I'm finding the last couple of cases with Andre Camel really hard to bear.
First off, he's yet again mistaken for a criminal, and yet if you look at it from the perspective of "it's a foreigner who's just being kind of uncultured and ignorant" it makes sense! Yeesh.
And next? He's supposed to be hiding himself from a VERY suspicious person, who he has met in the past, and he FAILS.
Like... he's one of the main/only FBI agents in the series who consistently flunks the assignment, and I can't even hold it against him because it's just the way he's written as a foreigner in Japan.
Unlike Akai and his family, he's not part Japanese. Jodie is barely here, but half of her story revolves around Akai (a Japanese man) anyway. He's part of the FBI which has been told to "get out of [Furuya's] Japan."
In so many ways, he's set up for failure purely because he isn't Japanese, in a series that favours Japanese people, and... this hits so much harder when he basically fumbles on keeping his identity a secret from the bad guy and possibly makes everything harder for EVERYONE, yet again.
Like, this could have massive impact. And instead of Gosho choosing to have the bad guy find out any other way, they find out through Andre's incompetence. Which isn't even his incompetence so much as him being a caring person who isn't quite on Shinichi, Akai, or Rei's level.
Forgive me if I'm more than a little pissed off at that, and like, no wonder I'm gonna have a hard time reading through this.
