight, his hands rigid in his lap. but as the minutes passed, his stiffness faded. āisnāt it against the rules to be sleeping on the job? maybe I should wake them upā¦ā he muttered under his breath, but the words came out softer than he intended. in the end, he decided to let you rest.
the stars overhead shimmered faintly in the stillness. kinro let out a quiet sigh and glanced down at you again, ājust this once.ā when you woke up, rubbing your eyes and mumbling apologies, he turned away quickly. āitās fine,ā he said againāvoice firm, but ears bright red.
hyoga
hyoga doesnāt react right away when you fall asleep near himāheās too good at masking his emotions. but inside, heās curious. intrigued. heās used to people keeping their distance, not leaning into him like you just did.
he watches you quietly, studying the calm on your face like itās something foreign. thereās a hidden fondness there, buried under all that composure, but he keeps it tucked away where no one can see.
he wonāt touch you out of respect. still, if your head starts to slip, his hand will move instinctively to steady you, hovering just close enough to keep you from falling.
the world was hushed, wrapped in twilight. hyoga sat cross-legged, polishing his spear, when you settled beside him with a sigh. neither of you spoke, you didnāt need to. the silence between you was steady, easy, and before long, your eyelids grew heavy.
he noticed when your head tilted toward him, your breathing slow and steady. his hand stilled on the shaft of his spear, and for once, he didnāt overthink it. he just let you rest there, the faintest smile ghosting his lips. āyouāre either brave,ā he murmured, āor reckless.ā
he stayed still for a long time, watching the firelight dance across your face. there was something strange about itāto be trusted this way, to be seen as something safe. he wasnāt sure what to do with that feeling, so he simply sat there and guarded it quietly.

I love dr stone with all my heart and I know its a show primarily focused on comedy and showing us the incredible things humans can achieve but man I wish we could just have a bit more time to develop some characters more.
Thats why I wanna try my hand at expanding on Ginros post treasure island story.
