Adding onto this post; here are some other Dair-Jeric parallels
-seem like opposites attract, but are actually very similar (Dair loving the same books and movies having Cabbage Patch kid dolls/Jeric being hopeless romantics and getting teased for their passions. For more content, check out this meta post from @sulietsexual
-JE & DB's previous relationships were abusive (JK (I count them s abusive since it's canon that Kelso would pressure Jackie into sex)/CB) or just plain unhealthy (DS/ED)
-Dan/Eric are the "straight men" (not in that way, they're both bi af), while Blair/Jackie are the queen bees with hearts of gold
-enemies to lovers
-Dair and Jeric start out hating each other and their love for Serena/Donna are the only things keeping them together, but they do grow to have a genuine bond (even if neither of the writers cared about them)
-they both try to hide their friendships (Dair's secret friendship in s4/Jeric agreeing not to tell people they're friends...also in s4)
-this and this
-neither ship being endgame in favor of the ships that are "meant to be" (CB & DS/ED & JK), despite how unhealthy and just downright awful they are as couples

I get that he kinda got his ass kicked sometimes in og db, but really what is UP with all the Yamcha hate? He's resilient, he's determined and shows that he cares immensely for all his friends! He was there for Krillin and Goku so much, even just as a supporter he still showed so much! God, when the internet reduces a character to one characteristic it's the worst. Tho I guess that can go for every single db character too
I was going to say âIf I could comprehend why dragon ball fans have such a deep hate for Yamcha I would tell youâ- But you know what? I will give you my opinion on why Yamcha cops so much hate, under the cut of course...
Okay, the first thing you bring up about him getting his ass kicked certainly plays a part in it.
Dragon Ball is shonen, fighting is the predominant part of the manga/anime- there are a lot of dragon ball fans, not necessarily the db fans who you will find on tumblr, but db fans generally are obsessed with power levels, with ranking, with fights- Yamcha is nowhere near as weak of a fighter as fans and dragon ball super make out- for most all of Dragon Ball and Z Yamcha was on par with the other humans, especially Krillin. Yamchaâs trouble with fighting often came down to two things-
The first being they couldnât have him winning his bouts at the tournament because they needed those final fights to be dedicated to Goku.
Secondly, one of Yamchaâs flaws toward the end of db and into Z was that he could be cocky, he could be overconfident of his abilities- these are flaws I appreciate about Yamcha, it fleshes his character out, it makes him more well rounded and it also makes the fact we see him go from being cocky and sort of brash in battle to more reflective and honest about his strengths and weaknesses genuinely so wonderful.
Like Yamcha telling Marron that Krillin was stronger than him during the Buu era tournament (which he didnât enter because he actually was realistic of his abilities against LITERAL aliens) is a truly sweet scene- but if youâre obsessed with power levels, sweet scenes reflecting on personal growth arenât really high on the list of things to remember, whereas dead in a hole haha meme is a lot easier to share-
The second reason/s I firmly believe db fans are so negative about Yamcha? Bu/ma and Vege+a, now if you love Bu/ma or Vege separate or together, I have no qualms- enjoy yourself, I am not having a go at you for that at all!!
But with that disclaimer out of the way I will say I firmly believe if Yamcha had dated another character, like say Launch, there wouldnât be anywhere near the same amount of vitriol? I think a lot of it comes down to a subset of fans who decided Yamcha was the perfect villian for the vege/bul relationship, which is honestly confusing since vege was the one who essentially was responsible for her friends and boyfriends deaths? Like how is Yamcha the bad guy in that? Well honestly heâs not but the absolutely huge popularity of that ship has resulted in Yamcha copping a lot of shit because he was Bu/maâs âfirst loveâ and I think that annoys a certain subset of fans a lot?
So in turn they make him into this cheating wretch who bu/ma had to escape, when in actuality they had an on and off again relationship and are still fairly good friends, good enough that Yamcha refers to himself as âUncleâ to her kids? You would never know this if you simply view a lot of fan works- Yamcha in fan works is represented as possessive, cruel and sleazy- all characteristics that even in canon when the show/manga is being less than kind to Yamcha he never actually exhibits-
So yeah, that's my opinion- Part of it is âHaha yamcha weakâ which is funny in and of itself just because I doubt these people would be happy if characters like Yamcha and Krillin constantly won?
and part of it is Yamchaâs attachment to Bu/ma, she is very beloved and so is her relationship with Vege, so for whatever reason that makes a lot of fans very unnecessarily harsh towards Yamcha.
Bonus points for: I have never watch og Dragon Ball as well.
Thinking a lot about Yamchaâs characterization and the fact that it  doesnât make sense, which is funny because having just re-watched db and dbz Yamchaâs characterization is actually pretty consistent, so why then would I say that his characterization doesnât make sense? Well in actuality his characterization throughout the anime that we actually get to see does make sense, itâs the things weâre told that donât really add up, key factor being his supposed âWomanizingâ.
The whole âYamchaâs a womanizerâ thing is so genuinely funny to me, like we have a character that is introduced as being terrified of women to such a degree that when this desert dwelling kid hears about magic dragon balls that could supposedly grant any wish, instead of wanting to wish for a billion zenni or a big mansion or super powers, he wants to wish his anxiety about girls away. The same boy says he longs to be married and settled down.
Throughout DB and into DBZ he and Bulma are shown to care a lot about each other but itâs just a fact that the relationship is on and off. We get a throwaway line about him taking someone else to a concert? but we also have seen Bulma having eyes for other guys before this so like... pot meet kettle (but also they both were super young and it was on and off so like, whoâs to judge??) in some dodgy filler episodes that arenât in the manga Krillinâs gf makes a pass at him and he just acts like an awkward clown, his awkwardness does suggest that heâs still not truly over his fear of women but again we hardly see him interact with any women beside the core female cast, mostly Bulma and ChiChi.
Then he gets killed and Bulma is genuinely upset because she did love him even if they werenât truly steady but by the time everythings happening on Namek it seems like Yamchaâs fairly far from her mind (even making a pass at Zarbon) and Yamcha doesnât seem to be thinking much about Bulma either (Iâll just gloss over the fact Yamcha told Tien he would stay dead with him and Chiaotzu for, like, maybe ever and when Tien said isnât Bulma waiting for you, Yamcha just said âYeah, but...â which... đ )
He comes back to earth and then they get back together before their relationship finally fizzles out for good (mostly off screen, no less) We learn from future Trunkâs that Yamcha apparently cheated on Bulma and thatâs why she finally ended it but again this is a different timeline, we never see it, etc. Some might say that they wanted a cool purple haired saiyan and Bulma and Vegeta just happened to work well for that so how can they get rid of the long term bf without having to actually put effort into the writing...
After that we never see him being a hardcore ladies man, if they really wanted to hammer home the womanizer thing they could have had a different girl on his arm every other saga but they didnât do that, and the thing is if they had done that it would have been character growth, perhaps negative character growth but growth nonetheless.
And then we get that little tidbit from Toriyama that after Z Yamcha is still so awkward and nervous around women and thatâs why heâs still single in his 40â˛s. Heâs so awkward in fact that when he tried to work at a host club he was fired.
So now you tell me, does Yamcha being a womanizer make a single iota of sense or is it just inconsistent writing?
And I've forgotten how much of a drag a show can be when your indifferent to the main character. Every time Goku talks, I long for Naruto, who was clearly based on Goku and was a vast improvement. It comes down to this: Freeza is torturing Gohan and talking about how devastated Goku will when he finds out that Freeza has destroyed his home and loved ones. But I don't think he would be. He'd be pissed but it wouldn't break him. He would get over it and train with more gods or some shit. Goku doesn't have the ability to love deeply and his motivations are profoundly selfish. Saving the world is just a side bonus of fighting strong people. Which could work as a character. A shallow fight hungry alien who is borderline sociopathic by human standards could be interesting, but the narrative barely touches on it. Piccolo's horror at Goku throwing his nine year old child to a blood thirsty monster and grinning as he was tortured was a start but it didn't go anywhere. I don't mean becoming a better man - we get that with Vegeta -Goku having a different arc would be refreshing. But in terms of impact. His relationships suffering, his actions having impact, having internal conflict of some sort. Say what you want about Naruto, but his character grew and he had impact. He earned loyalty through his actions outside the battlefield. The same cannot be said for Goku, at least after Gohan was born. I hear that Super touches Goku's flaws, which is a main reason I'm watching it. But it is slow going when idgaf about Goku, who is interesting in theory but flat in practice. And Freeza is boring. He's only good for campy henchmen, which has been reduced. I'll take Beerus, he was funny. And the food porn.
am i insane or are jackie/eric very dan/blair coded?
Haha funny thing, I was actually just now thinking of making Dair Jeric parallels!
Not at all and if so, we're both insane lol.
Jackie is obviously the 70s Blair (queen bees with hearts of gold, daddy's girls, stuck in toxic relationships for most of their runs (Kelso/Chuck), and Eric is just so Dan coded with the love of dolls, their 'geekyness', and being smooth as hell despite coming off as dorky.
Not to mention the fact that Eric/Donna and give Dan/Serena in them being the main couples and how Eric and Dan constantly uplift/worship Donna and Serena. While Jackie and Blair, who are best friends with both girls, just do not have it when it comes to Eric and Dan haha.
Plus Eric being there for Jackie when she thinks she's pregnant with Kelso's baby is giving Dan advising Blair to be honest with Chuck in Pret A Poor J.
Both ships had a lot of potential but the writers ended up going for the toxic ships that clearly don't work (Chair/Jelso) and the ships that have clearly ran their course despite GG/T7S trying to say otherwise (Derena/Formciotti).
I'm grateful that at least the GG writers went for Dair, whereas the T7S writers dragged on those other two ships (technically counting Jelso since ended up together in end). Sticking Jackie with two fuckboys (Fez, then Kelso again), and then keeping Eric and Donna, because God forbid Eric be with anyone else. Let's stick him in a relationship which fucks up his self esteem and only benefits Donna!

so julian @wanime and i have been talking about draconium and um well, this got kinda long:
what we know (taken from this wiki page)
both humans and dragons have draconium in their bones
dragons have a higher and purer concentration (hence why they can generate mag energy)
each colour corresponds to a different energy frequency
humans can channel this if itâs pure enough
humans have a primary draconium influence as well as one or more secondaries
all dragons used to be gold until evolution and selective breeding changed that
speculation time:
ok so im not sure if the creators really put a lot of thought into assigning secondaries but im gonna try and apply some sort of inheritance logic to the penn family. bear with me
connerâs primary is blue (ignore the brown, it seems to be a mistake and his dragon was blue before he transformed it into gold) which he passed down to lance whose primary is also blue.Â
lance doesnât seem to have inherited any of his secondaries however
now artha i think is a special case
gold draconium is super rare and beau is the only known dragon to have it and also none of the other humans aside from conner even have it as a secondary
ALSO in Episode 0: The Alchemist, which iâm counting as canon, an arc of gold draconium from beauâs egg connected with a heavily pregnant fira penn, causing her to go into labour and have artha
this is probably why his primary is gold, because ~destiny~ etc
he also has a green secondary which he wouldâve inherited off conner
aside from that green secondary, none of the penn boys share secondaries with conner, leaving fira to have either white (note that both of them have it), red, light green and orange as her primary and the rest as secondaries... which, now that i think about it, could actually work.
onto word and moordryd now:
obviously both have black as a main influence, and moordryd seems to have also inherited his fatherâs red and purple secondaries and gotten the turquoise from zulay
on another note, not really related to draconium, but i think moordrydâs height is only 5â˛10âł as heâs shorter than word and is a similar height to parm and only a bit (not over a foot) taller than artha. jsyk.
i canât really say much about parm and kitt seeing as we donât know their family (although interesting to note that artha has both their main influences as secondaries. idk what to conclude from that but there you go) but anyway hereâs some fun facts about purple draconium:Â
it has an emphasis on teamwork and stealth and
People who fall under the primary influence of this colour tend to be exceptional team workers and extremely loyal to those they consider friends and family.Â
some final questions that will probably never get answered:
what and how much influence do secondaries have?
what are the properties/characteristics of the rest of the colours?
did humans all start off with gold draconium in their bones, same as the dragons?
also im assuming that they both have draconium bones that humans and dragons have a common ancestor which is a given seeing evolution anyway but yeah what was this common ancestor like?Â
tbh i just wanna know timescales and history about all this stuff
do dragons have secondaries? (they probably do since âone of the show's creators has hinted that he will fall into a different colour house thanks to his ability to take on the form of any of the other colours, as well as Beau's parents having some influence over his draconium as well.â [x] but to a lesser extent to humans as theirs is more âpureâ)
EDIT: read the Q&A again and yes, dragons do have secondaries and beauâs parents have red, blue, white (Cephyiss) and green, black + others (Oryon)
Beau himself was originally blue, red, black and some white before becoming gold.
does being a booster change your draconium levels? e.g. is arthaâs primary a higher percentage than most, will parmâs primary change as he becomes the power booster etc?
Q&A confirms again:Â Some humans, Artha for example, and Moordryd are just born with more tendencies to attract and use draconium. For example some people are iron deficient or get rashes from certain metals. The key here is that people can change in Dragon City, meaning their sensitivities can change, their draconium affinities can evolve, but it is the mixture of all colors, energies and draconium that creates the most power and balance, even folks like Connor and Word. Because Draconium is an energy like magnetism, getting better or more aware of it, attracts more to you, so that unlike Star Wars, EVERYBODY in Dragon Booster can learn the power and fully RELEASE YOUR DRAGON!
(Star Wars reference + cheesiness. i love it)
is there a hierarchy of power given that each colour represents a different frequency? like, we know the 5 main ones are âmore importantâ than the rest of the 13 colours but what are the differences between each one individually?
are the 8 other colours just mixtures of the 5 main colours of power?
how does this influence the type and level of gear that a dragon can mag?
is gold just a combo of all of them, hence why the other colours were able to occur during evolution and also why beau has control over all the other dragons?
this could be the case as the only reason conner was finally successful in hatching beau was through a combination of the red, green and blue bonemarks, as well as the blast of black draconium that word gave the egg during the pilot
