Yes, I took long. It’s been hectic with going back to school, moving to my new apartment, and actually going to school, LOL. But really though, actually going to school, getting back into a set routine, and spending time with my friends. But anyway, that’ll be different post. Happy New Year Guys! I hope your 2015 was just as eventful like Walt Disney World was on New Years Eve. It was nuts, but I sure am glad I closed the year at the happiest place on earth, and welcomed the new year the right way, with Magic. I know I didn’t posted a lot the last few days, but it got a little too crazy over at the Magic Kingdom, and well, the ending of my program got all over the…

The fateful day finally arrived and I can honestly say, I’ve never been happier to be done. I’m gonna keep this post as a run down of what happened during the day and give a full reflection(s?) later on because I actually have a ton of stuff to say about my 6 six months.

I was scheduled for one more shift at the parking structure where it all started. It’s not “home” per say, but it’s definitely the place that I feel the most comfortable. At any point in time while working at that location I know what’s going on and how to do basically everything. 

The leads that work the structure all know me and I’ve become one of the go-to people when there are higher-responsibility tasks that need to be done. That alone is enough to make me feel really proud about my time at Disneyland. 

Anyway, the day was basically like any other, but was heavily punctuated by saying goodbye to everyone and explaining my post-program plans to everyone that asked (aka everyone). 

It was a pretty slow day so there wasn’t much to do. I spent much of the second half of my shift standing around doing nothing, which was a nice reprieve from the craziness that was the whole holiday season. 

It was also really awesome that the morning lead who favors me a lot, let me do basically everything I wanted (including avoiding working the area I hated lol). The way she regards me is one of the highlights of the program to be honest. Especially because I didn’t think she liked me at first and maybe she didn’t, but because of my hard work, ability to learn quickly, and my willingness to do whatever that was asked of me she ended up really liking me and if that’s not good character on my part, I don’t know what is!

At the end of the day, I changed out of my costume for the last time, turned them into the drop box, picked up my check from the managers, and returned my ID and Main Entrance Pass. It was super anticlimactic, but the finality of it was so satisfying, especially when I tossed out my costume (lemme tell you, that was not a cute costume).  

I drove home feeling the most free I’ve ever been! Since I was a local participant, I started in June rather than the regular program people that started in August. I got out of school at the end of May so I’ve basically been working without breaks/vacations for almost a year. It’s pretty crazy to think about it. I definitely felt burnt out, especially during the middle of the program. That’s why when it finally came to a close, all the weight on my shoulders just went away.

It’s a little early and has nothing to do with shift trades, but I just wanted to take the time to say goodbye! 

I can’t believe 6 months have passed and I’m writing this already! Those that know me well are aware that it’s been a hard internship for me to get through and I was seriously counting down the days, but within that time I did have some fun and I did learn a lot about the hospitality industry and just about people in general. Thank you to everyone for being part of this incredible journey with me! Some of you have been the best coworkers and I’m forever grateful to have met you. I can’t wait to share these stories at school. Disney may not be the company for me, but I know I can make magic elsewhere in the industry. Thank you again and I hope to see you in the future!”

I’m gonna save a full reflection for later once the program really has ended so please look forward to it!

A blubbering mess I’ve been the last few days. It’s hard knowing that this time next week I’ll be driving back home to Nebraska. I don’t know if I’m ready. It’s so bittersweet. Part of me has been wondering if I made the right choice going home instead of staying, but I know that I won’t know that until I go home. This kingdom will always be here. I’m pretty sure Disney isn’t going to go bankrupt anytime soon. I know I can come back and be greeted with welcoming arms. 

I’ve had to say some goodbyes to some cast I know I won’t see again before my last shift on Saturday. It’s been so hard. I actually even had my last photo support shift tonight. It was hectic and I had a lot of things I had to take care of, but I don’t think I would’ve wanted it to be a calm night. I like when there are things I need to be called for. Just... not as many dumb reasons as there were tonight. But it was my last support shift. I had amazing coordinators around and leaders, and I teared up getting my gear because three coordinators put a special message inside my bin and it was just making everything way too real. 

I have two more shifts of my time here in Magic Kingdom. 

I don’t even think I can describe everything I’ve learned while being here. I’ve had some of the happiest times here that not even the worst guest experience can overshadow. I just can’t believe it’s already almost over.

There’s nothing else I can even say before having to stop and well up with tears. So I’m going to stop before it gets worse.
