A/N: 1.5Kish words. Hey all, I've gotta be honest idk how I feel about this one lmaoo. I haven't edited it because I need to not see it anymore so sorry about that!! Hopefully you enjoy, even if its maybe not my best :)))
Summary: Dick is on a hunt to tickle all of his siblings. This is definitely not an attempt to get his dad's attention and maybe even experience some tickly vengeance
âDihickie, nahahaha-â Tim squealed, his laugh music to Dickâs ears. It'd been a rough week and he wanted nothing more than to hunt all his siblings down and reduce them to piles of giggles. Tickling Tim was a great start to his mission; he could already feel his mood improving.
âAww, what's wrong, Timmy, don't you wanna spend time with me?â Dick faux pouted.
âNaha- tihihickles!â
âWell of course it does, silly. Tickles are your favourite! And as your big brother, it's my job to make sure you get all the tickly tickles your giggly little heart desires,â Dick said. When Tim just kept laughing, Dick lightened his touch, eventually stopping so as to let his baby brother breathe.
Timâs chest rose and fell with each breath as he dissolved into a puddle of mush on the sparring mat beneath him. Dickâs smile turned fond and he ran his fingers through Timâs hair to comfort him, chuckling when the boy just glared at him.
âSo⊠Which spot next, huh? I was thinking of maybe cutting this short with your ribs-â here Dick cut himself off to dart his hand down to rest unmoving on Timâs ribs. Tim squeaked and began nervously tittering, squirming slightly in his spot.
âBut I think maybe you'd rather I go riiiight here-â he skittered his hand down to the center of Timâs stomach, clawing over the spot.
âNahat thehere,â Tim squeaked again, a bright, happy grin on his face as he giggled. His squirming picked up a little.
âAww, what's the matter Timmy? What's made you into such a wiggly little worm, hmm? You want me to tickle your ribs instead after all?â Dick slowly walked his fingers up to Timâs ribs, then started skritching there with just one finger. His other hand joined in at the other side of Timâs ribs.
Timâs face was thoroughly coloured red as he shouted out, âDAD HEHELP,â before cutting himself off with bubbly cackles, hands gripped tight around Dickâs wrists for support.
âOhoh, you've done it now, giggles,â Dick teased, switching tactics to using one hand to squeeze at the side of Timâs ribs and the other to deliver nibbling pinches into the sensitive spots between the bones. There was a real chance Bruce hadn't heard Timâs plea for help, but the man seemed to have a sixth-sense for these things. Just in case, Dick wanted to use what remaining time he had left wiselyâaka by reducing Tim to happy, wheezy tears.
Tim was in hysterics and nearing the end of his ticklish sentence when Dick felt big hands grab from under his arms and lift him from behind. His immediate reflex was to try to headbutt the person (almost definitely Bruce) in the nose, but probably-Bruce seemed to anticipate this, pulling Dick in close to his chest and wriggling his fingers under Dickâs arms.
Dick flailed, kicking his legs out and trying to escape while attempting to hold in laughter. The only problem was, this meant that not only was he running out of breath, but he couldn't stop the snorts escaping him.
âDon't try to escape, chum.â Okay, definitely Bruce, the asshole. âYou'll only tire yourself out faster.â Between the blush steadily crawling down his neck and the ticklish sensations under his arms while trapped in Bruceâs hold, Dick hardly noticed as Bruce backed into the chair at the batcaveâs desk.
âI wanna help,â a slightly hoarse voice called from the mats. Dick shook his head through his laughterâit was bad enough being subjected to this treatment by Bruce, he couldn't stand the embarrassment of Tim seeing it, let alone joining in.
Luckily, Bruce seemed to get the memo, since he said, âyou should go get some water, Tim. Oh and talk to your friends, they've been messaging you for a while now.â
âOh shoot, it's Minecraft night,â Tim said, his voice getting further away through his sentence. When Bruceâs fingers finally stilled, Dick opened his arms to see that only he and Bruce were left in the batcave.
âIs that why you came down? To tell him about his friendsâ messages?â Dick asked, a little breathless. Bruce chuckled from behind and tightened his grip on him.
âPartly. I'm afraid I heard him shout me for help too, though, Dick. You know what happens next.â
Dick went back to trying to escape while Bruce just leant back in his chair, chuckling deeply again at Dickâs pitiful attempts to get away from him. When Bruce continued to just sit there, Dick (definitely trying to escape and not at all trying to provoke Bruce into tickling him, absolutely not) grabbed one of Bruceâs arms and bit down. It wasn't as hard as he could've bitten the manâfar from it, infactâbut it was definitely enough to sting.
Bruce hardly flinched, but the fact that it was noticeable meant that Dick was in deep shit. He turned to look at Bruce and maybe apologise, but immediately started laughing at the annoyed look on Bruceâs face. He felt like a giddy little kid again, riling his dad up until he was swept up for tickles.
âI think,â Bruce started, hands staying crossed round Dick but trailing further down until landing on his thighs. Fuck. âThat somebody must want tickles pretty bad if he's biting me about it.â
Dick could feel his pinkened cheeks burning and he couldn't help but snicker with a mix of embarrassment and excitement. He turned to look away from Bruce again, unable to face that fond yet teasing look. As soon as he did, Bruce struck.
The feeling of Bruce squeezing the fronts of Dickâs thighs in quick succession had him spasming like he was being electrocuted. Nothing could've prevented the screech that left him before he started squirming again.
âNAHAT THEHEHERE,â Dick cackled, snorting when Bruceâs hands âaccidentallyâ squeezed too close to Dickâs knees. âI-â snort- âCAHANâT!â
âYou had no problem tormenting your little brotherâs worst spot, Dickie. I'm not even tickling your knees,â Bruce teased, his voice tickling Dickâs neck causing goosebumps to appear. âHere, I'll be even nicer to you.â
Bruce stayed at Dick's thighs, but only squeezed one at a time, alternating which one at random. Each time he switched which leg he was squeezing, Dickâs legs hiked up, as if trying to get away but only getting closer to the tickling hands.
âThere, now you only have to worry about one leg at a time. You're welcome, sweetheart.â
Dick would've snarled back if he could but, as it was, he just snorted more, trying to elbow Bruceâs stomach but unable to do so from how he was still stuck in the manâs arms.
âB-Beheehee,â Dick gasped, falling back into snorting, hiccuping laughter halfway through.
âOk, one last thing then we're done, alright?â Bruce assured, hands pausing their evil squeezing. Though Dick was grateful for the break to breathe, a ridiculous, childish part of him was disappointed that his dad would stop playing with him soon (even if it was a very tickly kind of play).
He knew it was kind of ridiculous to be so desperate for his dadâs attention at his age, and it was bordering on selfish considering how busy Bruce was with day work, night work and his siblings, but he couldn't help it. Deep down he'd still be that little boy performing for a parentâs attention.
âReady?â Bruce asked, breaking him out of his thoughts. His hands were tapping at Dickâs thighs in a way that made him jittery with nerves, while his head had moved closer to Dickâs neck.
Without waiting for a reply, Bruce blew a raspberry against the side of Dickâs neck, while he leant down (squishing Dick in his hold abit) to pinch at Dickâs knees.
The fight immediately left Dick as he dissolved into breathless cackles, hands clinging onto Bruceâs wrists for dear life. The two different, tickly sensations at such far away parts of his body seemed to combine, making it feel as though he was being tickled everywhere at once, the sensations tingling across his skin.
âDAHAD PLEHEHEASE-â Dick screeched as Bruce blew another raspberry at the other side of his neck halfway through the plea. It was completely evil of him and had Dickâs nerves lighting up all over again.
Eventually Bruce stopped tickling and just held Dick against him, leaning back against his chair again to let Dick breathe. Weirdly, Dick felt content, like he'd gotten what he hadn't realised he'd wanted all along. Huh.
âThere's my sweet boy,â Bruce hummed, kissing Dickâs clothed shoulder. Dick rolled his eyes, ignoring how he flushed under Bruceâs knowing gaze.
Maybe his dad knew how much a part of Dick missed when it was just the two of them, before he had to compete against a dozen little siblings for Bruceâs attention. Maybe Dick could be okay with that, as long as it meant he got to play with his dad again sometimes, even if it was just being tickled to tears.
As Dick felt himself drifting off, he heard an exasperated but fond chuckle from above him. The rest of his siblings would have to wait for Dickâs tickly attention until he woke up. Right now, he was a kid again, falling asleep under his dadâs safe watch.

Jason, Tim, and Damian test Dick's patience. When the oldest sibling finally cracks, he hunts them down one by one to enact revenge for their troubles

This is a SFW tickle fic, if you donât like that then donât read :)
Voices bounce around the cave, volleying left and right like some kind of aggressive tennis match.
Dick canât even hear his fingers on the keys of the Bat Computer with how loud his brothers are being, jabs and barbs over something entirely pointless being thrown across the expanse of the room. Why on earth they were down here instead of upstairs was lost on the oldest sibling. He had been attempting to finish a report of a mission from the night prior, when his brothers appeared from nowhere and started debating. The argument didnât need Dickâs input, nor did they ask for it. It was like they wandered into the cave just to grate on his last nerve.Â
A few times, he called over his shoulder for his brothers to pipe down, belatedly realizing he sounded a bit too much like Bruce. Of all the times the man had to be away on a WE trip, it had to be when the trio of vigilanties were butting heads. Typical. Only once was Dickâs request for quiet actually acknowledged: his other attempts had been drowned out by their heated discussion.Â
âLook, we apologized for going into your territory, Jason. The point is that Riddlerâs escape was tied to a larger crime, and taking him down was a higher priority-â
âApology accepted, whatever, but I called dibs for a beat down on that guy last month. The Baby Assassin does not get to overrule that claim cause he got there first!â
âImbellic and irrelevant, Todd, I handled it much more effectively than you couldâve hoped to.â
âHave both of you forgotten that I invoked âCall Dibsâ three months ago on Mr. Freeze, and you two teamed up to take him down before I could, just to spite me?â
A loud scoff. âI hardly needed Toddâs assistance in a matter so trivial, Drake. He was lucky I didnât impale him as well just for getting in my way.â
âOh, bite me, Demon Brat-â
The sudden flurry of rolling wheels scrapes against the floor as Dick stands. He shouts quite abruptly, âOne!âÂ
Jason and Tim freeze immediately. Damianâs mouth has parted, a retort loaded in the barrel and waiting to be fired, but the sudden bellow and locked-up state of his brothers give him pause. He turns to where the twin pairs of wide eyes have locked onto the Bat Computer. Dickâs form is silhouetted in blue light. Heâs hauntingly still. The sudden lack of voices echoing through the cave makes for a horror-esque scene, serendaded by the muffled squeaking of bats from deeper into the enclaves of the rocky space.Â
âDick, weâre sorry.â Tim quickly starts bargaining. Goosebumps prickle along his skin as a nervous flutter starts up in his gut, the feeling tugging his lips up into a weak grin. âWeâll pipe down, it was a dumb argument anyway. S-So, just go back to your work, yeah? There's no need for this-âÂ
The fool.Â
Instinctual fight or flight having Jason and Timâs feet backing up, arms beginning to raise to their sides defensively. As if that would save them from the monster they've created. Damian stares, completely baffled, as the two boys edge towards the elevator while Tim rambles endlessly like an auctioneer on crack cocaine. In hindsight, he shouldâve immediately followed their lead with the slow retreat.
âTwo.â Dick turns off the computer, still facing away from his brothers but holding an unfathomable amount of power.Â
Jason is cussing under his breath now. His stomach is in knots with little jolts of nerves heightening his anticipation for what's to come. He hates how easily this game can make him go from a fully grown adult to thirteen again in seconds. He growls for Dick to âCut it with the freaky shitâ, but the wobbly smile trying to take over his face is winning this battle.Â
Hearing Jason sound so highly strung finally makes Damian take a few wary steps back from the computer. Grayson had never laid a hand on him with the intention to hurt, even when sparring, he heavily pulled his punches. This menacing aura protruding from his still form raises the hairs on the back of Damianâs neck, a small thrill zinging through his stomach. Was this to be similar to Grandfatherâs tests? A training exercise? Or was it more akin to a punishment? Drake and Todd seemed jumpy, but not fearful, instead giddy for some bizarre reason. What on earth-?
Finally, Dick turns, an evil grin on his face. âThree.âÂ
âSACRIFICE THE CHILD!â Tim shrieks, abandoning the elevator in a mad dash and instead flies up the stairwell. Without question, Jason grabs Damian and throws him at Dick, scrambling after his younger brother a half step later.Â
Damian barely gets out an undignified yell before arms are encircling him like an octopus, and heâs staring up at the predatory gleam of Dick Graysonâs eyes. âThe first victim,â he hums, something menacing in his voice that Damian canât place. The pounding of footsteps fades up the stairs. No help is coming.
âWhat the hell is happening?â He demands, gripping onto the arm thatâs swept him against Graysonâs chest and mentally running through all the ways he can break the limb should he have to.Â
Grayson chuckles, and Damian can feel it with how closely pressed he is to his brother. He looms over the boy as he says, âKarmaâ, with a toothy smile.
Fingers delve into the exposed flank not tucked against Graysonâs torso, wriggling around the skin with careful precision. Despite his arm being looped under Damianâs legs to keep him close, his hand doesn't falter in its path to tickle him to bits. Damian gasps sharply, a leg kicking out on reflex as he scrunches further into Graysonâs arms, trying to curl into himself as his nervous system goes haywire.Â
âGRAHahahaysohohon!â Heâs giggling. Giggling. Like some helpless child, as the older boy scopes out his torso for places to tickle with an inane accuracy. Grayson has tickled him before - one does not gain Dick Grayson as an older sibling and expect to evade his playful mannerisms - but this time, it feels more intentional than just messing around. Graysonâs nails are scuttling over his neck with a speed that has the boy squeaking with laughter, trained hands reduced to smacking at the spidering digits. His method is usually to just jump his hands around, lean into the silliness of this bonding activity, but this is precise. Honing in on the spots that send Damian up the wall.Â
Grayson proves Damianâs hunch when he starts speaking, something resigned yet amused about his tone. âFive times I asked you guys to pipe down, or move to a different area of the house, or godforbid stop arguing entirely, but did you listen? No, of course not. So now I have to leave my very important work to teach you all a lesson.âÂ
Damian tries to argue his case. âThehey wehehere beheing peheverse!â
Grayson apparently took that as a challenge.Â
Fingers slip from his neck to under his shirt suddenly, spidering around Damianâs bellybutton and causing the kid to toss his head back with the force of his cackles. He tries to remove the offending digits from his sensitive skin, but Grayson is annoyingly good at this and uses a dirty tactic of blowing in Damianâs ears to make him scrunch away with a giggly whine - a hand pawing at his ears to ward off the feeling.
âStohohopihihit!âÂ
Grayson flashes his canines in a grin, though thankfully, he relents the attack on Damianâs ears. He settles for tracing patterns across Damianâs abdomen, letting the kid calm down from the sensations buzzing through his nervous system.
âThis is a generational game, Dami,â Grayson says conversationally, like there isnât a snickering child being held prisoner in his unrelenting arms. âJason and Tim have both been subjected to it through Bruce and me over the years. You push enough buttons, and youâll earn yourself a Countdown, and if youâre caught, youâre tickled. Those traitors had the right instinct in bolting, but assuming Iâll be slowed down or swayed off by giving me the youngest first? Poor judgment on their part. Their punishment is gonna be twice as bad for that little act of cowardice.â
Despite giggling his head off, Damian felt a wave of satisfaction knowing Grayson also saw the injustice of throwing him to the lions. Those two royally screwed themselves over with that play.Â
Grayson hums, contemplative. âSeeing as itâs your first time with this game, itâs probably fair to keep your sentence short and hunt down the other two. But firstâŠâ
The hold around Damianâs thighs tighten, keeping his legs pinned as Grayson removes his arm from the boyâs back. Damian yelps, swinging from being upright to being a victim of gravity, dangling from an unfairly strong grip. He doesn't even get a chance to growl a half-hearted threat before his knees are being scratched and spidered over by light fingernails, completely free to torment him now that they arenât holding precious cargo.Â
âRIHIHICHARD! NOHOHOHO!â Damianâs shriek echoes through the cavern, youthful laughter flowing freely from his lungs in unstoppable waves. He twists around from his upside-down position as he cackles, wrapping his arms around his stomach when a few fingers slink down to skitter over his stretched torso. It wasnât long before he was snorting.
âThere we go,â Dick chuckles, âwas wondering when my favourite sound was gonna make an appearance tonight. Thank you for joining us, Piglet.â
Damian didnât have the brain capacity, nor the air to protest the nickname; his voice had disappeared within his tumbling cackles. Heâs stuck in a loop of tensing and untensing his knees in quick succession as Dickâs fingers scribble behind them. Occasionally, theyâll skitter to the boyâs calves before swiping back to their original target, a pattern Dick kept up until Damianâs cheeks were flushed pink. He wasnât sure he could plead with his brother, the air in his lungs too busy keeping his laughter running a mile a minute.
Thankfully, Dick has other victims to claim this night.Â
Damian feels his centre of gravity shift again, swinging him upright and tucked into a pair of strong arms once more. He tenses instinctively, hands covering his stomach and knees as he whines out, âRihihihichard.â
âIâm not tickling anymore, Dames,â Dick chuckles warmly, watching Damian giggle himself silly. He firmly rubs at the boyâs arm, patting his knee and suppressing an amused snort when the boy squeaks in giddy panic.Â
Cute, he thinks, shifting Damian to one arm so he could rub the boyâs back unimpeded. The kid really needed to eat more; he was way too easy to just pick up and hold. That, or Dick and the rest of his family were vigilantes with Herculean strength, that was also an option.Â
âLearned your lesson, then?â Dick raises a brow, shifting to tame the wild bird's nest thatâs become of Damianâs hair throughout the ordeal.
âYehes⊠I apologize for disruhuhupting you, Rihihichard." Damian hates that giggles still demand to intertwine with his voice, but the endeared look sent his way makes up for the embarrassment a bit.Â
âItâs alright, I kind of needed the break anyway.â As he speaks, Dick walks through the cave and enters the elevator.Â
Hitting some buttons and ascending to the manor, his mind begins mapping out the possible hiding places or routes his brothers may have taken in hopes of evading their retribution. Those muppets. Did they forget who theyâd been messing with? The elevator dings suddenly, and Dick steps out into the warmer air with Damian still in his arms. Alfred wanders around the corner with a glass, a placid yet amused quirk to his lips.Â
âIs there a reason, Master Dick, that your two brothers almost shattered four antiques while rampaging the halls like a pair of hooligans?â He asks, handing the cup of water in his hands to Damian, who takes it with a surprised, yet grateful smile.Â
Dick snickers, setting the boy down and gently ruffling his hair. âThey invoked the Countdown.âÂ
Alfredâs eyebrows raise as his smile widens. âAh, I see.â He tilts his head slightly behind him. âThe drawing rooms might require your attention then, Master Dick.â
Damian watches Dickâs grin expose more teeth and tries to ignore the giddy, nervous swoop his stomach gives, despite it not being directed towards him.Â
âThanks, Alfie. If you hear screaming, everythingâs probably fine.â Heâs off like a rocket in half a second, footsteps practically silent despite the flat-out sprint heâs broken into.
Damian feels absolutely no remorse for what is barreling his brothersâ way. He sips his water. âHow did you know what the Countdown was, Pennyworth?â He asks curiously, looking to the butler whoâs straighening a rug that was scuffed up - Drakeâs clumsiness probably. That boy could never keep his feet when he was panicking.Â
âWho do you think invented it?â Alfredâs eyes twinkle with a conspiratorial gleam, taking pride in the floored look Damian sends him. He chuckles. âIt may have been passed down the generations, but it had to start somewhere, Master Damian. Afterall, I needed to keep young Master Bruce in line somehow.âÂ
Jasonâs feet pound against the carpet of the manor, wheezing for breath. Look, heâs fit, but heâs also psyched out of his mind right now, and not being able to catch his breath seems fair considering the position heâs in. Tim isnât doing much better, but heâs got a case of the giggles hindering his air capacity, sending glances over his shoulder, and almost slamming into walls because of it. Theyâve been running the halls of the manor like some kind of horror house maze, hoping to either escape Dick entirely or confuse the man so much he spends the rest of his days trailing the halls looking for his brothers like some kind of ghost story. That works out in their favour in the end.Â
Suddenly, an unmistakable, gleeful cackle echoes through the halls of the manor.
Itâs almost comedic how Jason and Tim stop dead in their tracks, twisting their heads left and right down the halls in thinly veiled panic. Theyâd been moving nonstop for ages. How the hell did their oldest brother catch up so fast?!
âThis way,â Jason yanks Timâs arm away from the drawing rooms as theyâd planned, and instead speed through an adjacent door that leads to Bruceâs study. They only make it down two more corridors before that same eerie cackle rings out, somehow sounding closer.Â
âOh god, heâs hunting us. Heâs actually hunting us,â Tim hisses somewhat hysterically, turning in place to locate the sound.Â
âShut up, Timmers,â Jason growls, though heâd be lying if he says that sound isnât making him nervous. He suddenly feels bad for the criminals Dick pursued as a kid. It was everywhere, completely surrounding them. He backs up a few steps, then motions hurriedly down the hall. âWe should be able to make it to the bedrooms; there are locks on those doors.âÂ
Jason shoots down the hall again with a sputtering Tim right behind him. Fucking Giggles Mcgee back there, unable to control the nervous titters spilling out. It made Jasonâs lips subconsciously twitch into a grin of his own. Theyâre so close, just a few more halls, a flight of stairs, and theyâre home free-
Dick suddenly skids around the end of the hall with a loud, victorious crow.
Tim yelps, backpedaling on his heels straight into Jason. He darts to the side, aiming to use his brother as a human shield, when an arm suddenly slings around his middle.Â
âSorry Timbit, itâs every man for himself.â Jason hoists him up, and the teenager immediately knows how Damian felt hurtling towards certain doom.Â
âJASON!â Tim shrieks, intercepted by Dickâs arms in a reliable catch, but he feels anything but safe right now. He twists to face his traitorous brother, a hand outstretched like some melodramatic horror movie.Â
The man is already sprinting down the halls, not looking back once. The bastard.
Tim doesn't even get the chance to use his silver tongue before Dickâs fingers are skittering and spidering inside that unprotected hollow, making the boy slam his arm down, but itâs too late.Â
âDihihihick! Ohohoho gohohod- plehehease! Nohohot thehehere!â Tim squirms, and though it's a valiant effort, this isnât Dickâs first rodeo in dealing with wriggly brothers.Â
âNo, no, I think I will actually,â Dick tuts, his arms like iron bands around his little brother, whoâs a mess of shrieks and snorts.Â
âIhihi sahahaid sohohorry!âÂ
âYes, but you also said âsacrifice the child.ââ Dick echoes the earlier statement, removing his hand from the sensitive hollow. ââSacrifice the childâ, Tim? Really? That was uncalled for; itâs Damianâs first Countdown. The little guy had no idea what he was in for.âÂ
Dick drops the boyâs legs and leaves him dangling from one arm thatâs tightly wrapped around his ribs, his toes just barely brushing the floor. He felt like some overgrown, misbehaving cat from this undignified position. The free hand takes advantage of the stretched out torso and crawls across Timâs ribs, relishing in the wild squeal thatâs let out.Â
âNOHOHOT THAHAT!â
ââNot thereâ, ânot thatâ, if you didnât want to be tickled, you shouldnât have annoyed me and gotten caught.â Dick hikes Tim up further to properly stretch out his ribcage and scribbles into the sensitive grooves, amused when Timâs legs fling around, but he couldnât seem to coordinate them in an effective way to escape.Â
Timâs hands hung on to the one encircling his chest, gripping the limb as a lifeline while he lost himself to unbridled hysterics. It was no secret his ribcage was ticklish - Bruce even messed around sometimes during injury checks just to see if Tim still squeaks, spoiler, he does - but having his upperbody stretched like this made the tickling so much worse. He felt every wiggle, scratch, and jab Dick mercilessly piled onto his nervous system, sending his stomach swooping with giddiness and laughter pouring free.Â
âDIHIHICK IHIHIM SOHOHORRY!âÂ
âHeard your apology the first time, bud, you know the rules though. You pushed my buttons, so Iâm pushing yours.â As he spoke, he prodded up and down Timâs ribs, drilling into the bottom set and earning himself a high-pitched yelp. âItâs only fair afterall.â
âNOHOHO IHIHIT IHIHISNâT!â
Dick chuckles. âArgue with the guy who made this up, Iâm just following the set regulations, Timmy. If the rules get updated, please let me know.â
Those devilish fingers have finally abandoned his lower ribs, only to begin crawling upwards agonizingly slow. Tim giggles and stammers out half-baked protests as his nerves tingle at the intentionally leisurely movement, only making his brain even more keyed up. The octaves of his voice mirror the climbing digits, as it only becomes higher the closer they get to that accursed spot on his upper ribs. Heâs stumbling over his words so much that it doesn't even sound like English anymore. When those fingers are a single set of bones away, they pause, tapping idly on them. Tim holds his breath, chest stuttering with flustered, anticipatory giggles.Â
âCorrect me if Iâm wrong, Timmy,â Dick purrs gleefully, sending the boy cringing away as his breath curls at his ear, a stray snicker leaking through. âBut did you just say, âdonât cut that shit out?ââ
Tim scrabbles at the arm clinging tight to him. Heâs giggling like mad, and Dick hasnât even begun. âNohohoho! No- Ihihihi dihihidnât!â
âI think you did~â Dick singsongs gleefully, âAnd who am I to refuse my baby brother?â
He wraps both arms around Tim and hoists him up higher, his forearms now coiled around the boyâs stomach. Ducking around the arm thatâs flailing in a panic, Dick plants his lips on the side of his ribs and blows the biggest raspberry he could into that damning spot.
Youâd think the boy was being murdered. The scream Tim let out was shrill and panicked, laughter chasing the sound in endless waves. He goes slack in Dickâs grip, gasping and wheezing while his eyes squint with the size of his exhilarated grin. Dick has the good grace to let Tim gain his breath back before plunging his head in once more and blowing another raspberry.Â
Timâs stuck there, shrieking, cackling, and hiccuping with laughter. The fight is gone from his body, snatched away by the relentless ticklish buzzing flying through his nervous system. His stomach feels filled with that fizzy energy, expecting another wave of merciless tickling on his upper ribs. That expectancy keeps his giggles constant despite Dick giving him a break.
The older boy chuckles, squeezing Tim in more of a hug than a restrictive hold. âYou still with me, Baby Bird?â He asks.
âMehehean,â Tim presses out, completely spent as he becomes dead weight in the embrace. âThahat was a mehean tactic.â
âI know, Iâm gonna do the same to Jason.â
Tim snorts. âGood. Bastard gave me up.âÂ
âThat he did.â Dick gently lowers Timâs feet down to the ground, though his hands stay on the boyâs shoulders when he sways. âTired?â
âWhat do you think?â Tim snarks, only to immediately cringe and giggle helplessly, bracing into a feeble defense.
The Pavlovian response causes a bark of laughter to leave Dick. âIâm done,â he promises, gently mussing up Timâs hair. âAny idea where your brother was heading?âÂ
âAiming for the bedrooms, but he might try and play it smarter after abandoning me,â Tim answers immediately, feeling no guilt. âGo get his ass.â
âSir, yes, sir.âÂ
He gives an exaggerated salute, Tim blinks, and suddenly Dick is gone. A gust of wind teases at Timâs bangs, and he scoffs a laugh. Definitely Batmanâs kid, heâs mastered that disappearing trick perfectly.
Jason knows heâs fucked.Â
He sacrificed both brothers to this tyrannical nightmare, and he knows it doesn't matter where he hides, or runs, or prays to. Heâs fucked, with a capital F.Â
Hearing Timâs faint screams minutes ago only doubled the butterflies in his stomach, doubtless Dick would find a way to do the same to him. There wasnât a way out of this that didnât leave him gasping with laughter and entirely at his older brotherâs mercy. UnlessâŠ
Jason pauses his jog towards his bedroom. The bedroom. Thatâs what Dick would expect, the same tactic Jason used when he was thirteen and didnât think things through. Hiding under the covers and muffling his giggles, only for Dick to pounce on him and tickle him to tears.Â
Jason spins on his heel and hauls ass towards the library. He never hid here when he was a kid - the quiet in the library was to never be forsaken, heâd been icily resolute on that when he was a kid - so Dick would never look here, cause Jason would never break his own rules. Perfect.Â
He pokes his head through a crack in the door, but the room is silent. No sign of his brothers anywhere, older or otherwise. He approaches the closest couch facing from the door and slumps down the back of it, taking in deep heaves of air to recover from the laps heâs been doing around the manor. Having to double back and take the long way to the bedrooms after Dick intercepted him and Tim had wasted time and energy. For now, though, he was safe, if only to think of a better strategy and recover the oxygen lost on this wild goose chase.Â
âThis is a good hiding spot, heâll never find us in here.â
Jason freezes. Oh, no. Please, no.Â
Dickâs wide grin pops up from the couch Jasonâs hiding behind, something chaotic and menacing. âScream and run.â He assumes, tilting his head.Â
Jason bolts with a yelled curse, but Dickâs been an older brother for years and practically predicted that move. He tackles Jason to the floor, rolling across the plush rugs and pinning him face down to the carpet.Â
âNow, Jason. Jason, Jason, Jason,â Dick leers, tutting like a disappointed mother. His fingers tap idly on the manâs wrists, sending jolts through his nerves and having him fight not to curl in on himself. âSacrificing, what was it, both of your brothers today? Not even fifteen minutes apart, either. That is low, Little Wing.â
âIt was Timâs idea!â Jason argues, trying to ignore the wobbly grin spreading over his face as he pushes his feet into the rug to get some leverage. No such luck.
âOh, donât worry, Iâve made sure heâs learned not to suggest that again. But you⊠You actually threw them, so I think Iâve got to make this lesson stick. Donât you think?â
âIâll- Iâll kihill you.â
âSay that without laughing, and maybe Iâll believe you.âÂ
Jason opens his mouth, and Dickâs fingers drop his wrists to claw at his hips, sending the boy into fits of loud laughter and wildly scrabbling for purchase on the library floor. It was very reminiscent of Jasonâs reaction as a kid. All the years passed, changes came and went, and yet some things stayed the same. It pulled a smile from Dick despite the âmenacing, evil older brotherâ shtick he was trying to create. He probably looked like a Wish version of a villainous fiend.Â
The problem was, he loved his brothers too much to really act minacious, even when they were being annoying. âHaving fun?â He asks Jason, just to be annoying right back.
âGehehehet fUHUhuhucked!âÂ
âKori handles that, donât you worry.âÂ
Before Jason can roll his eyes or fake-gag at the joke, Dick is jabbing and prodding along the back of his ribcage, putting his attention towards not hitting the ceiling with how hard he jolts. âGOHOHohod, Dihihick!â
âStill ticklish on your back then?â Dick hums merrily, knowing all too well the extent of his little brotherâs sensitivities. Seeing Bruce do back scratches on Jason when he was a kid was absolutely golden. Arguments or not at the time, they could both agree it was cute as hell.Â
Jason tries to swing an arm backwards to hit Dick, but the guy simply weaves around it and jams his fingers into the newly exposed area, delighting in the garbled shriek Jason gives and crumpling of his body as he gives in to the sensations. All tumbling giggles and wheezes galore.Â
âRight, so I want a couple of apologies from you, Mister,â Dick says conversationally, using the hand not crushed in an armpit to spider delicately along Jasonâs shoulder blades. He has to stifle his own giggle as Jason whines through his laughter, shifting around to dislodge the pesky little digits with no success. âOne for throwing Damian. One for throwing Tim. One for disrupting me when I asked you to be quiet. And one for flipping me the bird when I asked you guys to be quiet- donât think I didnât see that, Little Wing. Youâre not slick.âÂ
âThohought yohouâd appreheheciate a bihird, Nihihightwing,â Jason snarks through his titters. Well, his mouth always did work faster than his brain.Â
Dick doesn't even give him a response, simply slips his hand free from the hollow and scribbles down Jasonâs back in its entirety. His nails skip and jump across bones and delve into the gaps between ribs, skittering down to the next target with a keen eye for Jasonâs reactions. And boy, did he react.Â
Jasonâs fist slams against the carpet as he buries his face into the crook of his free arm, red face warm against his skin and muffling the boisterous cackles he was sure could be heard throughout the whole manor. Lazarus pit or not, it seems his body reacted the exact same to tickling as when he was a boy, sapping his strength and making him useless. He isnât sure how long he lies there, testing the range of his voice box under Dickâs fingers which wouldnât give his damn back a break, but when they did eventually lift from his skin, his nerves were shot to hell. The giggling stuck around despite nothing touching him, fizzing and sparking throughout his body from his clothes shifting around was enough to keep him in a delirious state of mirth.Â
Dickâs hands return to his back, but instead of scribbling, they press firmly and rub down his spine. âEasy there, Snickerdoodle,â he says gently, but no less playful. âI forget how ticklish your back is.â The guy probably deserved a break from the tickling. Dick wanted his apologies, but he wasnât a monster.Â
Jason does take a minute to calm down, and then turns his head to look up at his big brother, flushed cheeks and hair mussed. âGet bent,â he wheezes out, his grin voluntary and goading.Â
Dickâs hands pause in their soothing ministrations, and his eye twitches.Â
Ah. Damn. Jason may have made a miscalculation on that onE- OH JESUS CHRIST STOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOP-
Jasonâs screams of laughter may have included his mental chant, but he has no idea, too caught up in his shrieking as Dick presses a raspberry into his shoulder blades. And he didnât stop at one. Or two. Three. Four. Five. Jason was going to leave a dent in the floor if this kept up, coping with the incessant buzzing in his skin by slamming his fist down.Â
âFour apologies, Little Wing.â God, you could hear the smirk in that smug bastardâs voice. âBetter hop to before I start again.âÂ
Part of Jason wanted to keep being defiant, but the other, younger, wiser part of himself was strangling that thought and shouting to just give up. âAlrihihihihihight,â Jason conceded, wiping a stray tear from his eye as he sat up on his forearms. âIâm sor-EHEHEHEHE! DIHIHIHICK!â He body slams into the carpet once more and kicks out.
âHm?â Dick pops his head back up from where heâd been buzzing another raspberry into Jasonâs shoulder blades, âWere you saying something, Little Wing?â
âYOU FUCKWIT!â Jason roars through his lingering cackles, desperately trying to turn over to block that horribly ticklish spot. Dick has him firmly pinned with his thighs, and his strength is just gone; thereâs nowhere to hide.
âNot hearing my apologies, Jason,â Dick smirks, poking incessantly at his spine with merry little taps, causing the boy to flinch and groan his annoyance through his giggling.Â
âIhihi trihihihied!â
âTry harder.â
God, Jason was going to kill this man.Â
He does attempt though, yet every time he gets out one syllable, Dickâs either blowing another raspberry or raking his fingers across those hypersensitive shoulder bones. Jason is lost in laughter, cheeks flushed brightly, and a smile starting to ache on his face. He didnât think heâd laughed like this since⊠well, since before everything went to shit.Â
It felt weirdly nice, though a little overwhelming.Â
It was when Dick blew three mini rasberries across his ribcage that he finally worked up the air capacity to shriek. âIâM SOHOHOHORRY! DIHIHICK PLEHEHEASE!â He slaps the carpet twice, a little desperate as he crumbles into a ball of laughter. He wasnât sure if he preferred dying to this or a crowbar; at least the latter wasnât embarrassing. Â
A firm pressure immediately rubs down his back, hard enough to avoid tickling and getting rid of those ghastly aftershocks. Jason slumps to the floor, muffling his titters into the carpet and trying to remember what itâs like to breathe properly. The second Dickâs weight leaves his hips, heâs rolling into a ball. A hand touches his head, and he canât stop the preemptive jolt and small hiccup of laughter.Â
Thereâs a soft laugh above him. âNo more, Little Wing. Youâve had enough.â A hand deftly shifts through his messy hair, correcting the little floof of white back into a dignified state. Jason allows it. Not cause he canât move or he enjoys the feeling, but as a way for Dick to make up for the torture he put him through. He lets his eyes slip closed, going boneless into the floor.
âDid you break him?âÂ
Glee is evident in Timâs voice, footsteps shuffling over to where Jason is doing his best impression of a blob fish. Jason rolls his eyes at Dickâs prideful chuckle.Â
âFâck off, Timbit,â Jason grumbles, shoving his face into his arms and willing away the pink he knew was still staining his cheeks.Â
âTt, you deserved that, Todd. After giving up not only myself, but Drake as well?â Damianâs playfully haughty remark made the vigilante look up with a glare. The kid looked far too smug. Dick mustnât have gone very hard on him. That would need to change in the future.
Alfred walks over with three water bottles in hand, passing one to Tim, to Dick, and setting the third by Jasonâs side. âAre you alright, Master Jason?â He asks, and the look heâs giving the boys is nothing short of amused.
Jason canât help the fond twitch of his lips despite his embarrassment, giving a small nod to the butler. âIâm good.â He fumbles with the chilled water and drags himself up to uncap it. âBruce raised a monster.â
Dick, whoâs chugging his water after having to hunt down three brothers, grins around the neck of the bottle. âI learned from the best,â he claims after swallowing. âItâs a generational game.â
âItâs generational trauma,â Jason mutters.Â
Dick raises one hand and wiggles his fingers, utterly delighted and wheezing with laughter when all three brothers leap away from him with wide eyes.Â
âI believe you are quite right, Master Jason,â Alfred hums, though the small chuckle he lets out escapes none of them. âMaster Bruce will be delighted that something of his family was passed down.â
âHappy to carry on the tradition,â Dick grins, taking another victorious swig of his water. His brothers shoot him identical glares, but Dick notes that each of them is still flushed with smiles on their faces. The boys all looked content, tired of course, but happy.Â
Dick grins back unapologetically as he swallows. Maybe he needs to invoke Countdown more often if this was the result: a house filled with laughter and only the occasional death threat. A good day for the manor, all in all.Â
a/n: based on This Anon (thank you for feeding my lee!Tim brain worms sdhfjghf) Tim's about 13/14 here!
summary: Tim will never, ever snark at Dick in front of his friends ever again. Never.
or: After claiming that he hates it when Dick tickles him, Tim, unable to sleep and concerned that he might've been a bit of a jerk, goes to find his oldest brother. Dick isn't mad in the slightest, but he will take the chance to fluster his little brother into oblivion with all the teases and tickles.
To be fair, it had been a busy day â Kon and Bart had come over, for the first time, and Tim had gone all-out in his preparations. Heâd made sure all the gaming consoles were working and that they had a copy of Mario Kart for each, ensured that Alfred had a sufficient quantity of snacks on hand for Bart, put in special grocery orders with the kind of licorice that Kon liked and that limited-edition lemon Zesti for himself, double triple quadruple checked that Jason was in town and that Dick would be at the Manor in case anything happened so he wouldnât be disturbed, rearranged the furniture in the den twice then a third time for optimal comfort and visibility, found the six nearest take-out options and ranked them in order of diversity of options and reviews, and âÂ
Okay, in hindsight, he had stressed way too much for what had turned out to be an absolutely epic, chill afternoon sprawled in the den with his friends playing video games and eating quantities of junk food that were not Alfred-approved. Itâs just. Well, it was the first time heâd had other hero/vigilante/meta friends over, and he'd really really wanted it to go well.Â
And it had! It had gone great. So great that Tim had somehow managed to relax into his home self, so when Dick had come around to say hi and do some obligatory messing around, Tim had been more than happy to duck away from his outstretched hand and snap out something like âHey, I hate it when you tickle me, cut it out!â Heâd fully expected Dick to give him That Lookâą with one of his eyebrows raised and that smirk that only ever meant trouble, then tackle him to the carpet.Â
But Dick had just smiled and pulled back, apologizing, then wandered back upstairs.Â
The thing was, Tim couldnât sleep, which meant that his brain was churning along at a million miles an hour on tracks of questionable integrity. Normally heâd go find Dick, whoâd said âand Tim believed himâ that Tim could come find him any time.Â
Now, though â Tim wasnât sure. Heâd been about to get up when the memory of Dick going âsorry, Baby Birdâ and retracting his hand hit, and Timâs already racing thoughts had plunged over the cliffside into a spiral that he was definitely, totally overthinking.Â
âThis is dumb, right?â he muttered, staring up at his ceiling. âIâm being dumb.â
The tiny glow-in-the-dark stars stuck up there didnât offer any response, but that twitchy feeling in his legs was becoming unbearable. Okay, fine.Â
Timâs sigh echoed into his empty room as he heaved himself up and swung his legs to the side of his mattress. The sudden rush of chilly air sent waves of prickles up his arms, so he snatched a random sweatshirt off the clothes pile beside his door, then ventured out into the comforting, warm hallway light.Â
He paused for a few seconds that felt like a subjective ten minutes and stared at Dickâs closed door, diagonally across from his own. The five or so feet between him and the doorway might as well have been a mile. Yeah, heâd been kind of an asshole earlier, but Dick wouldnât â wouldnât really be mad at him, right? Dick had seemed fine, but then again, he usually did, soâŠ
More of those uncomfortable, anxious feelings twisted together somewhere in the pit of Timâs stomach as he stood there, frozen in the hall. He hadnât meant to be rude, heâd just been so caught up in the game with Kon and Bart, in the high of having friends over who were there to see him â on purpose, not just because he was someoneâs tag-along little brother. And, sure, heâd had a flare of irrational panic when Dick had started joking around with his friends, like maybe theyâd suddenly realize that Dick was way more funny and interesting than Tim could ever be, and then heâd lose this little space that heâd worked hard to carve out for just himself.Â
The grown-up rational brain knew that wouldnât happen.Â
Unless âÂ
No, no. Shut up.Â
Tim balled his hands into fists at his side and took a deep breath. Even if Dick didnât want to spend time with him, Tim could at least apologize for snapping at him earlier. The odds were good that Dick would forgive him. Right?Â
Before he could keep overthinking it, Tim crossed the hall in two big strides and knocked twice on his older brotherâs door.Â
âCome in!â Dick called.Â
Well, he didnât sound mad. He had to know that Tim was the only one around who could show up at this hour, too, so that was a good sign.
Still, that tight, anxious shyness settled in his stomach as Tim shuffled through the doorway, and he fought back the sudden urge to wrap his arms around his middle. Â
Dick was lounging sideways on his bed, both his legs propped up on the wall. He flashed Tim a bright, upside-down smile. âHey, Timmy. Whatâs up?â
Tim managed to return the smile even though his face felt stiff. âHi.â He paused for a second to search for the right words. It was like when heâd first met Dick, he felt all clumsy and awkward again.Â
The bedframe squeaked when Dick did some combination of a flip and a backwards roll and came up sitting on the edge of his bed. He combed his hair out of his eyes, giving Tim another one of those warm smiles. âCanât sleep?âÂ
That, Tim could answer even though his words still felt stuck in his throat. He shook his head.Â
Something achingly gentle flickered through Dickâs eyes that made Tim feel a little too perceived. Before he had the chance to fixate on that, though, Dick scooted backwards and patted the mattress in front of him.Â
âThereâs room for ya in the nest if you want it, Baby Bird.âÂ
The wave of relief that crashed over Tim nearly made his knees weak. Okay, Dick wasnât mad at him, wasnât going to send him away. Acting on pure instinct, he scurried over to the bed and flopped down facefirst into the pillows.Â
Dick chuckled, and suddenly a hand was running through Timâs hair, gently tugging every now and then to send pleasant shivers racing down his spine. Between the dizzying relief that the entirely made-up scenario that Timâs brain had concocted was, indeed, not real, and the head scritches, Tim went limp against the mattress. He still wasnât tired, tired, but he sure did feel more relaxed.Â
What had he even come in here for, again? Oh, right.Â
Tim pushed himself up on his elbows and turned his head so he wasnât talking directly into the pillows. âIâm sorry âbout earlier.âÂ
The hand in his hair slowed, faltering in its rhythm, and Tim butted his head against it with a displeased sound. Bad hand. Those were his head scritches, thank you very much.Â
âSorry, bud,â Dick said, and his voice sounded strained, like he was trying not to laugh as he resumed carding through Timâs hair and scratching over his scalp. âIâm just trying to figure out what youâre apologizing for.âÂ
Was he serious? Tim scowled at him. âFor snapping at you while we were gaming.â
âOh. Tim,â Okay, Dick was definitely holding back laughter, and Tim found himself with the growing feeling that heâd misunderstood the situation. âItâs fine. I wasnât upset, I just wanted to give you space to be with your friends.âÂ
Tim smashed his face back into the pillow and wondered if maybe his high IQ came at the cost of utterly nerfed emotional intelligence scores. âHn.âÂ
âYou sound like B.âÂ
âHnn.âÂ
Dick snorted. Then, softer, he asked, âHave you been twisting yourself up about this, Baby Bird?âÂ
Tim frowned into the memory foam beneath his face. NotâŠnot really? Not in the sense that Dick probably thought, anyways. It hadnât even occurred to him to be stressed until he was lying there staring at his ceiling, unable to sleep.Â
âI donât think so,â he muttered after a few moments. He knew he was probably muffled by the pillow, so he rolled over onto his back. Dickâs ceiling also had an array of glow-in-the-dark stars pasted onto it. Some of the patterns were different then Timâs, but they both had a couple of the more recognizable constellations. Jason did, too. âI got up because I canât sleep.âÂ
âAh.â Blankets rustled as Dick shifted around to wrap his free arm around Timâs shoulders, warm and solid and safe. Tim leaned into him, and immediately some of the restless feelings that had been gnawing at the back of his mind quieted down.Â
ââM restless,â Tim added. He couldnât possibly make it clearer, right? Those were practically Dickâs own words, back when heâd scoop Tim up into his arms and tickle his sides and coo about âaw, are you a little restless tonight, Timmy?â Â
With an understanding hum, Dick squeezed Tim a little tighter. âIs there anything I can do to help you, or do you just want to sleep?âÂ
He had to be kidding. As if Dick didnât take any possible chance to â to tickle his little brothers and, god, just thinking about it was making Timâs face heat up â and here Tim was, offering himself up on a platter âÂ
âHuh?âÂ
Dick winked down at him. âIf thereâs something you want, Timmy, you just have to ask.âÂ
Oh, fuck that. Absolutely not. Tim couldnât â he wouldnât â oh god, his face was burning now.Â
âDick.âÂ
âYeah?â The corners of Dickâs eyes crinkled as he looked at Tim with a teasing, mischievous grin playing at his mouth. That particular look never boded well. âIâm not mad at you, I just wanna respect your boundaries. If you really hate it when I tickle youââ
Tim yelped and promptly tried to bury his face in the pillows again, only for Dick to drag him back with the arm still tucked around his shoulders.Â
âNuh huh, Timmy, donât burrow away from me. Whatcha after?âÂ
Maybe this was how Tim would die, spontaneous combustion from sheer, overwhelming embarrassment. Now that his earlier burst of anxiety had dissipated, it was easy to recognize that, no, Dick wasnât mad at him, he was just teasing, sort of like heâd tease Jason whenever heâd snark at Dick. Tim just didnât usually give Dick that amount of snappiness or snark, so this was a little new for him. Okay. He was Robin, he could adapt âÂ
Except adapting meant asking for â for â for tickles, and not just any tickles, but the cozy, spidering scribbles over his stomach that Dick had long-ago christened as Timmy tummy tickles, and the thought of saying any of those words out loud did in fact make Tim want to explode into flames on the spot.Â
He groaned and thunked his head into Dickâs shoulders. âDiâick.âÂ
âYeah?âÂ
Tim didnât have to look to know that Dick had an entirely guileless expression pasted on to hide the fact that he was an evil, evil person who just wanted Tim to spend the rest of his life as a puddle of embarrassment underneath his covers.Â
âJust do it.â Okay, yeah, Tim knew he was whining, he heard the way he sounded, but he couldnât help it. âCâmon!âÂ
Dick let out a low, teasing chuckle and pulled Tim against his chest, pressing a kiss to the side of his head. âI need you to be specific, Timmy, Iâm not sure what you want.â He patted Timâs stomach, but didnât move his hand otherwise.
Supposedly, Slovenia was lovely this time of year. Maybe Tim could just move there â it wouldnât be too hard to change his name, and he could always dye his hair. His knowledge of Slavic languages wasâŠpedestrian, but he could learn! He was good at learning. That was, like, part of his whole thing.Â
But, as tempting as that plan sounded, he was getting twitchy. It was the same kind of wound-up giggly feeling heâd get when one of his brothers had him pinned but, rather than just getting it over with, would just sit there wriggling their fingers half an inch above his skin. That tactic never failed to make Timâs brain completely short-circuit, and they knew it.Â
âPlease,â he muttered through gritted teeth, trying to rip the bandaid off. Then, for emphasis, he tapped the back of Dickâs hand that was still resting on torso. âOnmystomach.â
Dick hummed again, considering. âI guess that does narrow it down.âÂ
Oh, thank god.Â
â...But Iâm gonna need you to use the technical term.âÂ
Tim felt the weight of Dickâs teasing words as his face blazed with all the warmth of a firework. âDee, youâre just â Iâm sorry I snapped at you, Iââ he was never ever ever going to snark at Dick ever again, no matter who else was around. Not if this was his payback.
âNone of those are the right words, bud.âÂ
âI hate you,â Tim muttered. âYouâre so, so so mean to me and nobody would ever believe it.â Belying his own words, he smashed his face against Dickâs chest since his stupid older brother wouldnât let him hide in the pillows.Â
Dick laughed again, and it resonated through his whole body, vibrating through Timâs ears in a way that almost, almost made him forget how much Dick was teasing him. âAw, youâre cranky when youâre flustered.âÂ
Tim just pushed his face further into Dickâs fleecy pullover. After what was approximately a hundred years, he squeezed his eyes shut and braced himself for the inevitable wave of embarrassment and gritted out, âI want â Ti â Timmytummytickles, there!âÂ
âOh!â Dick said with an entirely fake amount of surprise that made Tim want to smack him upside the head. âYou should have just said, Baby Bird.âÂ
All thoughts of wrangling one of his arms free to bat at Dickâs wavy hair flew away when the hand on Timâs stomach started digging in, fingers wiggling into his belly with a rhythmic precision that had him choking on a sudden wave of giggles.Â
âAww, thereâs my Timmy,â Dick cooed, leaning down to nuzzle against the top of Timâs head. âI thought I had a ticklish, giggly baby brother somewhere in there.âÂ
âNo mohore teheheheasing!â squawked Tim as he let his head fall back against Dickâs shoulder, grinning through his laughter. No matter how old he got, Dickâs particular brand of older-brother teasing would never not burrow under his skin and make him squirm.
âNo teasing? Not even about this ticklish tummy right here?â Dick made a line of pokes across Timâs lower stomach, just above the waistline of his pajama pants, for emphasis.Â
Case in point â Tim wouldâve sworn his brain started to give off steam like a Looney Tunes character. âNooo!âÂ
Dick tsked, his smirk barely concealing the well of affection that showed through in his gaze. âOkay, bud, if you insist.âÂ
He brought both hands up to make light scribbles over Timâs stomach with just his nails. It â god, it tickled, all Tim could do was let himself laugh as his mind drowned in the overwhelming tingly prickles. His face rubbed against Dickâs smooth pullover as he tried to hide again, but the quick fluttering of fingertips across his collarbones made him squeak and snap his head back around.Â
âNuh uh, no hiding,â Dick scolded. He used each of his index fingers to tap on the twin giggle spots on either side of Timâs bellybutton. âDonât wanna make these tickly-tickle-tickle spots lonely, hm?âÂ
God, he was really going all-in on the teasing, and Tim couldnât stop the giggly whine that welled up in the back of his throat. âDee!âÂ
Dick was alternating between light tapping over those particularly ticklish places and scribbling his index fingers over them, occasionally pinching at the squishy spots. âThat is my name, Tim, great job.â Â
Tim tried to channel some of Jasonâs blustering defiance by telling Dick to shut the fuck up, but then Dick started using all the fingers of each hand to scribble over his giggle spots and Tim collapsed back into fits of squeaky laughter, shaking his head.Â
âItâit tihihicâit tihihickles!âÂ
Dick hummed. âYeah, it sounds like it does, Squeakers.âÂ
The nickname sent a fresh wave of little brother feelings rolling through Timâs thoughts as he tried to wrangle the peals of giggles under control long enough to say something else â he didnât know what, but itâd come to him.Â
Or maybe it wouldnât. When he felt Dickâs hands slowly crawling outwards towards his lower ribs, Tim started squirming even more. He was expecting Dick to poke and prod at his ribcage, so when Dick stopped and suddenly vibrated each of his hands into Timâs upper stomach, he startled and squeaked around a cackle.
âYâknow,â Dick said like he was having an epiphany in the middle of digging wiggling, prodding fingers into Timâs abdominal muscles. âYou donât actually hate it when I tickle you, do you?âÂ
That was one of the worst, easiest things he couldâve said and Timâs wriggling increased as he tried to shield himself from whatever else Dick was about to say. âI â nahahaha!âÂ
âAaw. In factâŠâÂ
The tickling fingers suddenly jumped down to the outer parts of his stomach, close to his sides, and dug in with a series of nibbling pinches.Â
âThese are your favorite tickles, arenât they, Baby Bird?âÂ
Actually, maybe that was the worst thing Dick had ever said. Tim could hardly think but he knew he was more scarlet than the fever itself, drowning in his own ticklishness. His hands came up on instinct to try and push Dickâs away, but heâd been so weakened by all his previous laughter that he just latched onto Dickâs wrists and held tightly, not actually pushing against him.Â
âYou â youâre â tihihickling!â Tim gasped out, slamming his eyes shut when Dick cooed again.Â
âYeah, I am,â Dick replied, his voice a couple notches removed from the one he used to talk to babies and toddlers. âGlad youâve recognized that, Timmy.âÂ
The voice made everything tickle more â well, either that, or Dick had magic tickle powers that, hey, for all Tim knew were totally a thing that existed â and Tim gasped, managing to flip onto one of his sides, facing Dick.Â
Rather than shielding his stomach from questing, tickling fingers, his new position just meant that one of Dickâs hands went back to niggling around his bellybutton and the other started squeezing up and down his newly-exposed side. Tim collapsed into waves of helpless giggles, hiding his face in Dickâs chest. He could smell traces of the cedar cologne that Dick usually preferred, a scent that Tim had long ago learned to associate with brother, love, hugs.Â
âCâmon out, Tim,â Dick teased, the words gently cajoling. âDonât let the tickles get lonely, or theyâre all going to start hanging out here.â His fingers migrated towards the back of Timâs lower ribs on that side, fluttering over one of his worst tickle spots.Â
Tim made a muffled, strangled yell and frantically shook his head, helplessly trying to use his elbow to push Dickâs hands away.Â
âHmmm. Well, maybe thereâs another way to get you back out of hiding.âÂ
Suddenly, Dick was nuzzling a flurry of raspberries and nibbles against Timâs neck and chin and collarbone while his fingers squeezed and scrabbled across Timâs stomach.Â
âHey!â Tim shrieked, then promptly snorted with laughter as he tried to cringe away from the raspberries and nibbles. âDo nohohotâDeehehehe!âÂ
Dickâs only response was a long raspberry right at the crook between his neck and shoulder that made Tim flinch hard enough that he kicked his legs out, heels uselessly drumming against the bedsheets.Â
âHowâs your restlessness?â Dick asked as Timâs laughter began to settle down again.Â
âItâsâ itâs gohohone!â Tim giggled, barely keeping himself from instinctively trying to roll all the way onto his stomach. He didnât think he could stand it if Dick decided to tease at the kill spots on his lower ribs. Â
âDo you think you can sleep now?âÂ
âIdoIdoIdohoho!âÂ
Dick gave him one more raspberry paired with a burst of featherlight scribbles over his giggle spots, and Tim melted back against him as his laughter weakened into wheezy, high-pitched giggles.Â
âAnd youâre going to stay here?â Dick checked.Â
A burst of warm happy feeling fizzled in Timâs gut, right where his earlier anxious dread had been. âI will!âÂ
âAnd youâre going to remember not to sass me in front of your friends?âÂ
âSaidâsaid you werenât mad!âÂ
Dick laughed, low and fond. âThatâs true, Baby Bird, and Iâm not. But ââ he nudged the side of his head against Timâs for emphasis. âI gotta uphold my own older brother cred, which means the next time you snap at me in front of Kon and Bart, theyâre gonna learn how to tickle those ribs of yours until youâre all hazy and wheezy and tapping out.âÂ
Just the thought of that sent sympathetic ticklish sparks running up and down Timâs ribcage, and he let go of Dickâs wrists to wrap his arms around his middle, nodding quickly against Dickâs chest. âOk, ok!âÂ
âGood!â And, man, did Dick sound way too chipper for someone whoâd just taken his younger brother to pieces in the early hours of the morning. He finally stopped scribbling over Timâs stomach, instead flattening his palm to rub slow, wide circles to chase away the leftover ticklish feelings â not that it stopped Tim from periodically falling back into fits of giggles, those tickles had somehow sunk into his nerves and made a home for themselves there. After the second or third time it happened, Dick gathered Tim up in a hug and kissed the top of his head.Â
âStill giggly, huh?âÂ
âYeah,â Tim said, unable to wipe the grin off his face. âJusâ a little.â
Dick huffed a small, amused laugh. âAdorable.â
Tim didnât know what to do with that, so he squeezed his eyes shut again. âHn.âÂ
Dick adjusted his hold to nestle Tim more firmly against him, and Tim didnât even put up a token struggle â he wasnât Jason, he adored getting pressganged into Dickâs so-called octopus hugs. âAnd, hey. Iâm glad you had your friends over today, you should do that again. They think youâre great.âÂ
Ah. So Dick had clocked some of the underlying reasons between Timâs earlier words, even if they hadnât been beyond the bounds of normal brotherly snark. Once again, Tim found himself feeling a tad too perceived, but that came with the territory in a family of detectives, even if the emotional intelligence wasnât always a âŠ.visible trait, for some of them.Â
âYâthink?â he asked Dickâs shoulder.Â
âI do,â Dick replied, the affirmation rumbling through his chest and into Timâs ears. âAnd so do I.âÂ
Tim made an acknowledging sound and finally burrowed himself into Dickâs arms, stubbornly ignoring the voice in the back of his mind muttering about burrowing gremlins that sounded suspiciously similar to Jason. When Dick pulled the absurdly thick comforter up over both of them, Tim would have purred if he could.Â
âThânks,â he murmured instead.Â
He felt Dick press another kiss to the top of his head. âOf course. I told you to come find me if you have trouble falling asleep, and Iâm glad you did.âÂ
Tim couldnât help but smile, sleepy and content, with his older brotherâs warmth and company to scare off his more overzealous trains of thought. âMe too, Dee.â
here is the long awaited request for @lockedopus :â) I had a lot of fun with this eheh it was wholesome.. writing lee!bruce was kind of amazing I really enjoyed that HHH
could probably be read as superbat if thatâs your thing <:)
Bruce could only not think anything of it for so long until he had to intervene. âItâ being the fact that Dick decided he was feeling playful in the middle of a debrief with the commissioner. A debrief about potential signs of activity from Victor Zsaz. Serial murderer, criminally insane, all around bad news.
The moment a little gloved hand snuck around into his peripheral vision, he carefully stopped its path. Only for Dickâs other hand to shoot around and attempt to wiggle its way under his cowl.
Bruceâs shoulder twitched up towards his ear. Jim was never going to let him live this down.
âRobinââ
An entirely unapologetic snicker came from overhead, where he was carrying his son on his shoulders.
âAlright, alright⊠you just lost shoulder privileges.â He set Dick back on his feet. He didnât look too distraught about it, at least.
It was astonishing how much of a dad he had become in the, objectively, small amount of time heâd had the acrobat under his care. He regularly pulled out all the stops. Now, he was kneeling down to meet Dickâs eyes. He was only restless, Bruce could tell. He must have wanted to go home. There were significantly more safeguards set in place for Robin than usual because of the climate in the cityâs criminal underbelly.
It was understandable that a kid would get bored, and Dick was high energy by kid standards.
âThe nightâs almost over, hang in there.â He stood to his full height.
That little frown⊠pulling back his cape, Dick appeared happier to scuttle into the offered place of sanctuary.
Bruce exhaled a long, suffering sigh, slowly lifting his head to meet the commissionerâs eyes. He was sure he hadnât experienced this much dread since the last time Arkham Asylum security breach rumors began to circulate.
Jimâs expression gave nothing away. Bruce attempted to mirror that.
ââŠIââ
âYou know that I have a little girl. Just keep talking.â He more than understood. Chances were, he knew understood than Bruce did, and was a much more respectable father.
âRightâŠâ
* * *
Bruce was tired. Both Batman and Robin were out of any armor, having changed into something more comfortable. When he realized that Dick always seemed to get a second wind after patrol, heâd started keeping more practical activewear in the training deck. Tonight was no different.
Did his aching muscles want to play chase? No, not exactly, but he wasnât going to be as spry as he was now forever. Those aches would one day sink into his bones, and he hardly ever afforded himself any time to waste.
So, around and around they went, vaulting over and ducking under scattered equipment. Dickâs talent really shined in moments like this.
âYou know Iâm gonna catch you.â Eventually.
âNo!â He squeaked.
Ironically, after taking a second to peer over his shoulder, Dick didnât see the gym mat he was rapidly approaching. It came up to about his calves, heâd been running so fast that when they collided, he went head over heels.
The fact that it was a big rectangle of soft foam with the express purpose of cushioning falls marginally soothed Bruceâs spiking blood pressure.
He crashed down onto the mat next to Dick, setting a hand on the squirmy boyâs shoulder to roll him over onto his back.
âWell⊠I caught you. Now what should I do with you?â
The only response he got was frantic, boyish laughter.
âThatâs not an answer.â Bruce was trying to keep his tone flat, but a smile was creeping onto his face.
âOkay, okahay, ummâŠâ
âYou should let me stay home from school next weekâ no, forever. You should let me stay home from school forever.â
Dick was starting to giggle in the following silence, but didnât break eye contact as Bruce stared him down, who eventually huffed and let his smile take over.
âNice try.â Prodding lightly into Dickâs tummy already had him squealing.
Taking notice of this, Bruce solemnly hummed. âOh, Dickie, youâre in trouble.â
He hovered overhead, his little Robin free to wriggle around, though he never strayed far. Heâd rolled onto his side, arms outstretched, pawing at the mat below. Bruce spidered a hand up his side to sneak under his arm. The fallout was instant.
âgEHIT out of there!â Dick squeaked. He was surprised when, shortly after, Bruce listened.
He was then caught by the calf, legs pulled into his fatherâs lap where he sat cross legged.
âWeâll go under your knees instead.â He spoke like he was being charitable, the facade cracking with a chuff when Dick, as heâd predicted, began to babble incoherently. His following shriek had Bruce worrying about the potential for falling stalactites.
âInside voices, chum.â He coaxed, a quiet chuckle lacing his tone.
He shouted like this meant life or death. âsUPERMAN! SUPERMAN! Clark! Rescue meeEHEHE!â
Bruce slowly pulled back, releasing Dickâs leg as the words registered. As sweet as the bond between the two most upstanding, pure of heart individuals he knew was, it was late.
âI told you to only use that for emergencies.â
âMaybe this is an emergencyâŠâ The boy looked petulant. He probably knew that may not have been the best call, but he was stubborn, and wasnât changing his mind now. âClark said I can call for him whenever I want.â
Thatâs because heâs Clark. He would give up his life for you in a heartbeat.
âYeah, because he sees your little face and melts.â The teasing smile on Bruceâs lips was a rare sighting. He reached out a hand to pinch at his sonâs cheek, earning a wrinkled nose and a snort.
âWell thatâs not my faultââ The strong gust of wind that swept Dick away would have knocked Bruce into his back, had he not braced the ground with his hands.
âYou came!â Dick rejoiced. With Clark already holding him, he couldnât run up and glomp him to blow off steam. He instead looked to be squeezing as tight as he could manage.
âIâ Y⊠Yeah⊠yeah. Of course I did.â
Bruce didnât know if Kryptonians actually got winded, but Clark was ruffled, scanning the cave for any signs of imminent danger. He began to slowly collect himself. He did tell Dick that there wasnât ever a bad time, whatever he needed, Clark would get there as soon as he could.
He hadnât been in another galaxy on a suicide mission. Making himself look slightly more presentable and flying to Gotham wasnât a big deal. He would rather be called upon for something mundane than so much as imagine Dick in Bruceâs definition of an âemergency.â
Seeing how excitable the boy was, Clark was able to come down from most of his panic.
âSo, what am I rescuing you from, buddy?â He asked with a quiet smile. Dick pointed, and it had him raising an eyebrow.
âOh really?â He cocked his head.
Bruce had stood up by now. He was eyeing them from a few feet away, arms crossed, probably brooding.
âHey, Bruce, uh⊠late night, huh?â
Clark was too nice. It gave him the jitters. âIâ yes, crime doesnât sleep. Iâm sorry about⊠heââ
âHe has nothing to apologize for.â Clark hiked Dick up in his arms. Jitters.
âIâm glad you think so, I guess.â Bruceâs voice softened in a variety of ways, his gaze averting.
âDickie said Iâm rescuing him from you. What do you think about that?â
This was so stupid.
âI was teasing him.â Bruceâs frown was slowly starting to look less frown-like.
âHe was tickling me! On purpose!â Dick was set back down on the ground to take his stance, once again pointing in accusation.
âBecause you were pushing my buttons on patrol.â Bruce bent at the waist to better meet his sonâs eyes, unable to keep himself from smiling for any longer.
âYeah, well⊠Iâm a kid. Itâs okay when I do it.â The aforementioned kid overruled.
The adults in the room exchanged delighted glances. Cute.
Dick wasnât going to be a kid forever. That was the next best talking point, but Bruce wasnât sure he was any more ready to face that than his little Robin.
He quietly sighed. âYou really couldnât have called for Alfred?â
âAlfred needs his sleep, B.â Dick almost sounded chiding.
âWhat abouââ
Clark chimed in. âI donât need sleep in the same way a human does, let alone a man his age who hasnât retired.â He sounded very pleased with the fact that he was invulnerable to insomnia just like nearly everything else.
Alfred couldnât simply retire from being a father figure. He wouldnât know how. âButlerâ was nothing but a formality, he acted like a mother hen because thatâs what he was.
But that was personal. Bruce rubbed his hands over his face. âOkay, Iâve learned my lesson, Superman. You can go home now.â
âThatâs not justice and you know it.â
He did not like that smile on Clarkâs face, and that was saying something.
âSay what you mean.â He said it with more intensity than he would normally allow to rear its ugly head around Dick.
âWell⊠Iâm pretty sure the game goes, you tickle, you get tickled back.â Clarkâs body language painted a vivid picture. He was this close to getting one of his closest friends to let down one of the many walls he kept up. You would think Clark had toppled more of them by now. He hadnât.
âIs that what you think?â Bruce had donned his punchable billionaire smile.
âWhy would I be ticklish?â
Dick squinted at him. Even the little one could see that heâs bluffing.
âYouâre human, Bruce.â The phrase rolled off Clarkâs tongue with a sarcastic smile, like it was just so obvious.
He would never, ever get to know how that momentarily touched Bruceâs heart. But it did. It often didnât occur to Bruce that trying to be near superhuman was supposed to be out of his reach. It stripped him of his humanity.
Depressing, honestly. He shouldnât have to be reminded.
âMost people are at least a little ticklish.â
He had to come down from cloud nine. âIâm not like most peopleâŠâ a pathetic, mumbly excuse of a counterpoint.
âYouâre stalling.â Another thing that Clark saw as a very normal observation, another thing that rocked Bruceâs world.
âIâve got a job to do, canât leave justice waiting all night.â
Absolutely awed, Dick trotted along behind him like a fawn following a big buck. It took a moment for Bruce to conduct a thorough enough analysis of just what heâd gotten himself into.
Even if he were to have been honest, he couldnât have given Clark a concrete answer. People didnât tickle him. That was an insane, alien concept to most. Although, Clark did technically fall into a gray area on that front. More well adjusted than most of the human population, not necessarily human.
Bruce stood his ground as they crept closer. âYouâre not invincible, Clark.â
âYouâre going to resort to kryptonite because I threatened to tickle you?â That was a little too good of a point. The dark knightâs stomach turned.
âYouâre being ridiculousâŠâ He muttered, turning tail to approach the Batcomputer. Because what did Bruce always do when he was faced with something he didnât want to have to deal with? He threw himself into work.
Even if he was ticklish, if he somehow wouldnât be able to keep a hold of himself, then heâd clearly failed as an individual and needed to go for another round of global apprenticeship under the best of the best.
Bruce didnât foresee that happening. Sitting himself down, he began to boot up the various monitors looming over him.
âAre you hiding?â He could hear the smile in Clarkâs voice, who came up from behind to lean rest his arms over the back of the rolling chair.
Bruce was, if anything, entirely too visible for his liking. He momentarily tensed when fingertips tapped ever so gently against his side. As heâd suspected, he was able to gather himself with little trouble.
âWe can do this all night, youâre wasting your time.â A bold claim.
One that Clark took as an offer. âMaybe we will.â He hummed.
âYeah, Bruce, maybe we will.â Dick puffed up. So big and strong.
Bruce shook his head, remaining stone faced. It was, admittedly, difficult to focus on work. He couldnât so much as remember what it was that took priority. A very low bar.
He exhaled as the nagging feeling against his waist crawled upwards. Bruce was sure this would be a lot easier if he felt he could so much as move, but that was showing a sign of weakness.
âSomebodyâs getting a little tense.â Clark remarked with a smile.
He just couldnât win. Paralyzed wasnât the way to go, but that was how he stayed as a hand cupped his bicep, and lifted his arm.
âDown here, maybe?â It was mind boggling how a man with strength that neared godhood could be so gentle. Bruce was helpless to stop how he twitched at the fingers fluttering under his arm.
âYeah? Maybe?â
âIâll kill youââ His threat broke off into a soft, mirthful gasp, a quiver running through his body. He didnât have a contingency for this.
âStâ ughâŠâ He bit his tongue, twisting uncomfortably in his chair.
A second hand began to cautiously pinch at his waist. Bruce didnât know what to do with himself, not a single part. His arm wasnât stuck, Clark wouldnât do that unless he wanted Bruce to wake up with bruised knucklesâ men of steel didnât get bloody noses.
He couldnât commit to any sudden movements regardless. Seeing stars, he just stayed there, shuffling about in his seat like an idiot. The sharp huffs heâd been letting out through his nose were getting dangerously close to resembling laughter.
âYouâre not used to this.â Clark was sympathetic. Endeared, in a way.
No, of course he wasnât. Before Dick came into Bruceâs life, the extent of physicality he engaged in was a hand on the shoulder from Alfred, and Brucie Wayne sleeping with bachelorettes who he didnât care about. That wasnât counting the combat Batman engaged in most nights.
âI⊠I dohonâtââ You laughed, is what you did. He turned down to face his lap. He was sure he was burning up. A neuron finally decided it wanted to fire, and one arm came down to wrap around his torso.
That did little to stop âjustice.â The rush Bruce got trying to protect himself from something that wouldnât hurt momentarily might have put some of the light back into his eyes. He breathed out something resembling âoh my god,â posture hunching further.
Clark was the only thing keeping their fugitive from rolling away when Dick suddenly bounced up onto Bruceâs lap. A collective oof came with the impact.
When little fingers wriggled into the crook of his neck, Bruceâs nervous system flared in a way he could only remember from his early childhood. His shoulder jerked up with much more force than he would have liked. It was less a matter of sparing his pride by this point and more about not crushing Dickâs hand like a bug.
A surprised laugh followed, one that he was grateful was significantly louder and more boisterous than his own. Heâd lost their game a while ago now, he felt it in the hitch (and warmth) of his chest.
âIs that the spot, Robin?â
The goofy grin Dick directed towards Clark told him everything he needed to know.
He wasnât sure what he should expect. He scratched a pointer finger against the nape of Bruceâs neck, the quiet âtickle, tickleâ that he gave was mostly ironic. He too wasnât sure he could have prepared himself for the way his friend, the hardass who still occasionally tried to insist they were only coworkers, responded.
Bruce tossed his head back, his smile was wide, but simultaneously timid. His eyes were squeezed shut, and the sound of what would have been a laugh muffled through his teeth.
Clark never had that conversation with Ma or Pa Kent, he didnât think he had to, all things considered, but he knew a beautiful man when he saw one. He didnât see much of Bruce without his cowl, and Batman rarely smiles. He couldnât imagine why, it was so charming. He was starting to think that needed to change.
âI⊠hah, umâŠâ Bruceâs voice was lacking its usual sternness.
âI think youâve humiliated me enough for one night.â He settled for sarcasm.
Dick squealed when he was swept up and draped over his broad shoulders like some kind of scarf.
âAnd I think youâve caused plenty of trouble.â He murmured in a voice that let the boy know he was off the hook because it was bedtime. All of that yipping and yowling settled into quieter, content titters.
Clark eyed them, wearing the small smile that he didnât think had left him since he started this. Dynamic duo.
âGet out of my cave.â
He blinked. âWell⊠alright. Are you gonna be nice while Iâm gone?â
Bruce flushed, his lips twitching. âOut.â
Clark grinned. He left with a kiss to Dickâs forehead and a âsleep tight.â
* * *
Bruce had been tucking Dick in for about half an hour now. It wasnât meant to be this long of a process, but Dick wouldnât stop raving about the nightâs events.
âChum. Enough.â He smoothed back his sonâs hair, whose wide eyes made him resemble a cat whose forehead got pet a little too hard.
âBut BâŠâ Dick whined, shaking his hair back into place. âI like when you laugh.â
Bruceâs mind went quiet for a moment. Such an outlandish concept.
âNow you tell me âthank you.ââ A sidekick always had a smart remark.
âOh, where are my manners?â That drew a giggle from the boy. He let a smile cross his face, as real as he knew how.
âThank you⊠youâre very sweet.â He didnât know what heâd done to deserve a second chance at a family after the path of vengeance heâd gone down. Bruce needed Dick just as badly as Dick needed him.
âYouâre such a good kid, you know that?â He didnât say it nearly as much as he should.
Dick preened, his dimples deep in his cheeks. He was happy.
âYou want me to stay with you for a bit?â They didnât do it every night. It was normally Dick seeking Bruce out if he couldnât fall asleep. They would end up back in his bedroom, Bruce would sit with him and stroke his hair until he knew Dick was off in dreamland.
Perking up at the offer, he scrambled to get comfortable like Bruce was going to change his mind. The affectionate smile being cast down on him was the last thing Dick would see before being soothed into a deep slumber. What a sight for sore eyes.

Bruce not telling anyone in the JL his identity and one day he casually mentions something only an orphan would understand.
- The JL members who are orphans understand. The others don't.
- The entire JL gets concerned.
Tim's nervous (Read: really scared) around Jason. Jason does not like this and wants to fix it. Wait, why does Bruce glare daggers at Jack Drake?
- Jason: I sense child neglect. Dad's already onto it, i see. Ok so how do i use this to get Tim stop fleeing the room whenever i walk in.
Sort of an AU fic where Bruce and Oliver were close friends (Read: brothers and that's what they see each other as) as kids, still as adults, and as vigilantes they work pretty well together, they recognized each other instantly even in cape, and while the the JL doesn't know their identities, each knows the other.
- Also they're both autistic and somehow chaos ensues after Flash overhears them talking one day at the Watchtower and now the JL wants to know how these work so well.
Bruce was a wild child and so is Damian.
Jason adjusting to being under a roof, right after Bruce found him.
The first days of Tim's being Robin. Bruce and Dick are concerned, while, oblivious, Tim is doing things that only neglected kids do. He is surprised others care. Dick sets out to change this.
AU where Jack ends up being a crap dad. Bruce has had enough and steals legal custody.
- Bruce: Well you had one chance at being a dad and you blew it.
- Bruce: Tim's my kid now.
- Jack can't do anything about this. To Tim, Jack is 'Father'. Bruce is 'Dad'.
Some of the villains notice that the other vigilantes and even Red Robin himself like joking that 'RR's folks don't even notice that he practically lives at our place, they won't notice him sneaking back in at 2AM'.
- Until one day they joke about 'RR's dad blew it. B took legal custody'.
Flash has ADHD but tells no one. The other see the signs tho. Batman calls him out on hiding it. Why Bat? Welp, the other nominated him. GA joins his autistic buddy tho.
This isn't Batfam but Billy/Captain Marvel accidentally drops some street child stuff. The League, of course, pick it up.
Bruce has trust issues. No specific event- just it was that way after his folks died. The JL figures it out that it's not just how he is, he just generally doesn't trust people. They figure out that something happened to make him this.
The JL has to come to Gotham for a mission. They have to stakeout in a graveyard. At some point while they still have a few hours, Batman slips off. When *insert any JL member(s)* find him, he's standing above two graves. They catch him saying "Hope you're proud, Mom, Dad."
- Chaos ensues from this.
Kid!Dick has a nightmare. Bruce allows his kid to spend the night with him.
Cass gets into a fight with David Cain. She is shaken. Bruce is there for her, though.
Duke has a nightmare.
Tim tries to sneak outside after having a nightmare. Bruce catches him because he's a Dad. He sensed a disturbance in the force. Anyway instead of getting mad he makes it clear who Dick learned it from and tickles Tim to bits and then carries him back to bed lol.
That's all i got for now lol. Might update it if i get more ideas.
There was no way in hell Jason Todd would ever do a trust fall.
He actually laughed when Dick told him about it. Jason didn't trust anyone with his safety, and that included being dropped on the floor by one of his siblings.
Though, a chance to drop someone on their ass was tempting. And what kind of brother would he be if he said no?
So here he was. Arms crossed in the Batcave while standing alongside Tim and Damian. Dick stood on the mats and explained the rules.
"One: no letting someone fall on purpose-"
Jason threw up his hands. "I'm out."
"Rule two: I'll buy lunch for whoever participates.
Jason sighed and crossed his arms again. "Guess I'm back in."
Dick smiled and continued his explanation. "All you have to do is catch the person falling into you and then let them catch you when it's your turn. Itâs supposed to make us work better as a team."
âTch, I do not see the point in this. We work together fine when we are in the field.â Damian said as he joined Jason in crossing his arms.
âYou let me fall last week.â Tim retorted.
âThere was a dumpster to catch you.â
âIâll put you in a dumpster, you littleâ!â
Dick held his hand up and sighed. âAlright, well at least this makes picking partners easier. Tim, youâre with Jason. Damian, youâre with me.â
Jason rolled his eyes and played along. The sooner he did this, the sooner he got a free lunch. âCâmon Timbo. Iâll catch you.â
Tim raised an eyebrow at Jason, trying to guess the odds of Jason just dropping him for a laugh. âIf I fall, Iâll shave one of your eyebrows while you sleep.â
âJust get over here, will ya?â
Tim sighed and headed over to Jason. He held his arms out in a T-pose and glanced back at Jason for half a second. âReady?â
Jason held his arms out and planted his feet so Tim wouldnât knock him over when he went back. âReady. You can fall now.â
Jason watched as Tim took a deep breath and tilted back. Jason caught him easily, right under the arms. âWow. Just as stupid as when Dick pitched it.â Jason said as he adjusted his fingers. Unfortunately for Jason, Tim squirmed and almost fell out of his arms.
âJeez Tim! What the hell was that?â
âYouâre tickling me, asshole! Youâve got your fingers in my armpits!â Tim said through giggles as he tried to get to his feet. But Jason wasnât having that, no way. If he had to be stuck doing this, he would at least have some fun with it. So when Tim tried to get to his feet, Jason yanked him a bit just to keep him from standing.
âWhatâd you call me?â Jason said as he wiggled his fingers on purpose this time. âIâm a what?â
Tim squealed and his legs pushed uselessly against the mats. Jason was holding him low enough to where standing up was difficult, even more so when being tickled.
âI said youâre an asshole!â
âDid you now?â Jason smirked and lowered Tim down a bit more before dropping him onto the mats. Tim immediately rolled over on his stomach and tried to crawl away, but Jason was fast. He grabbed Timâs ankle and lifted it up in the air. âYour escape routes need work. Let me give you some incentive.â Jason chuckled as his fingers touched down on Timâs foot.
Tim burst into boyish giggles and immediately started kicking Jason. âDick! Dick heâs tickling!â Tim called out, hoping to be saved from this. Luckily, Dick came to his rescue. Jason felt someone (Dick) squeeze his ribs from behind. That was enough for him to drop Timâs foot and turn around. âWhat? The kid was asking for it. I couldnât even catch him cause he was so ticklish. You stuck me with a rotten partner.â
Tim glared at Jason and got to his feet. âSee how you like it when youâre the one falling. Maybe Iâll let you drop for tickling me.â
Jason scoffed and gave Tim a gentle shove. âYou drop me and Iâm tickling you until your face matches my helmet. Now come on, Tim. I want a free lunch.â
Tim looked at Dick, who just shrugged and went back to Damian likely to do the same thing Tim and Jason were about to do. Tim positioned himself behind Jason and held out his arms. âTry not to crush me?â
Jason rolled his eyes but couldnât keep himself from snorting. âYeah yeah, whatever you say.â Then Jason took a breath and tilted back. He wasnât shocked when immediately after catching him, Tim tried to tickle him back. But Jason was ready for this. He grabbed Timâs arm and flung him over his shoulder and onto the mat. âSorry little brother, you know how reflexes can be.â
Tim groaned as his back hit the mat. Then Jason stepped over him and sat down on his thighs, pinning him to the floor. âUnfortunately, I canât let you get away with trying to tickle me. Even if you failed miserably at it.â
Timâs eyes widened and he immediately looked over at Dick and Damian, who were actually succeeding in their trust falls. âDick! Heâs doing it again!â
This time, both Dick and Damian turned their heads to see what was going on. Dick sighed and murmured something to Damian, but Tim hardly had any time to figure out what it was. Jason was already drilling his fingers into Timâs ribs. Tim shrieked and grabbed at Jasonâs wrists.
âYouâre so stupidly ticklish, I bet your clothes tickle when you put them on. Is that why youâre so jittery? Cause your shirt fibers are tickling you all day?â Jason teased with a smirk. Tickling Tim was so easy, the poor kid was useless when he was tickled. Not to mention his reactions were perfect.
âJason please! Iâm sorry!â Tim begged through his laughter, but Jason wasnât giving up. He was ready to teach Tim a hard lesson until two pairs of hands touched down on his neck and back.
âDo you really have to tickle Drake all the time? He screams, itâs annoying.â Damianâs familiar voice rang out.
âCâmon Damian, Jasonâs just teaching Tim a lesson. The same lesson weâre about to teach him.â Dickâs voice joined in. Jason immediately let go of Tim and tried to grab at the hands he now realized were Dickâs and Damianâs.
âW-Whatâ?! What the fuck?â Jason sputtered as he tried to hold in his laughter.
âYou really think you could betray Timâs trust by tickling him during the trust fall? Thatâs not very trustworthy of you. I think Damian and I need to teach you some trust.â Dick chuckled and practically dragged Jason off Tim and onto his back. Jason rolled his eyes at how many times Dick managed to fit âtrustâ into that sentence.
Damian grabbed one of Jasonâs wrists while Dick grabbed the other. Each of them silently deciding where to target first. But the really cherry on top? Tim was up now, and looming over Jason with a smile that shook Jason to his core.
âYeah Jay, theyâre right. You betrayed my trust, so maybe you need to trust that we wonât tickle you all the way to tears.â Tim said while wiggling his fingers over Jason.
Jason sighed, resigning to his very obvious fate. But not about to let them get him without one more threat.
âThe only thing I trust is how screwed each of you are after this.â
The Batcave would be filled with Jasonâs laughter after that. And Jason would learn never to mess around during a trust fall again.
briefing: sequel to mission failed successfully!! for three days, tim drake takes being tickled way too seriously. until he canât anymore.
Iâm trying to practice a less convoluted writing process. so no êê needed <:)
Day one, 14 hours post encounter, 4:01 AM.
This was good. Tim was so good. Why hadnât he saved himself the headache of scrawling out five separate contingencies when his way of life already put him at an advantage?
Dick was a boy scout. Everybody knew that. So, if it was up to him, heâd be in bed by ten most nights. Tim was nocturnal. Not even nocturnal, sleep simply evaded him. Maybe he evaded it. Everyone similarly knew that about him, but they should mind their own business.
No matter. All that it really meant was that Tim shouldnât bump into Dick if he very carefully regimented his days, and he did that anyway. It wasnât that he genuinely didnât want to see Dick, but this was a game now. And Tim won all of the little games he created for himself. This was his mind field, and he was the lifelong champion.
The manor was quiet, and outside of the Batcave, the walls were relatively thin. It was an old home. So that had to mean he was the only one up. The kitchen light was on, but that didnât have to mean anything, no cause for recourse yet. People accidentally left lights on all the time, and even if someone was there, it was a one in half a dozen chance it was Dick. He just needed a glass of water, maybe a sleeve of saltine crackers.
Tim could hardly believe his luck when he saw who was at the counter with a bowl of cereal. Maybe he could find a glass in someone elseâs bedroom, sometimes Alfred would leave one for those who didnât particularly like walking around in the dark. Even if they woke up and caught him, surely theyâd understand. He was a goddamn hero, getting back at Dick in the way he did.
Dick perked up before Tim could slither back into his blind spot. He offered a small smile. He appeared sleepy and generally unthreatening. âMorning.â
Tim navigated the room along its perimeter, maintaining a distance from Dick that could compensate for any missteps and still give him a fighting chance at a tactical retreat. âGood morning.â
âWhyâre you all the way over thereâŠ?â Not the confused puppy head tilt. Anything but that. Did Dick seriously not remember? He must have been very sleepy. As if Tim was going to fall for that.
âThis is where the air vents on the floor are. My, um. My feet are cold.â Not entirely a lie. Tim did do that sometimes and had suggested it to anyone else who suffered from similar symptoms.
âHuh.â Dickâs clueless smile remained.
ââKay.â
Tim filled himself a glass of water. He knew what Dick was doing, acting all cutesy, and in a battle of wits and trickery, Tim would beat him every time. He took his eyes off his assailant for a fraction of a second, and the moment he saw the shadow on the wall, he swung around and clapped his hands together right next to Dickâs ear.
âAH! Jesus christ!â Dick hissed, bringing a hand up to said ear. âHow do you know I wasnât just going to get food from the fridge or something??â
Tim, blissfully unaware that he looked like the biggest dweeb in the world right now, tapped twice at his temple. âI got a SIXTH SENSE.â
âSixth sense this!â Dick dove for him one more time and failed. Tim took off down the hallway, flying up the stairs and locking himself in his bedroom. He sunk down against the door, frantically giggling when Dick rattled it a few times. Heâd just barely made it.
âYou are so dead, Tim.â
All he could do was laugh a little louder.
Day two, 22 hours post encounter, 12:25 PM.
Tim spent most of his day at Wayne Enterprises, in and out of board rooms, at his desk arranging Power Points, staring dead eyed at the Keurig. Office things. It wasnât that taxing for him anymore. It had been an adjustment, going from student to another cog in the corporate infrastructure. But vigilantism would always prove itself to be worse, no matter how bad a day heâd had.
He wasnât entering the manor unarmed, of course. Heâd prepared printed copies of the appropriate blackmail the night before in case of an emergency. He futzed with his keys for too long, they jingled too loudly. There was a chance Dick would be waiting for him when he came inside. Heâd be ready.
He was greeted by Alfred The Cat first, the feline chittering at him and rubbing up against his shins. Tim couldnât resist meowing back. Damian wasnât far behind, which was to be expected.
âAre you and Grayson still at odds?â Tim would bet anything Dick had lost a couple of respect points when he tickled him in front of Damian. Heâd been demoted from Richard to Grayson again. Tim couldnât help the smug smile that twitched on his features at the thought.
âYour expression is unsettling.â
Tim gave a subtle roll of his eyes, beginning to loosen his tie. âIâm going to disregard that because itâs coming from you. And to answer your question, yes, weâre still going.â
âHe will be waiting for you in the laundry closet.â
A muffled groan of, âDamiannnn-nuh!â could be made out from that general direction.
âAs much as I would normally loathe to partake in your nonsense, this has been devastating for Graysonâs image, and it is long overdue.â
âGive me my cat.â With that, Damian lifted Alfred into his arms and marched away.
Tim had to admit, he felt ten feet tall with Damianâs support, of all people. And the rest of the day went off without a hitch. Because Dick knew that if he and Damian ever learned to get along, theyâd be unstoppable. He wasnât about to add fuel to the fire of their allyship.
Day three, 49 hours post encounter, 3:33 PM.
Tim had always believed three was his lucky number. Third timeâs the charm, third in the Robin lineup, and it looked pretty okay when he looked up what the number three meant in angel numbers. Good stuff.
But now he was playing cat and mouse with his big brother in the dark theater room, biting down on his bunched up sleeve to stay quiet as he stalked through the rows of seats, singing at Tim to, âCome out, come out wherever you are!â
Tim had wedged himself underneath the seats, and already watched Dick pass quite a few times. Maybe if he just waited it out for long enough, Dick would go look somewhere else, and that would give him a chance to get away.
âI expected you to start giggling like crazy by now. I guess youâve toughenened up, little bird. Youâve certainly risen to the occasion, and itâs givinâ me a run for my money. It is not cool.â
Tim stifled a snort. Fortunately, Dick chose to sit on the arm of one of the squeaky old seats around the same time, so the sound was drowned out.
âOh well! Weâve still got all week.â The door creaked. Tim went completely lax against the carpet.
That was when he heard it. âRobin, report.â
Dickâs impression was uncanny, he didnât stand a chance. Timâs brain flipped the override switch, any of his previous plans were sidelined, and could only think of one thing. Report to Batman. He sputtered out something resembling the response he always gave to Batmanâs call, slamming his head against the bottom of the chair as he scrambled out from under it.
Dickâs following cackle couldnât be described as evil, it was victorious. âI got you!â He leaped from chair to chair, and before Tim could even fully process what had happened, heâd been scruffed by the collar of his shirt.
He smiled very nicely.
âDo you have any idea how much trouble youâre in?â Dick wrangled his arms behind his back like he was actually arresting Tim.
âYou canât use your Batman voice! Thatâs so unfair!â
âYou have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.â
Tim dug his heels into the carpet, pushing against Dick and straining back the tittering he felt itching in his throat. Dickâs pointer and middle finger ruthlessly wiggled into the softest part of his side, accompanied by a buzzing noise Dick made right by his ear. Timâs self control caved in terribly, and he burst into silly sounding, high pitched giggles.
Well. Tim had lost. As he reveled in that, already laughing uncontrollably just knowing what was about to happen, Dick wrestled him onto the floor on his back like heâd done a million times before. Tim squirmed as much as he could, but by that point, his fate was more than sealed. Dick just sat, poised above him for a moment and watched. He pretended he was confused, but was loving every second of this.
âMan, I donât even have to do anything. It looks like youâve got a pretty bad case of the giggles.â Tim couldnât respond.
âCalm down, baby bird! CALM DOWN!â Dick shook Tim around by his shoulders. That only made things a hundred times worse, and Tim knew that Dick knew it would. Tim was helpless to stop himself, and his sides were already starting to ache. Every time Dick so much as blinked his stomach would lurch and heâd crack all over again. Dick had to turn away a couple times and bring a hand to his mouth so he didnât catch the giggles too.
âThatâs alright, I can wait!â Dick said all too cheerily. His fingers tapped impatiently on the ground way too close to Timâs hip. Tim let out another shrieking peal of laughter. âOh my godâŠâ Dick chuckled to himself.
A soft knock at the door was enough to suck all the air out of the room for a moment. Cool because now Tim wasnât two hiccups away from tears, not cool because he had been loud enough to attract one or more personsâ attention. That never got any less embarrassing, somehow.
Dim, warm light flooded the room as the door opened to reveal Bruce and Alfred. Bruce was morally ambiguous in these situations, but Alfred was like a guardian angel. Unfortunately, he didnât look too amused.
âPLEHEHEASE!â Tim squealed, frantically shifting as far as he could onto his side and waving his arms at them. Dick snorted and shoved him back down by the shoulder.
âAre you boys quite alright.â Alfred deadpanned. Bruce, over six feet and two hundred pounds of pure, concentrated vigilance, looked like he was going to wither away any moment now. At least as close as Batman got to looking like that.
âI havenât even touched him, I swear. Timmyâs having the fits again.â Something in Dickâs expression must have made them believe him. Bruce and Alfred exchanged weary, but fond looks.
âDo please see that he makes a full recovery, Master Dick.â
Alfred had vanished from the doorway. Bruce lingered, trying to get a good look at Tim before he decided it was okay to leave. Cass must have materialized behind him, and her presence was only made known when her head poked up, chin nestling onto Bruceâs shoulder.
âTheyâre having fun. Let them. Time to sleep for Batman.â Although still a little dazed, Bruce let Cass lead him away.
Tim had calmed down the littlest bit. In catching his breath, heâd thrown his arms out to either side of him. Bad idea. Dickâs clawed hands were raised menacingly almost all the way above him for dramatic effect. He didnât waste any time, hands diving down and scribbling at Timâs tummy with a, âTickle, tickle, tickle!â that was typical of him. Tim threw his head back against the carpet, lost to silent laughter. His hands and feet scrabbled uselessly at the floor, taking him absolutely nowhere.
And then Dick stopped. Timâs wheezing slowly subsided, and he stared rather awkwardly. Thatâs it? Dick snorted.
âI just wanted to scare ya a little bit. Even if itâs obviously the highlight of your day every time I do this, youâve gotta breathe.â
âOh. Yeah⊠I kinda do.â Tim lolled his head to the side. If Dick was just messing with him, he wouldnât feel like a bug under a microscope right now. It wasnât just the truth in Dick said, it was his tone. It was real. A little too real.
They sat in silence, and once enough time had passed, they were well within the threshold for Dick to feel like he did something wrong and say something cheesy. He softly sighed, shifting off of his perch on Timâs hips to sit down next to him. Here we go again.
âItâs fine, you know. It would be a whole lot worse if we were tickling you all the time and you hated it. Itâs fun. I tease you a lot because thatâs standard procedure, but itâs genuinely something weâve bonded over at this point.â
Tim kicked his legs out and hoisted himself into a sitting position. He had a difficult time lifting his gaze from his lap. It felt like no matter how many times someone told him that, it wasnât ever enough. Heâd still manage to convince himself that he was making people uncomfortable, that they felt some sort of obligation.
âI can hear you overthinking this. You just gotta trust me, alright? It never fails to make me smile when I hear your weird little squirrel laugh from halfway across the manor.â
Tim couldnât help the grin that pulled at his features. âWeird little squirrel laugh.â Strangely accurate.
âIâll still do it, if you want. Youâve probably suffered enough, and I donât want you busting a lung. But I used to do this thing when you fell asleep next to me in the Batmobile,â He fluttered his pointer finger over the nape of Timâs neck, smiling when Tim curled up in the same way he always did. âI liked to see how much I could get away with before you woke up and complained to B.â Dick had the post-cheesy-discussion smile on his face. Chances were, Tim did too. But it wasnât anywhere near as bad as when Dick did it. It just wasnât.
âYeah. I think I remember that.â He definitely remembered. Half the time, he was pretending to be asleep just so that it would happen. Dick probably knew that, but he didnât say anything, which Tim appreciated.
Dick hummed. He soon began to guide Tim onto his lap, laying sideways, back facing him. When Tim shimmied around to get comfortable, Dick took that as his green light. The touch ranged from barely there tracing or skittering along his back, ears, and neck, about as present when Alfred The Catâs whiskers brushed your skin. That made him smile and shiver. To more playful plucking squeezes to his side, ribs, or shoulder blades. Those made Tim twitch, giggle, and look back to shoot Dick his best attempt at a dirty look.
Things ramped down naturally though when Timâs breathing began to even and slow. His eyes had been fixated on the same spot on the floor for some time now, and they were drooping.
âI may fall asleep.â He admitted.
âMhm, I noticed. Hallelujah.â Dick playfully replied. âNot here, though.â He moved to scoop Tim up, pausing when he felt his brother tense significantly.
âYou⊠you donât gotta carry meâ itâs fine.â
The kicked puppy face. It was falling into place on Dickâs features. âIf you get up to walk, you may get all restless again and try to find something to do. Sleep doesnât come easy to you, Tim.â
Tim wasnât reluctant because of Dick. Dick could carry him, Tim would probably melt into it like a total loser. He was reluctant because of who might see, what they may think. Dick sighed.
âIf it makes you feel any better, I still jump on Bâs back from time to time to be annoying.â Dick awkwardly smiled. âSometimes he doesnât let me get down.â
Tim returned a small smile of his own. It was a nice thought. A cute little anecdote. It didnât fully quell his insecurities.
âJust⊠let me prove you wrong. I promise youâll feel better.â
Let me prove you wrong. Did Dick even know him? Regardless, Tim found himself too pliant to argue. So, Dick lifted him up, and they left for the family room. Tim felt his heart rate increase in congruence with the sound of the familyâs chatter, but there wasnât some grand, silent moment of judgement when he knew theyâd arrived.
Jason spoke first, Damian was sat next close to him, and didnât speak, too engrossed in the book theyâd been sharing. âYou put Timmers through the wringer, didnât you?â
Dick set Tim down in a large, cushy armchair they normally reserved for naps and tossed a blanket over him. He was fully submerged, the way he liked it. A sort of Tim shaped blanket now occupied the chair.
Dick joined him, sitting on the armrest. âYou know me. Had to bust out the big guns.â
âSo, basically, he laughed hard enough to make himself throw up. For, like, thirty minutes. At literally nothing.â
âBingo!â
âI believe Drake sees spirits. Things we do not. There is no other logical explanation.â Damian murmured, snatching the book from Jason, who scoffed, but let their little brat have it.
Tim was briefly exposed to the outside world again when Cass lifted the blanketâs corner to peek at Tim. âWill you nap?â
Tim nodded. âHopefully.â She smiled and carefully tucked the blanket back over Timâs head.
âLucky day.â
The hushed living room chatter acted as ambiance, the most comforting kind, and was quickly lulling Tim off to sleep. Heâd been able to challenge Dick for about as long as he anticipated, so he hadnât technically lost, right? The only thing heâd lost in all of this was the quiet ache of loneliness that still crept up on him from time to time.
